Add this: some f**king music in the background.
1337pinoFeb 9, 2011
Only if there are controls at the top of the page for it. I still have horror flashbacks to the 90s when everyone and their mother put music on a webpage with no way to mute/control it. D:
harrypowersFeb 9, 2011
But having Kid Rock shouting, "Now I'm f**kin' bunnies gettin' f**kin' Matchbox 20 money," let people my free web page skillz were |337.
ultrasparcFeb 9, 2011
I swear Chinese food sites are the worst!
Closed AccountFeb 8, 2011
hahaha. oatmeal has been killing it lately with their comics'
spot on!
redassassin7Feb 9, 2011
*their??
Just how many Oatmealz do you presume there are?
biglouFeb 9, 2011
He is referring to the Oatmeal as a company, not as a single person.
sloppyjoes7Feb 9, 2011
So there are many Oatmeal companies?
oatmealFeb 9, 2011Submitter
There's me and then there's those filthy quaker sonsabitches
randomgorillaFeb 10, 2011
Be careful, I hear their cartel has agents in every city. You could wake up in hot water next to some raisins and brown sugar!
elysiangoldFeb 10, 2011
f**kin' quakers
biglouFeb 10, 2011
Hey, they make some good s**t! Kinda like you.
bosskeyFeb 10, 2011
better keep an eye out for vengeful cereal killlers
daimposterFeb 12, 2011
oatmeal: that was the funniest comment I've read in sometime. You're website and your comments on digg brighten my day up.
gdj11Feb 9, 2011
there was nothing grammatically wrong with what he said. now shut up because you're making a fool out of yourself.... except for the apostrophe at the end of "comics"Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
redassassin7Feb 9, 2011
I wasn't going to say anything, but this display of ignorance forced me.
Yes, there are grammatical fallacies here. Either there are multiple oatmeals that contribute (there aren't) under the name oatmeal (it's actually "The Oatmeal", further proving singularity) and the apostrophe after comics is unnecessary (because the comics are not possessing anything), or the poster is using the plural "their" to refer to the singular entity of The Oatmeal (which is often used in colloquial speech, and definitely grammatically wrong) instead of a singular form such as "him. Both are wrong, and so are you.
Intelligence > trolling
noctechFeb 10, 2011
Thank you for your incredible display of mastery over the english language; you sir are an ass.
bosskeyFeb 10, 2011
Has anyone ever eaten just one little oatmeal? What kind of a breakfast is that anyway?
sillyputty81Feb 9, 2011
No Wonder! Check directly underneath the comic:
Inspired by this spectacular comic from XKCD.

Oatmeal is the best XKCD ever ;)
shadowmanjackFeb 8, 2011
Digg this comment if you got the Zombo.com reference.
kaegroFeb 9, 2011
http://zombo.com/
ekulaFeb 9, 2011
Okay I waited at least 10 seconds to wait for the flash object (that I presumed would eventually appear) to load before clicking away. Is Zombo a traveling circus?
kaegroFeb 9, 2011
Obviously, and much, much more. You can do anything on Zombocom.
THIS IS ZOMBOCOM WELCOME.
oatmealFeb 9, 2011Submitter
clearly you have limits ... to yourself
ekulaFeb 26, 2011
Ahhh, my computer was muted ;)
praneethreddyFeb 9, 2011
And for those who didn't , could you please tell us!
I did goto the website , and all I got was that irritating backgroud music telling me that I'm limiting myself!
ghostrunner1Feb 9, 2011
You're on the right track with your comment... read the last line of the restaurant Owners blurb.
odibilFeb 9, 2011
Where do you think you are? YouTube?
Okay, I'll play along...
Looks like 2 people didn't get the reference.
1moretimeFeb 9, 2011
And...horrible stock photography
rgb86Feb 9, 2011
Hell, if you even get what he listed, I'd call that a step forward. Most websites for private restaurants I've seen look like they were designed in 1996.
dirtyfriesFeb 9, 2011
YES
It's really amazing when they have NONE of the requisite pieces of info, even buried. I recently moved and have been to a lot of local restaurant sites lately, they're all like this.
turnkeywFeb 9, 2011
Big fan of this.. restaurant owners all too often forget why we're at their site in the first place. Design is important, but don't make your audience work for it! I agree with mmpraveen - let's add some really loud music to the mix!
jordan314Feb 9, 2011
+plaintext phone number so I can click to call them on my phone.
So many are in flash or images!
monkeyrunFeb 9, 2011
Thought everybody love flash....
biglouFeb 9, 2011
Flash is not a platform for web development. It should only be used as web supplement.
biglouFeb 10, 2011
I don't quite know why I am getting dugg down. It's a true statement. If you're still developing full sites in flash, you may as well be building sliced templates in Photoshop or using style sheetless tables.
nedzeveFeb 9, 2011
This is why I use Yelp instead.
mcpeepants9191Feb 9, 2011
The font thing is sooo true
biglouFeb 9, 2011
All restaurants and spas use Papyrus.
ShootTheRunnerFeb 9, 2011
Ahhhhhhhh too good.
hackiewackieFeb 9, 2011
I tried very very hard (believe me) to find this funny. This wasn't Oatmeal standard.
kaegroFeb 9, 2011
You're not Oatmeal standard.
hackiewackieFeb 9, 2011
I'm glad =)
jrackowFeb 9, 2011
I think sometimes it's more about the "Hey, don't you feel this way, too?" sort of joy. I agreed that it wasn't LOL funny. I'm finding the formula of picking an outrageous adjective and random animal not that funny, though. But I do like the Oatmeal.
zerocool82Feb 9, 2011
Love this post. So true about restaurants. It's not that hard to make one with this info.
afinFeb 9, 2011
Also most the are stupid flash animations that are annoying and dont load on my phone
janetfruminFeb 9, 2011
What will play role of spam in restaurant?
enderwigginFeb 9, 2011
I'll have your spam. I love it.
tunercircleFeb 9, 2011
Yeah, those restaurants should do it like http://goorme.com/TheCharcoalGI -- menus with pictures are totally appetizing.
harrypowersFeb 9, 2011
Yup. Right up front that page starts with, "FREE CAKE on Valentine's Day!" That reads like news I can use.
varner13Feb 9, 2011
Don't forget prices on the menu. I always hate seeing the choices, but no prices!
biglouFeb 9, 2011
No prices = yeah, that's gonna be expensive.
davidg11Feb 9, 2011
Market Price. I hate "Market Price". f**k you "Market Price"
I also hate it at the restaurant. I'm not asking my server what the price is of something, so you've basically just eliminated that item on the menu for me.
seroevoFeb 9, 2011
I don't like when they announce the specials. Put it as a sheet in the menu or on a board or something because 99% of the time, no one at the table is ordering the special.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
biglouFeb 9, 2011
I've found with my lunch group at work, that someone always orders the special.
seroevoFeb 9, 2011
For the literate crowd, let them read it in the menu. There is no need for the server to recite them.
If someone isn't capable of determining what they want on their own, I couldn't care less about them.
biglouFeb 9, 2011
Many specials are off menu.
varner13Feb 9, 2011
I'll order the special when the company/client is paying for it, haha.
Don't judge me
Closed AccountFeb 10, 2011
true but those change so much. don't blame em honestly
ieatskunkFeb 9, 2011
I agree, f**k Flash sites.
vagariFeb 9, 2011
A new one I saw a while ago was an almost usable web site... With uncompressed images. Every single photo was full res, and multiple megabytes. For a minute I thought I was in 1996, with dial-up.
mhuntFeb 9, 2011
That probably WAS the best xkcd ever (the inspiration for this cartoon, at the very bottom).
socialmediajoshFeb 9, 2011
Awesome! Spot on!
gdj11Feb 9, 2011
Papyrus is the single most overused font in America.
donkeybonggggFeb 9, 2011
HURRRRR!
ryanwbFeb 9, 2011
I hate it when they don't add the prices to the on-line menu. Most places do now-a-days, but sometimes you go to a place that looks like it's reasonably priced but come to find they sell $20.00 burgers.
jamesharrisFeb 9, 2011
So true. Also, most restaurants don't have websites at all. Not sure which is worse.
upnadamFeb 9, 2011
It always pisses me off when a website for any type of store or restaurant doesn't have their hours of operation. I'd say at least 60% of the time it's nowhere to be found and when it is there it's not on the front page or anywhere remotely visible.
negativeoneFeb 10, 2011
I agree for the most part. Restaurant websites are some of the most frustrating, in the case that the establishment even bothers to put up a site.
However, all this Apple-born Flash hate is really irritating. Fact doesn't even matter to some people anymore. For as long as I've been working with Flash, copying text has very much been a possibility. Text fields in Flash have a property called 'selectable'. For certain types of text fields, it's automatically set to true. For one of those types, it's not, but if the developer can't figure that out, they are cripplingly amateur.
tl;dr - Don't blame the technology for the s**tty programmers who misuse it.
Spot-on with Papyrus font though. It's impeccably consistent, wherever you go.
centraltransFeb 10, 2011
maybe you should forward this to some restaurants
graehFeb 10, 2011
You can copy and paste in flash - youve been able to for quite some time, and its even far more useable these days, as much so as html.
Of course - that's the whole issue isn't it.
Flash is capable of all manner of truly amazing, useful, beautiful and accessible things.
People who make flash content - are capable of s**tting their pants and calling out "DADDDY, I DID BAM BAM" in the office.
With great power, comes great power to show just how f**king talentless you are. In a more restrictive medium, your utter f**kwits**tballsness is also restricted.
So yes - I can't stress this enough. Do not blame flash. Flash is incredibly powerful and allows you to do incredible things. But to do that it provides you the same sort of flexibility you get with writing an app, or a regular computer program. The power to show just how s**t you are. s**t flash is a sign of a s**t person. Not that flash is s**t,. And people who say flash is s**t - well - they had better whinge about how so many computer programs and apps are s**t, too.
You could do a brilliant restaurant rich app for mobile, and you could in flash.
But all you get is bulls**t mid 90s brochure wear that just sucks f**k to use,.
negativeoneFeb 10, 2011
I assume it was you who dugg my comment, then :P
graehFeb 10, 2011
Heh - you know, you just made me realise. When V4 came, and the comments just... died... and posting felt pointless, I guess I stopped digging up / down comments. It just didn't matter, because it was just.. trailing off to an ellipsis is really all I can describe the feeling as.
I haven't been digging up/down since.
But now - now it's actually not pointless, now - there's comments sections on articles, now there's people here with whom to weild your vote for or against!
And I'll start doing it - from this moment. !
(sorry you missed out, make a new post, and I'll use my vote for you!
TO DIGG YOU THE f**k DOWN - BECAUSE I CAN, AND PEOPLE CARE! UUUAHHAAH
lilawidyawatiFeb 13, 2011
free meal
mutovkinFeb 19, 2011
This one is so true. Most restaurants have such idiotic websites with information that is hard to find. What's worse none have mobile version or version that loads in reasonable time over 3G.
shophdeFeb 21, 2011
Haha, I can completely relate to that frustration.
shophdeFeb 21, 2011
Haha, I can completely relate to that frustration.
afreelandFeb 26, 2011
Tried to go to zombo.com from my iPhone, since it wouldn't load I am guessing it's flash...point made oatmeal lol
boydeanFeb 27, 2011
The biggest thing for me is keep the hours of operation clearly visible on every page.
