Someone got a publicist.
dirtyfriesJun 15, 2011
Liz Lemon told him what to say.
confuciussayJun 15, 2011
Calm down people!, its stand up comedy!. Eddie Murphy had me cracking with all his gay jokes about Mr T in delirious & gay police in Raw. (wheew! wheew!, pullova, now spread it! ). Tracy was just cracking jokes on the stage and that's where it should have stayed. I think people are are pulling everything out of context here..
touchy610Jun 15, 2011
He said he would stab his own son for not "speaking like a man". Immediately before he said that, he mocked a feminine or flamboyant style of speaking, making his meaning very clear.
There's not many ways to take that out of context.
aahpandasrunJun 15, 2011
Yes there is, it was a joke on stage at a comedy club. It wasn't a statement of belief. People make up s**t to be funny sometimes.
touchy610Jun 15, 2011
I can't recall the last time I've heard of hypothetically stabbing one's offspring being funny. Or that homosexuals dealing with "bullying" is funny, either.
My point is, out of the many, many points he could've made a laugh out of, why that one? What did he find funny about those statements whatsoever? Comedians generally joke about points that they find amusing. What about the plight of gay people is funny to him?
kingpJun 15, 2011
Because Tracy Morgan is notorious for carefully plotting every word he says. Have you EVER seen the man interview? The character he plays on 30 Rock is the same one he plays in real life. Which is a crazy man.
I personally don't believe he was doing anything other than his "from the hip" style of standup. The dude doesn't think before he speaks, however you take it as you like.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
touchy610Jun 15, 2011
Well, of course he shouldn't lose his entire career over this. That's my personal belief.
But, as a person, I think this should (and has, probably) cause many people to lose any respect for him, and rightfully so. Most, to all, comedians write at least the premise of their jokes up beforehand. Therefore, if this is just a "slip" (and a f**king long slip, at that), it kind of reveals that he was either trying to garner more attention, or he actually feels this way.
thorspowerJun 15, 2011
Could it possibly be he is scared that what he has said will cost him his job and many appearances in the future.
Some how like touchy is saying I have not seen many comedians go on a rant about if their child was gay how they would stab them to death.
Tracy Morgan f**ked up big time now he has to deal with this consequences. It is just that simple.
trdrstvJun 16, 2011
To be fair, Tracy Morgan is seldom funny regardless of topic, I'm not quite sure he "gets comedy" in general.
max1001Jun 15, 2011
You sure are touchy!
methdwman3Jun 15, 2011
From what read, the problem wasn't at all "gay jokes" but rather he seemed to take some time out of his humor routine to launch an anti-gay tirade. I'm pretty sure the folks who go to an adult comedy show expect crude and off color humor, but this was not the case.
vinchenzo28Jun 15, 2011
People forget what stand up comedy is, if you don't like his style then don't judge him. What he might have said was offensive, but in the context of this ya'll ignant.
direangelJun 15, 2011
Untrue, if you changed the subject matter of his rant from 'Gays' to 'Blacks' 'Christians' or 'Jews' it would be still be the same thing. 'I'd stab my son if he was attracted to a Jew'.
There are certain things you don't joke about unless you are uncivilized. Hate crimes, dead children, and pedophiles are a few that come to mind.
alanocuJun 15, 2011
I don't care if he supports gay marriage. You don't evolve from suggesting your gay son should be stabbed to death to sitting in the front row at Adam and Steve's wedding, in only two days.
leoxivJun 15, 2011
well put.
aahpandasrunJun 15, 2011
Do you understand context? It was a joke
neotechniJun 15, 2011
No it wasnt
grymusJun 15, 2011
Wow... what back-peddling.
As a comedian, there will be times that a joke will piss off people / Not be funny.
This is a given.
His back-peddling will do more damage to his career than the jokes.
Ever hear Carlin, Pryor, Bruce or any other high profile comic say "Opp's sorry"?
aahpandasrunJun 15, 2011
Yeah, but he was forced by the 30 rock people.
trdrstvJun 16, 2011
ya gotta pay the bills....
blean1Jun 15, 2011
It's called quite simply 'covering your ass'. Bit of innuendo there....
banderwockyJun 15, 2011
At this point in the PR game, shouldn't he be going to rehab or something? That's what all rich people do right?
sigmaman2Jun 15, 2011
Strange. I always though Tracy Morgan was in the closet.
ScarredAngelJun 15, 2011
For everyone calling him a bigot, and a homophobe, you all need to step back for a second and really read his comments.
Next you need to take YOUR life into account. Don't sit here and try to act like you have never done anything hurtful, or insensitive to another person and then, upon retrospect, felt bad about it. In fact, there is a good chance that many of you have effed over people, and not given a rats ass about them or how they felt.
This dude was in a standup, said something that he thought people would laugh at and think was funny...well he was wrong. Very wrong. I also *HIGHLY* doubt he was serious saying that he would stab his son for being gay, that's not homophobia - that's a sociopath. Should he be excused for saying what he said - no. But should he be immediately condemned and treated as some sort of social pariah - no.
Bottom line - EVERYONE says (or does) some stupid s**t. It's part of being human, and it happens. The difference lies in telling who those are that just say stupid s**t out of anger (like Alec Baldwin, Michael Richards...) and those that are truly racist pieces of sh*t (Mel Gibson). The latter shows that you can't hide who you are for long, and eventually the real you comes out.

Homophobia is a weakness of understanding
reverantJul 12, 2011
The term is a weakness of understanding of whoever coined the term "homophobia". I have yet to meet anyone that's afraid of homosexuality as the "phobia" would imply.
rabbitsinblackJun 15, 2011
I thought he was gay?
UnaBomberrrJun 15, 2011
sell-out
renorocJun 15, 2011
Glad the folks at 30 Rock leaned on him hard to rein in the homophobia. Bigots usually see the light when their paycheck is threatened.
nangi_budr00hJun 15, 2011
Only if he [Tracy Morgan] were a Jew or a RepubliKKKan, then gay-bashing would have been okay.
Gay people, please take a f**king joke.
mheykJun 16, 2011
f**k those f**king fagotts
miamifrostJun 16, 2011
The gay rights group is so gay!
Tracy Morgan does not owe anyone an apology. He was doing stand up comedy. If you want to be gay, that's "super" but don't try to take away freedom of speech because it hurts your feelings!
reverantJul 12, 2011
Now that's just gay Tracy! Own your standup act!
Nothing worse than a politically correct comic
mheykJun 16, 2011
Damn when did Tray turn bitch?
ImperatoreChicoJun 15, 2011
No Phobia is of anygood.
madmaniac85Jun 15, 2011
Homophobia is a sickness just as much as sex addiction. Celebrities need to stop using made up medical conditions as excuses for the fact that they're just douchebags.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Being a doucehbag is a sickness! /s
kristen84Jun 15, 2011
hes to funny to be mad at any way
breacher18Jun 15, 2011
As a gay married woman I haven't got a problem with comedy having a pop I was more commenting on genuine homophobia
breacher18Jun 16, 2011
Is it just America that seems to have a problem with gay people marrying. I'm so glad I'm from a country that is full of understanding an exceptance.
