Wow. What an assh**e.
renorocJun 12, 2011
Unfortunately, homophobia is rampant in the black community.
chadster1000Jun 12, 2011
Which Black community? I thought it was fairly rampant everywhere in the US....
sloppyjoes7Jun 12, 2011
Homophobia doesn't exist. There is no "phobia" of gay people.
boethiusJun 12, 2011
Well, unless you have a random fear of men re-decorating your house.
chadster1000Jun 13, 2011
Well any fear of homosexuality is irrational. Now if you want to get technical on exactly how scared you must be for it to be considered a phobia then....well I don't really care. One of my uncles and a friend of mine can't handle anything alluding to homosexuality and it's pathetic. They seem to think any gay guy is going to want to give them surprise buttsecks.
sloppyjoes7Jun 13, 2011
Revulsion and fear are not the same thing.
effyochickenJun 13, 2011
Hmm, it sounds to me like you need to do some reading sloppyjoes7..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phobia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homophobia
"The word homophobia first appeared in print in an article written for the May 23, 1969, edition of the American tabloid Screw, in which the word was used to refer to heterosexual men's fear that others might think they are gay.[9]"
chadster1000Jun 14, 2011
And yet, both fear and revulsion would be irrational in this case. Obviously any fear or revulsion is simply them not being secure in their own sexuality.
rgb86Jun 13, 2011
It is rampant across the US, but there definitely is an increased aversion to homosexuality within the black community. I believe it has something to do with an increased sense of machismo, wanting to seem "tough," and the stereotype homosexuality doesn't exactly exemplify manliness. This doesn't mean that it's any less prevalent, but it more frequently happens on the down low.
chadster1000Jun 13, 2011
I think there is confusion between "black community" and "impoverished community." Much of America's black community is impoverished, so I see where it might be easy to get mixed up. Obviously, if you grow up in a inner city poor community you get a poor education; and as a result have a lower capacity for critical thought. I have a feeling a poor "redneck" community or Mexican community would exhibit just as much intolerance towards homosexuality. When you have nothing else, a manly reputation becomes your most valuable possession.
rgb86Jun 13, 2011
Eh...there's definitely intolerance whether it's an inner city black community or a rural white community, but I'd argue the nature of the intolerance is different. With the rednecks, it would probably have a more religious slant, as opposed to not seeming very manly. Of course, the end result is roughly the same.
generalbulldogJun 13, 2011
I'm reminded of the late Bernie Mac's Kings of Comedy bit about his 4 year old nephew and milk & cookies.
murrayc1968Jun 12, 2011
What is it with black celebrities going on anti-gay rants these days (Tracy Morgan, two NBA players, dude from "Grey's Anatomy")?
After the whole Micheal "Cosmo Kramer" Richards fiasco, you'd think they would know better.
woollymittensJun 12, 2011
Apparently bigotry is difficult to keep hiding for very long. It only takes one moment of weakness to turn into a ranting maniac, it seems.
andy2700Jun 12, 2011
Personally, I would rather hear the truth about how someone feels and know where they stand rather than have them hide behind a veneer of politeness. How better to know to steer clear of certain people, unless you give them enough rope to hang themselves? Can we really stand for freedom and censor hate speech at all times?
rgb86Jun 13, 2011
I haven't heard anyone say so far that he should be censored, but rather censured. Let him say it, but that leaves everyone else free to chastise him for such reprehensible feelings.
andy2700Jun 13, 2011
If there's freedom to like a certain group, there should be freedom to dislike a certain group too. Who's going to chastise the folks who don't like homophobes?
rgb86Jun 13, 2011
No one's saying he should be arrested for being a bigot. He's perfectly free to be the biggest assh**e in the world. But just because he has the right to say whatever foul things he wants doesn't mean that everyone else loses their right to say what they want about him.
Freedom of speech does NOT mean freedom from criticism.
andy2700Jun 13, 2011
Well, it seems like folks want a world where there are no anti-gay, anti-black, anti-white, or anti-whatever jokes, and I think such a world would be hard to come by, and probably very boring.
rgb86Jun 13, 2011
It would be nice if such a world could exist of its own accord. I think that our freedom of speech can go a bit too far in some cases (Westboro Baptist Church, for example), but in general, no one's saying it should be illegal to say stupid, bigoted things. But if you're going to take the position that they shouldn't be allowed to bring to light such statements, then you would be the one trying to censor people.
As for comedy in specific, there's nothing wrong with being a little un- (or anti-) politically correct, but there are still limits; there's a difference between being mildly offensive and making reprehensible statements (such as "I would stab my son to death").
Closed AccountJun 13, 2011
My favorite was how Chris Rock jumped to his defense tweeting "I don't want to live in a world where Tracy Morgan can't say foul inappropriate s**t."
Of course, 4 years ago, this very same Chris Rock was VERY outspoken calling for Michael Richards to be basically drummed out of show business.
So he wants a world where Michael Richards can't say foul, inappropriate s**t.
alanocuJun 12, 2011
I do believe in free speech, but I think if my father had ever "joked" about stabbing me for being gay, I'm not sure if I'd think it was that funny.
Tracy has the right to say whatever he wants to say, just like we have the right to say, "not acceptable."
pika2000Jun 12, 2011
So, why can't we just ignore him? The fact that this is turned into headlines and whatnot is the problem. Ignore him and don't give him any more publicity.
woollymittensJun 12, 2011
Why not show the world the purple faced mouth frothing bigotry in the USA?
Closed AccountJun 12, 2011
LOL What in hell are you talking about? Ignore him? Really? Saying s**t like that when you work in Hollywood is not free publicity - it is the equivalent of committing financial suicide. And it couldn't happen to a nicer guy BTW.
kupgnJun 12, 2011
I say call a bigot a bigot, and scare away his sponsors and public supporters. The world will forget him soon enough once that happens.
Closed AccountJun 12, 2011
I had no inkling Tracy Morgan was such a bigot until I heard about this. What do you mean, ignore him? I wouldn't know to ignore him had this not made headlines.
norman619Jun 12, 2011
how do you know he meant it and it wasn't just a move to generate some publicity for himself?
Closed AccountJun 12, 2011
Well, I suppose you have a point there - I mean, I read the article trying to find context for what he said, because I wouldn't want to jump to conclusions. Unfortunately, the apology didn't really clear anything up in that regard.
I'll put it this way - if Tracy Morgan were to come out and explain what he was trying to do, and it was a reasonable explanation, I'd be more than happy to give him a pass. On the other hand, I'm not really gonna lose much sleep worrying about whether I've wrongly accused him of being a bigot, given what he said.
Closed AccountJun 13, 2011
Because he is not as stupid as you are and knows that the saying "There is no such thing as bad publicity" is laughably bulls**t.
If you think this is going to help his career, you are no longer allowed to communicate with human begins again. You don't meet the minimum intelligence requirements.
norman619Jun 12, 2011
This is probably what Morgan wanted.
rgb86Jun 13, 2011
How does someone know when their behavior is unacceptable if no one is willing to call them out on it? And for the rest of us, how else would people know to avoid supporting this bigot if know one knows he's unworthy of receiving support (other than his already distasteful career)?
Closed AccountJun 13, 2011
Ask Michael Richards if he enjoyed all the "free publicity" he got 4 years ago.
Closed AccountJun 12, 2011
what a f**king idiot.
serenity101Jun 13, 2011
Good thing you win as a homophobic assh**e, Tracy Morgan, cuz as a comedian, you suck, and you've always sucked.
markcalvinoJun 12, 2011
Never liked this unfunny egomaniacal little douchebag, now I'm free to hate his guts.
NBC has to fire this assh**e, that's that.
andy2700Jun 12, 2011
The reality is that 20+ years ago - this story would not have been news at all.
lnussrallahJun 12, 2011
I try not to think that there are actually people out there that have this kind of hatred in their hearts and minds. Always thought he was really funny on 30 Rock. Now I'm just quite disappointed in him.
trythinking1stJun 12, 2011
Any father that would stab his son to death for any reason is not fit to be a father. Any man that would stab another to death for any reason other than to save his own life or the life of his loved ones or other innocents deserves justice.
chadster1000Jun 12, 2011
I never thought Morgan was very funny. He has a humorous demeanor and sounds funny when he talks but his jokes were never intelligent or edgy. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gay himself after those remarks.
ficklefidelityJun 13, 2011
Comedians often say things for comedy....
pcyopickJun 12, 2011
He should thank God for Tina Fey. She's the only reason he's not making minimum wage at McDs right now.
norman619Jun 12, 2011
Yeah right...
paultripJun 12, 2011
Sad person...... needs therapy
markcalvinoJun 12, 2011
No. More like "hateful biggot, needs to be stabbed to death"
emrys7Jun 13, 2011
I love him on 30 Rock... this makes me sad. I don't feel like I can be a fan anymore. How can someone that works with Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin have views like this? You think they'd set him straight.
greedonvrfiredJun 12, 2011
One man's backwards ass "opinion" delivered on stage while giving the audience exactly what they want (bats**t crazy Tracy Morgan "master" of insane hyperbole.) Ask him how much he hates the idea of a gay son and he says he would stab him to death. Ask him how much he loves cornbread and he says he would get it pregnant. I am fairly sure has never considered following through with either. His friends should help him to unlearn his prejudice. His fans should want to do the same.
biffbiffsonJun 12, 2011
you all suck. if a comedian talks about "terrorist" muslims, or greedy jews, fat american, killing babies, rape, etc. all for humor's sake, no one REALLY cares. they might not LIKE that comedian or joke, but they just shut up about it. this has gone too far...
tomgfromcanadaJun 13, 2011
with his c**k
andy2700Jun 13, 2011
@ RGB86 - I don't think it would be nice for such a world to exist- free of any jokes that offended any person. I think it would be as boring as hell. This doesn't need any more light brought to it- it's quite well publicized.
rgb86Jun 13, 2011
I think it's sad that you believe a world free of reprehensible behavior is the same thing as a world free of slightly off-color jokes. The two are on entirely different levels.
andy2700Jun 13, 2011
I think it's sad that you believe that those levels are not entirely subjective.
sjwill68Jun 13, 2011
hatred of gays is rampant in the black community because a lot of them go to jail and have gay sex but won't admit to it when they get out that they are gay. so they live in the downlow and secretly hate themselves about now another thing. usually those that hate gays a lot are really gay and insecure about their sexuality so they try to act macho but look like fools instead, we all know you all are faggitty fags so just admit it negro!
daltonzJun 12, 2011
Well...I don't know. Is he so wrong? He didn't say he'd stab his son to death if he were gay, he said he'd stab his son to death if he acted more like the media says a gay man should act (the high pitched, girly voice) instead of acting like himself. Really, it boils down to Tracy Morgan stabbing his son to death for being a poser instead of being himself. He believes gay people only act gay because the media shows gay men being effeminate and whatnot.
I think he misspoke. As far as I can tell, he doesn't believe people aren't born attracted to the same sex. He just doesn't think people act flamboyantly gay naturally, only from seeing people act flamboyantly gay on TV and whatnot. Except for lesbians, he really doesn't seem to think lesbians are real.
For the record, I don't believe this, I'm just trying to interpret from a non-biased, third party perspective.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

if this isn't a joke it should be.
mrbazJun 13, 2011
Shame on him.
StrongTacoJun 13, 2011
It wasn't Tracy Morgan, it was Brian Felllowes!
unattendedpancaJun 12, 2011
Isn't his job, being a comedian, about pushing boundaries and testing his audience?
Why is this an issue? Because it is about the gay community? This is nothing new in comedy, and it shouldn't be news.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
norman619Jun 12, 2011
Because wasn't being very PC.
andy2700Jun 12, 2011
Revealing one's true feelings trumps political correctness. How can you fight bigotry unless it makes itself known?
davidtcJun 12, 2011
Well his career is gay, perhaps he should start there with killing something.
rustyinarlenJun 12, 2011
I think he just did.
david4041Jun 13, 2011
FTA: ¶ Morgan then commented upon the recent wave of bullying-related suicides among LGBT youth, apparently stating that "the gays [need] to quit being p*****s and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying." He went on to describe LGBT identity as a behavior learned from "media and programming." ¶ Yet perhaps the most distressing remark concerned Morgan's own son. The comic allegedly told the audience that "if his son that was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man and not [Morgan mimicked a gay, high pitched voice] or he would pull out a knife and stab that little n***** to death."
IMO, I think the title is somewhat deceptive. Morgan didn't say he'd stab his kid if he was gay. He said he'd stab him if reacted to bullying like a pussy.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
