As much as I try not to be a music snob, when I find out someone I know likes Nickelback, I get very disappointed in them, like, "Damn, I thought you were cool."

I have a big problem with his number one pick, for one simple reason...
I worked roadcrew locally, and did backstage security for a show. A tour had come to town, y'see, and I can confirm:
The band was Garbage.
{...but they were decent live...}

How about all of them?
Telling someone their music sucks will never change their opinion about their music. It will never get them to see their music as something bad. Music is something you feel and love. And not everyone loves the same things.
The only thing you can do is show someone something different and see what they think about that. Expanding the horizon, not closing the shades.

Now we need the opposite list - indefensible "my music is good" comments. I'll start: "Its good because its different".

Oh great, some guy who thinks he's an expert on music.

Dred Zepellin puts on an incredible live show'
Covens "blood on the snow" (song,not album) and the video for it,were arguably,just as metal as Black Sabbath.
Vinyl is still better then most digital formats.
Iron Butterfly's "In the garden of eden" is still relevant
Some other random s**t...that had nothing to do with an interesting article.thanks)

"Oh great, some band no one's ever heard of."
The only time I go there is when some dips**t is talking crap about a band and says something like "Band X is so much better than blah blah blah blah."

I prefer to use the standard universal insult: "Your [music] is bad, and you should feel bad."
