Kids are growing up too fast these days
blinker1315Mar 11, 2011
As a parent, I agree with you on that point, Mac. However, I've had it up to here with busybodies sticking their noses into what is or isn't politically correct. When I was kid I played with toy soldiers all the time, not to mention cap guns; that would be frowned upon today. It's up to the parents. Period.
nickchopperMar 11, 2011
I'm sort of with you on this. Tinkerbell is actually a prime example. WTF is Disney selling sex to preschoolers? I don't want the government to step in, but what does it say about our society?
Closed AccountMar 12, 2011
I didn't know tinker bell was nailing preschoolers these days. disney's original animated movies weren't really intended exclusively for kids. peter pan is awesome and tinkerbell is hot. get over it. if you don't like it - don't let your kids watch it.
retralMar 12, 2011
I laugh when people get bent out of shape over things being exposed to their kids. Tons of parents allow their kids to watch violent movies/play violent games. Murdering people en masse is ok but natural things (nudity/sex) aren't?
enantiodromiaMar 12, 2011
Then as a parent you know you actually don't spend that much time with your kids, and that a good part of their day is with other kids.
andyd273Mar 14, 2011
They are growing up fast, but as a father, I blame the parents. If you don't think that something is good for your kids, don't let them do it. Grow a pair, tell them No, and if you have to cut the cord. It won't scar them. There are a handful of shows that we don't let our daughter watch because we don't like the content.
On a side note, it's not just stuff like this that is causing them to grow up fast. A lot of kids have to many activities going on, busy busy running around all the time, not learning to relax.
bobosmitorMar 11, 2011
She has been dressed like that for a long time. Parents should worry more about Brittney and Miley.
redstringMar 11, 2011
Seriously!
gracesiMar 12, 2011
Fight against them is too hard for parents.
mundusMar 12, 2011
I came here to say just that! Forgot Lady Gaga!
julie188Mar 11, 2011
If that's the kind of thing a parent is worried about, then that parent really needs to take some parenting classes.
enantiodromiaMar 12, 2011
That makes no sense at all but I assume enough 20 something parentless Diggers will agree.
I consider parenting advice from those without children to be about as accurate and useful as a woman telling me what it's like to have a penis.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
bluenoseboyMar 12, 2011
Perhaps, unless it's my penis they happen to have at the moment.
(I couldn't resist that one)
meccaydnaMar 12, 2011
hey, us parentless test tube babies are offended.
ninhMar 12, 2011
Are those the same parents dolling up their children for pageants?
enantiodromiaMar 12, 2011
Uhm, no... same parents who think the pageant parents are self absorbed douches.
ryanwbMar 12, 2011
Why ruin it for parents who understand and teach their children that it's just a fantasy world where pixies fly? Let's go further and see how Peter Pan was a pervert flying into little kid's rooms to wisk them away to a magical land where they would never grow up. That's kinda sick if you think about it.
We can't bubble wrap the world because when kids are finally forced into the real world away from mommy and daddy they get a rude awakening. Let parents parent their own kids

Get over it progressives. You're looking for stuff that isn't there.

Meenakshi Gigi Durham says Tinkerbell and her fairy friends are now part of a mass marketing effort -- with countless products -- targeting little girls.
And there's a danger in that, she says.
"The dolls certainly present a narrow, commercially defined version of femininity and sexuality that is neither progressive nor diverse," Durham tells ParentDish.
Durham, a journalism professor, focuses on media with an emphasis on gender, sexuality, race and youth cultures. She is the author of "The Lolita Effect," a 2008 book about how girls are forced to become too sexy too soon.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

do you really feel the need to politicize everything?
langfordMar 12, 2011
Her outfit is far more modest than it was in the book.

Funny how certain parents worry about s**t as pointless as this. But are fine with all the other f**ked up s**t that goes on in Disney movies.
miklkitMar 12, 2011
Someone from Utah judging morality? Ozzie and Harriet are dead.

I'm just laughing because I think people knee-jerked that it was those Christian conservatives upset about it.
Closed AccountMar 12, 2011
no. not really. christian conservatives worship walt disney.
cherwilcoMar 12, 2011
go to the top of the page and hit ctrl+f and start typing christian or conservative and see who's comment comes up with either of those matches.
in case you couldnt be bothered to do that the answer is YOU. there was no knee-jerk assumptions about politics or religion ANYWHERE in this thread until you started it. f**king lame quirk.
cyberdactylMar 12, 2011
Nothing to see here other than low life trash.
Move on.
Move on.
bluenoseboyMar 12, 2011
Gimee a break. What else is new? Unless we make cartoon characters completely androgynous, there will always be this issue.
Besides, I still get turned-on when I think of Jem and the Holograms, Disney's Maid Marion, Ariel, Smurfette, or Bambi's Mom.
(Don't worry, I'm talking that last one through with my shrink)

IDIOTS
jasper45Mar 12, 2011
Turn off that Disney FILTH!!
It's time for us to watch Kim Kardashian, like normal families.
azumothMar 12, 2011
This book "The Lolita Effect" is talking about girls are forced to become sexy too soon, and that recent cartoons are causing this effect to happen...
But hasn't Barbie been doing this for the last 50 years?
real15worldMar 12, 2011
yes you are right Kids are growing up too fast these days.......

Tinkerbell is a blonde white girl with an hourglass shape. What's the difference between this and all the other disney characters, aside for the hair color...?
cacopperfieldMar 12, 2011
the parents should be alert about what their kids is going to watch ,and the entertainer should be conscious about the message the send to influence our so-cite , specially the info for kids.

Their is alot worse on TV.

Parents should be less concerned about the skimpy outfits fairies wear, and more concerned about the fact that they're communists.
You may thing I'm just trolling, but I'm totally serious here. Go watch the first Tinkerbell movie if you don't believe me. As soon as she's born her line of work is chosen for her. Fate decides that she must become a "tinker", a hard working member of the proletariat. She is not compensated in any way for her services, and there is no semblance of a free market in the community. Throughout the movie she attempts her hand at more glamorous roles within the community. However, time and time again she fails despite her best efforts.
Instead of teaching children that they can do anything if they put their mind to it, it teaches them to suck it up and do what the government tells you. She learns that the community comes first, and should not bother pursuing her own dreams or interests.
Whether this was intentional or not, there's no escaping the poor messages that some of these movies teach. Tinkerbell is a communist.
letherialMar 12, 2011
Personally i like to teach my kid the difference between reality and TV....
This political ideology belief that everything belongs in some sort of -ism and -ist word is just utterly ignorant; i will not teach my son your ignorance.
ChristopherRandallMar 14, 2011
I'm not sure if your comment begs a reply, but....Seriously. You think Disney, a corporate blood whore, is advocating communism?
P.S. Disney, no offense (Even though you are a blood sucking parasite), I do love your parks, movies and cruises. Please come up with some more great stuff to suck away my $$$$$.
diggdugg35Mar 12, 2011
let me get this right...some parent popped a boner at the image of Tinkerbell and is now worried that kids might start whacking off to her? Last time I checked, Barbie had boobs and her shirt came off. (my dad told me)
America is an epic joke with no punch line
diggdugg35Mar 12, 2011
more worried about the parent that looked at her and said "she's sexy"
puppyadayMar 14, 2011
Yeah, Tinkerbell has NEVER had a realistic body. I think girls should have heroine characters who look more like them.
mbraynardMar 14, 2011
Hard to be a hero when your waistline exceeds your height.
DuffenpMar 14, 2011
This is so exaggerated. They do not need to be worried about such silly things. Children are starving.

ChristopherRandallMar 14, 2011
Tinkerbell is hot, so is Belle. Who cares? I don't think my 8 year old daughter is being poorly influenced by Disney, and if so then I should seriously reconsider my parenting practices. A child's self esteem doesn't come down to what they see, but how their greatest role models, their parents, act. Encourage your children to do their best. Cheer for them in their accomplishments and failures (which are important despite what the no score keeping new age lazy parents say). Love them with all your heart, and set boundaries to show that love. Be there for them, and they will amaze you. I bet you'll even be able to ignore Tink's outfit.
