The vast majority of these I would have had no clue what state they were from and any cultural influence, but for Ohio, I think The Pretenders before I would think Devo, mostly because of My City Was Gone.

Why specifically these guys? What about the White Stripes, they're from Michigan too, I don't understand the selection.

Some artists really carry where they're from with them, others not so much. This infographic puts too much emphasis on covering every state and then only selects one for each. It would be a lot more interesting to see it available by city/state/region (and even globally) while allowing for multiple artists. Kind of like a Google Earth with pop-ups that show the artists. There could be an overlay option that would allow for artists who also represented areas in albums even though they're not from the area... U2 -> Joshua Tree.
I would do this, but I never follow through on anything.

As weird as it sounds now; the US is on track to go down in history as being a hip hop/rap nation. Every genre has been done, and better, in other nations except this.
