FTA: " Asking your man to watch a chick flick is like asking Frankenstein’s monster to watch Frankenstein. The whole time, the monster is thinking 'Wait a second, I’m not that bad! I didn’t ask to be stitched together and lit up like a Vegas casino'"
So true....
endriagoSep 21, 2010
Inconceivable -- You keep using that word. I do not think it means, what you think it means...
diggeradoSep 21, 2010
Not true. The Time Traveler's Wife was actually a mind-bending sci-fi-type movie which also happened to be a love story chick-flick. Give it a try.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
bookantSep 21, 2010
But as tends to be the case . . . . the book is orders of magnitude better than the halfway-sucessful attempt to turn it into a movie.

If there are, we all be dead!
alphadoggsSep 21, 2010
Now you ruined it for me by telling me it's a romantic comedy and not what I thought it was (an Andre the Giant star vehicle)
werewolvesSep 21, 2010
And "50 First Dates". C'mon it's Adam Sandler! Good s**t.

Forget about romance and loyalty. It was damned funny:
"You seem a decent fellow; I'd hate to kill you."
"You seem a decent fellow; I'd hate to die."
davidg11Sep 21, 2010
Exactly...what's this loyalty bulls**t...it was a funny movie and guys like clever comedy...not the crap, unfunny comedy that is in most romantic movies.
Maaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwww-widge.
cuervoman914Sep 21, 2010
oh hey, the article's author just came out of the closet.
raykinstlSep 21, 2010
Interesting, because I actually can not stand this movie. Seriously, I don't get why people like it. It annoys me when it is on. I can sometimes enjoy a romantic comedy, if it has enough comedy, but for whatever reason, I can not stand this movie.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Simple explanation - you're dead inside. No biggie.

No... he's only mostly dead.

Romantic fiction - not very interesting and ladies, if you watch these types of movies and get your ideas of love from it... Well...
I would have to be seriously f**ked up to be able to sit through at least an hour and half of downright mental torture like this is.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

koushiroSep 21, 2010
Really, just a fantastic film. Wish it'd done better back in it's day.
mikepictorSep 21, 2010
My best friend hates the film. She is literally the only person I've ever met that doesn't love it. We're still friends, but there was a tense moment as I tried to process her obvious lack of good judgment in this respect.

I don't love it either, probably because it's so hyped up. overrated and all that. SORRY OKAY!!

Movie reminds me of my long dead Dad. He loved it, even had the soundtrack... which kinda sucked as I was a metalhead at the time and couldn't handle the romantic songs. Great f**ken movie.

Who cares about romantic, it is one darn funny movie! It has so many good laughs in it you would be hard pressed to count them! Oh, and some really good actors also!

thefirewireSep 21, 2010
It's more of a nostalgia factor.
I had a bunch of friend's who raved on about it and were shocked that I had never seen it growing up. They insisted I would love it, so naturally I took their word and honestly the movie wasn't as brilliant as they had hyped it up to be. It's not a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination but it's also not worth the price in gold that everyone claims it to be.
It's the same nostalgia I get when I watch something like The Neverending Story. I love that film to death but when I recommended it to some friends who hadn't seen it when they were younger they were left scratching their heads.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

All right...enough off this....The Princess Bride was NOT a Romantic movie first and foremost. It was ALWAYS expected to appeal to guys more than girls. The romance was a bonus to get WOMEN to like it too.
This is hte second site since the new Digg to call The Princess Bride a chick flick...thereby showing that blogs don't need ANY journalism or intelligence to exist. Or common sense for that matter.

I liked True Romance - that's a great movie...
tyler2tall147Sep 22, 2010
Thats Tarentino, so I'd say its not a chick flick
uberahsaanSep 22, 2010
Head jiggle!
genevieve333Sep 22, 2010
Wrong, the reason guys like it is not that complicated. It's f**king hilarious and it has Mel Brooks and Billy Crystal in it......that's why.
nebraskan1Sep 22, 2010
Umm... I don't think Mel Brooks had anything to do with the epic tale of romance, adventure, magic and true love that is the "Princess Bride." It is possible that you are confusing this movie with "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," which was a Mel Brooks movie that also had Cary Elwes (Westley in PB and Robinhood in RH).
teknic111Sep 22, 2010
After I read the title, I immediately thought of The Princess Bride.
deadbabyfloatSep 22, 2010
Braveheart is a romantic film right?
rachy88Sep 22, 2010
INCONCEIVABLE.
dukec007Sep 22, 2010
Called it from the title alone. btw - how did that guy go from this and Robin Hood Men in Tights to Saw?? Something went horribly awry...
Closed AccountSep 22, 2010
The presence of romantic themes does not make a film a chick-flick. Seriously, think of your ten favourite movies -- at least half of them will contain romance as a major plot element. Implying TPB is a romantic movie is dumb.
uglymikeSep 22, 2010
The only romantic movie I don't hate is The Wedding Singer. This article is full of s**t.
