South Park FTW!!!!! I really love South Park because of its heart and its intelligence. Family Guy has both, too, but it's too hard to root for Peter Griffin, whereas there's a way to identify with just about every character on South Park.
badqatDec 6, 2010
You can identify with Cartman?
screwkevinDec 7, 2010
I identify with Brian.
vigrocoDec 6, 2010
I would like to see Family Guy try to pull some of the Mohammad stuff South Park did.
salinatorDec 7, 2010
I'm still waiting for South Park to pull it off...
couragewulfDec 6, 2010
Family Guy tries to hard. Sometimes they do something hilarious but it's pretty hit or miss. South Park gets at least a chuckle every episode.
eeldarbDec 6, 2010
You could only think of five reasons?
bcard3088Dec 6, 2010
south park is way more edgy. family guy has really gone downhill over the past few years and relies too much on the flashback scenes. the family guy writers will never be able to top the gold they were turning out 10 years ago.
badqatDec 6, 2010
Well, there are only so many "idea balls" for the "writers" (manatees) of Family Guy to choose from.
knute5Dec 6, 2010
Oh God, shut up. They're both funny for different reasons. Save this jackass comparison for 2am in the dorm...
nofrickenwayDec 6, 2010
The reason South Park is better now is because FG is trying to use the SP model with thier show, which doesn't work.
valkyriesDec 7, 2010
Simpsons did it!
fxspec06Dec 6, 2010
I love both. I think each is unique but it's hard to say I prefer one over the other. They're both funny in their own ways. To say one is better is to discredit the other and both are genius so I say they both win.
brewbeauDec 6, 2010
Agreed. The article's "reasons" aren't very well thought out, since half of them could be said about the other show. For instance, you could make the argument that every South Park episode is the same, seeing how almost every episode has the boys thinking a certain way at the beginning. Then they see the opposing view and in the end decide that a happy medium is the best way and it changes them. Family Guy seems to make fun of everyone, too, with the difference being that they are sometimes able to get the people they make fun of to be on the show.(ie Rush Limbaugh)
And South Park's animation is so bad that it allows them to make shows so quickly that they can be topical, which is part of what makes South Park great.
Also, I just don't get the reasoning behind trying to compare two shows, by listing their weaknesses, that have almost identical viewing demographics.
qwerty1024Dec 6, 2010
South Park is funny in an intelligent kind of way.
Family Guy is funny in a retarded kind of way
hipmanDec 6, 2010
intelligent?.More like sadistic.
dannyhirtlerDec 6, 2010
Don't forget that Cartman also killed Scott Tenorman's parents and fed them to him as Chilli
davidtcDec 6, 2010
Carman killed his own dad and fed him to Scott Tenorman.
dannyhirtlerDec 7, 2010
And made him cry in front of Radiohead
evilgrouseDec 7, 2010
Thank you. I was gonna post that, but you've already done it. Huzzah!
agmlauncherDec 6, 2010
Both South Park and Family Guy engage in social and pop culture satire. South Park tends to reference social issues with entire episodes, while Family Guy references them in passing one-liners.
I think Family Guy's wit is sharper than South Parks (In my head is the episode where they're at a circus or something and the "half man, half clam" exhibit is just "Kim Katrall sitting indian style"... that was brilliant).
The main problem with Family guy is Seth McFarlane is too full of his own singing talent and he lets those long musical clips (Shipoopi, Road to Rhode Island etc) dominate too much of the episode. It's not funny at all, it's just showing off his own ability to sing.
Some of Family Guy's cultural references also go WAY over most people's heads and therefore aren't funny. South Park's delivery of its satire is more approachable and accessible. The humor is also darker, edgier and more sinister.
weirddemonDec 6, 2010
I hate articles like this. I love articles from Cracked and similar sites because they're meant to be funny, but they thrown in facts and sources. BS articles like this one give us crappy, bias opinions and nothing more.
defianceDec 6, 2010
This is the shoddiest list I have ever seen of reasons as to why South Park is better than Family Guy. Pure garbage.
blacklilyninjaDec 6, 2010
5 reasons why i dont care
they both are preachy
the both are barely funny anymore
they both are old cartoons
they both are paid for by big media
they both declined my application for employmentComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
couragewulfDec 6, 2010
To be fair, those are comedy outlets and you don't exactly seem like a barrel of laughs.
qwed88Dec 7, 2010
I wouldn't hire you either, you can't write.
qwed88Dec 6, 2010
I like them both. I don't feel the need to compare them, who does that?
hipmanDec 6, 2010
Someone looking for web hits by angering fan boys.
qwed88Dec 7, 2010
Not so much. Are you angry?
hurrayforschoolDec 6, 2010
Screw you guys... I'm going home.
tlreevesDec 6, 2010
Family Guy wins for one simple reason. Cartoons also include animation. South Park decided to take the cheap ugly way out. But let's all face it...King of the Hill was a much better show...period.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
paraswarmDec 6, 2010
You rate animated shows based on your perceived quality of the animation, and nothing else? Wow, you're an easy one to please. You must love the s**t out of everything Disney. l
Make sure you stay away from anime; it's all garbage by your standards.
tlreevesDec 8, 2010
Even the first Mickey Mouse animation kicks South Park butt. That is saying a lot considering "Mickey Mouse Operation" is used to describe an elementary understanding or operation of something. South Park animation doesn't even rise to a Mickey Mouse level. If you are doing an animated show how can you NOT rate the animation as at least 50% of the art?
paraswarmDec 10, 2010
You completely missed my point.
Most of us don't rate shows solely by their animation. For example, the dialogue is one facet of a show that one may enjoy. Comedic or dramatic value is important to many viewers. The relationships between characters, the development of characters, these are also examples of important parts of any show.
I'd watch a 10 frame-per-second show if it was an incredible show. By your standards, you would not. Animation quality is king; everything else be damned.
paraswarmDec 6, 2010
Family Guy vs South Park? Nobody with an IQ above 90 has ever asked such a stupid question.
Hey guys, which is a better band? The Beatles, or Nickelback? Herpderp.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Who the hell wants to read someone's crap arguments about which cartoon is better? Buried.
charlesp2009Dec 7, 2010
Is there an option to say that both Family Guy and South Park suck and that old Simpsons was the best animated show?
Shilo85Dec 7, 2010
OMG YOU KILLED MEG!!!! ............ No one cares.
waleedoDec 7, 2010
haha
sivaramDec 7, 2010
do we need a article to explain this ... South Park is better than anything ... PERIOD !!
meribianDec 7, 2010
If you liked Family Guy and stopped liking it because you saw an episode of South Park making fun of it, you're f**king stupid and you should work on forming your own opinions.
ijs209Dec 7, 2010
I have a feeling that South Park wont be around for much longer.
They've been around for almost 15 years. I remember them saying in an interview that they don't want to be like The Simpsons and be on tv for 20 years.
theplainvanillaDec 7, 2010
I loves me some SP but I still got room for dessert.
annreaganskyDec 7, 2010
Oh God, shut up. They're both funny for different reasons. Save this jackass comparison for 2am in the dorm.
HEAVYsanDec 7, 2010
love me some Family Guy but South Park is WAAAY better. Sorry!
aronnycDec 7, 2010
To be fair:
1. FG creators has decided not to take a shot at South Park and actually accepted their criticism.
2. FG has actually been moving away from that formula lately, for better for worse. I personally agree that some earlier episodes go overboard with the cutaways, and what they have now is good.
3. FG (and most other animated shows) take 9 months to animate, so talking about current events wouldn't be possible without precognition.
4. Who hasn't FG made fun of?
5. That's all a matter of opinion.
circlefusionDec 7, 2010
I enjoy both Family Guy and Southpark, though I definitely think Southpark is more original and interesting. There have been some really clever scenes in Family Guy's history, but they are few and far between.
Southpark has had some episodes that fell flat, but the great majority of them are really memorable. I look forward to their episodes more than any other cartoon show.
theanimal123Dec 7, 2010
there apples and oranges. the thing i can't take is a f**king cartoon called south park getting genuinely bitter about the success of another cartoon. they really just seem transparent. it's stupid. and southpark is hit and miss. they do whole episodes about terrence and phillip or base whole episodes around one joke or concept. and wow they figured out the formula of family guy. in family guy if a writer thinks of something funny they fit it in (to the f**king cartoon). IT"S A f**kING CARTOON. stfu.
spypiratesDec 7, 2010
I absolutely love both shows equally, so I feel compelled to stick up for Family Guy a bit.
The problem with "authors" who make lists like this is that they contradict themselves every damn time they write something.
For example, (and again, I love you Southpark) Southpark is THE MOST predictable show that has ever existed. More predictable than "Lucy! You got some 'splainin to do!" is the Southpark kids getting into a bunch of trouble that is a microcosm of a bigger societal event, and in the end gathering in front of a bunch of people and explaining what they learned.
Some aspects of Family Guy are predictable, but did you really expect Peter and Lois's vacation to involve stealing the sequel to the Passion of the Christ, getting run down by Mel Gibson James Bond style, and end the episode having sex on the top of Mt. Rushmore?
To the "author's" credit, I do like Cartman more than Stewie, and agree that Southpark is often more current and diverse in who it makes fun of.
bdsmith1981Dec 7, 2010
For the record, Family Guy has already won this battle. All you need to do is look at what is run in syndication. Family Guy beats South Park by about 5 to 1 by my count. I think it's partly due to the fact that FG episodes still make you laugh again and again. Does anyone seriously want to watch the "pee waterpark" episode of South Park again. Also, most South Park episodes make me chuckle but not really laugh. Family guy has my gut hurting sometimes. Anyway, my 2 cents
ammoman23Dec 7, 2010
This article sucks. The kid writing in lays out his opinion as though he were making observations about facts. Your 5 reasons are dumb. I like
Family Guy better, and even I could come up with better reasons than yours.
rod420Dec 8, 2010
Making fun of another show doesn't prove how much better you are. When they did that cartoon wars show it was really stupid and made no sense, South Park made fun of The Simpsons too on that episode. They also did it with the "Simpsons Did It" episode.
Dissing another show on your own show is just another form of bullying.
mooralistjamesDec 8, 2010
south park is jokes
vicerexciserDec 8, 2010
South Park has always been better, but now that Family Guy is just the Stewie and Brian show, it's not even close.
cathyparker90Dec 8, 2010
Family guy is better..
