BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The President of the HFPA should take his dentures back out and stay on the toilet.
hediggmeJan 17, 2011
Btw, I bet it was the Scientologists' agents who complained.
zirchxworldJan 18, 2011
religion ruins another non-religious event.
WWZJan 18, 2011
If Scientology were a religion you would be correct.
crumbakerJan 18, 2011
it's no more ridiculous than the rest of them
WWZJan 18, 2011
Scientology is an evil brain washing cult that worships money and power.
betteroffedJan 18, 2011
...or less.
takamalakJan 18, 2011
WWZ, and this differs from religion how?
WWZJan 18, 2011
takamlak, you must be a Scientologist.
neosporinJan 19, 2011
lol, you're daft
zirchxworldJan 18, 2011
This was just Ricky Gervais being Ricky Gervais. I think we can all agree that this is his typical routine. So knowing that, why did they offer him the job of giving the monologue? did they not know who they hired?
its just because Hollywood can't take a joke.
Closed AccountJan 18, 2011
I agree, this is just another example of what pampered little babies Hollywood is filled with.
cdhillJan 18, 2011
Agreed. As a celebrity/movie star, you get to make millions of dollars, travel all over the world, get the best service everywhere you go, and have people fawn over you whenever you enter a room. As a trade off, people get to skewer you, sometimes publicly, and people will laugh at you. Where can I sign up?
veterJan 19, 2011
Agreed. Gervais is always this cutting. Just listen to his stand up.
sportswithheartJan 19, 2011
Totally agree that this is typical Ricky Gervais. They should not be surprised about it all. They only themselves to blame.
mirzaadJan 22, 2011
Americans thought they could take a joke. Then they realised they couldln't.
cheatconfessionJan 17, 2011
I'm going to go and buy everything that Ricky Gervais has ever made. Lighten up everyone.
luv2luvJan 17, 2011
That's a shame because he was the only reason why I even watched
thoughtsonthisJan 17, 2011
I thought he was funny.
refin3dJan 18, 2011Submitter
He was/is hilarious. I love his bit about Noah's Ark in Out of England 2... so funny.
badqatJan 18, 2011
Hey, we've got groups that actively search for Noah's Ark. And many others that believe that s**t actually happened.
breadfredJan 18, 2011
That's good. Keep lookin'.
cheatconfessionJan 18, 2011
Are these people nuts?! It was one of the funniest things I have seen in a while. Everybody who was offended needs to f**k off because they make more money than god, get everything handed to them, and countless other perks that the average person can only dream of. If they can't take a joke that nobody will remember in a couple days anyway then they should just f**k off. Political correctness has gone to far and it's turning everyone into a bunch of pussies.
analogassassinJan 18, 2011
I'm sure he knew the repercussions. He's got bigger balls than all of Hollywood combined.
norman619Jan 18, 2011
It takes balls to make fun of stars? These awards and the groups that put them on are meaningless.
enantiodromiaJan 18, 2011
yeah, see, hiding behind your computer screen posting anonymous bulls**t comments isn't actually the same thing as doing an extremely high profile awards show where you know you are intentionally shooting yourself in the face for the sake of 'keeping it real'.
$100 says if you had to use your real name here on digg, you would just stop commenting altogether.
gmacneillJan 18, 2011
No, he'd keep posting like the 618 Normans before him
handofdevilJan 18, 2011
$101 says if he really did use his real name here on digg and did not stop commenting altogether then he would never get your $100.
enantiodromiaJan 18, 2011
i would paypal the $100 no problem if he closed his norman619 account and used his real name instead.
TheTruth00Jan 18, 2011
That's an expensive bet in order to prove a point over a post. Do you happen to be a celebrity with loads of disposable income?
enantiodromiaJan 19, 2011
$100 is expensive and requires celebrity level income?
I guess I forget how poor some people are, my bad.
Stay in school kids.
chrisvazquez1Jan 20, 2011
I use my real name and I keep it real. =D Want my paypal? ;)
enantiodromiaJan 22, 2011
chrisvazquez1: you have a few years of making really really dumb comments before i would consider it. norman is waaaay ahead of you.
TheTruth00: i've been lol'ing for days about the fact someone thinks a $100 bet is the realm of "rich celebrities". jesus christ...
chrisvazquez1Jan 22, 2011
Well a dumb comment is subjective to the beholder. ;)
hotleperJan 18, 2011
perhaps declaring himself an atheist at the end of the show helped seal the deal
shingoexJan 18, 2011
Yeah...it really ruined George Carlin's career.
neotechniJan 18, 2011
He too got banned from stuff.
diggsmckenzieJan 18, 2011
And was still one of the funniest, most well known comedians in the world. Funny that.

When said that last year, he was JOKING. He was not trying to get banned.
shingoexJan 18, 2011
Yeah...can't have anything funny or edgy. Gotta be boring and sanitized.
trdrstvJan 19, 2011
Oh s**t, you mean Leno's gonna host it now ?
pharmaphoxJan 18, 2011
I predict next year will be hosted by Jay Leno.
martoqJan 18, 2011
Ricky Gervais is offically my hero.
kentdiegoJan 18, 2011
Banned!,,,Until they need him again... Funny was how no one in the audience was laughing.
bonestampJan 18, 2011
Exactly. If they want the same ratings next year, they'll have him back... it's why they had him again this year.
drunkmonk2Jan 18, 2011
funny funny funny!
spreadtruthJan 18, 2011
Yet more proof that humor is in the eye of the beholder.
afterforever21Jan 19, 2011
and obv. you're blind
thudwhomperJan 18, 2011
He just won the award for Best speech or monologue at an awards show ever.
digghasnoethicsJan 18, 2011
Actually the HFPA are in difficult position. If they don't book him and the GG die a death in the ratings - the gravy train risks ending for them. However, if they do, then its a good bet that certain celebs won't turn up even if they will win. Nothing would hurt them more than no shows.
Their only real path is to book a high profile draw for the presenter role that's 'safe'. I wonder what's Sarah Palin's rate?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
bonestampJan 18, 2011
I bet more celebs would show up for Ricky Gervais than Sarah Palin.
mulcher2Jan 18, 2011
That I would agree with since 99% of celebs are left wing lunes so that was pretty much a waste of about .5k of internet data.
If you said, I bet more would show up for Keith Olberman than Ricky Gervais, than you would have a point worth arguing.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
mhuntJan 18, 2011
Do you somehow try to sork Sarah Palin into every conversation? You must be a thrill to be around. Seriously, you need to get a life.
mhuntJan 18, 2011
Make that "work".
norman619Jan 18, 2011
FTA:
"An anonymous member of HFPA tells Popeater, “Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure… For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain.”
You'd think this douchebags would have developed a thicker skin.
ajajadudeJan 18, 2011
"For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated."
That sounds like the bit about the awards being fixed was accurate.
bonestampJan 18, 2011
I don't think it's any secret that the members select the nominations.
ajajadudeJan 18, 2011
I'm referring to that lawsuit brought on by a former employee (I believe) who stated voting members would regularly receive perks/bribes for movie votes.
norman619Jan 18, 2011
I thought that was a given. Anyone who actually believes people get these awards based on merit is naive.
kinserJan 18, 2011
Which is why the globes mean nothing to anyone but the stars.
ultramagnus0001Jan 18, 2011
f**k yes there were bribes. You can tell by the reaction of the audience that they agree.
publiclurkerJan 18, 2011
You'd think that if they were actually annoyed that they'd get off their self important asses and complain in person instead of having their lackeys do it.
mike23wJan 18, 2011
gervais was awesome.
the uncomfortable and stilted laughter made it even funnier.
kristenchoi87Jan 18, 2011
omg wat happened to Ricky??
bonestampJan 18, 2011
I know. He gets funnier every time I see him.
ogletreeJan 18, 2011
He was funny. I was not a big fan of his until now. The HFPA hired a guy that said he was going to get banned. They are the morons.
zearthJan 18, 2011
I agree, ricky is funny and all his statement is worth a joke :D
WhezJulioJan 18, 2011
This guy is great. Sorry he hurt some feelings. Quit being a bunch o bitches!
crom99Jan 18, 2011
<3 Ricky. Bravo, sir.
kingofshadows92Jan 18, 2011
Thank God. There is a line between hilarious and down-right hurtful. They may be selfish, arrogant, rich bastards, but nothing constitutes those kind of insults. He should be able to find a way to be funny without targeting people.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
diggsmckenzieJan 18, 2011
You gotta be able to laugh at yourself man. These celebrities are stuck up assh**es.
imurphsJan 18, 2011
I have a new found respect for Ricky Gervais. I have always liked him, but now he has been promoted to one of my top stars. I'll laugh when the ratings drop next year because someone boring is hosting.
neotechniJan 18, 2011
Ha! He was a lot funnier than the fake banter the ceremonies usually have.
dedtargetJan 18, 2011
Well done indeed. Way to knock the "Hollywood elite" down a few knotches.
silentkessoJan 18, 2011
maaan , epic ! love ihm
vinetariJan 18, 2011
the last 10 years of Tim Allen movies were so much worse than anything Ricky said
ultramagnus0001Jan 18, 2011
Except Toy Story
vinetariJan 19, 2011
...which came out in 1995, 15 years ago....
ultramagnus0001Jan 19, 2011
3, happy?
prolikewhoaJan 18, 2011
Maybe they should get Jay Leno instead. Old farts.
prolikewhoaJan 18, 2011
Maybe they should get Jay Leno instead. Old farts.
ammoman23Jan 18, 2011
I guess they're banning next year's high ratings, too.
soupgfxJan 18, 2011
Ricky Garvis was classic... Too bad they don't have a sense of humor.
vilestruJan 18, 2011
Now that was some funny s**t... but can you imagine being in a room with so many douches?
useraccessJan 18, 2011
I'm sure you can smell the vinegar.
specimen7Jan 18, 2011
"“I don’t think I went far enough… Obviously not, because they invited me back." In what universe does that mean he is banned?f**k.
bookantJan 18, 2011
In the universe where the rest of us all read the article.
quadeJan 18, 2011
Burn!
seroevoJan 18, 2011
Who cares, it's not like this was his only gig. Sure, it's too bad we won't see him mock celebrities at their own wankfest, but then a significant portion of people won't bother watching.
I'm just surprised as many people saw it live as they did. It's like a super long episode of SNL - why bother staying up to watch it when you can just check out the best parts on youtube the next morning.
frankiethewafflJan 18, 2011
It should tell you something that laughs rose when he told the jokes, yet the complaints flow in from those same people. They are fake and should have jokes told about them. They have no backbone anyway.
Look good on TV but whine about it later. Go play house children. Let the adults talk!
eraptorJan 18, 2011
Ricky's roast was one of the most enjoyable TV experiences I've witnessed in a long time. The crowd reaction was priceless.
Now, if we could only book him as the main presenter at the State of the Union address, we could complete the circle. Since we can't, I would love to see Ricky roast both politicians and the media at the White House Correspondents dinner. There are more than a few egos in D.C. in need of a serious "beat down".
th3wh1terabb1tJan 19, 2011
Wow, I would love to see that. Good call, he could really put some of the politicians in their place.
pottsie2Jan 18, 2011
Please feel free to leave a comment at info@hfpa.org
Grow a set of balls Hollywood. The Tourist was abysmal. Charlies Sheen is a rampaging drunk. The whole Bruce Willis/Ashton Kutcher thing is like a long episode of punked and Scientology is a cult
lokcjawJan 18, 2011
Am I the only one that thinks that story was released just to get some water cooler talk going, and a little extra follow-up publicity for the awards show. I mean do we really think that management and PR don't vet the speeches before the show?
schnerpJan 18, 2011
The truth hurts hollywood.
sorinelo6Jan 18, 2011
he was funny.
tk1983Jan 18, 2011
This is exactly what they wanted, publicity. And if anything it was 1 or 2 extra-whiny celebs that spoke up about it. Or it was all of them... Hollywood is full of 'people' that expect to be coddled at all times. This isn't even newsworthy
misterfuriousJan 18, 2011
And yet they have no problem with Robert Downey Jr. talking about "giving it" to each of the Best Actress nominees (probably the first time that offering an award has been used as a metaphor for having sex). That speech was pre-prepared, so it was obviously approved by the HFPA.
cuishi14Jan 18, 2011
This dude is awesome.
An wow they censored "for Christ sake"
evamonkeyJan 18, 2011
It looked liked he said "For f**k's Sake"
gilgamesh23Jan 18, 2011
OMG BEST opening monologue EVER! and how the HELL did The Tourist get best picture?

quevJan 18, 2011
awe + some
kenafeinJan 18, 2011
Gervais is a genius, and informative. I never realized the Golden Globes were such a corrupt scam. I guess I never really cared enough about them to watch, let alone investigate (Gervais was the only reason to watch.). This certainly is a good racket for the 65 members of the HFPA. I hope Gervais ends up being so popular, that they beg him to come back, and he tells them to piss off.
guerreJan 19, 2011
No such thing as bad press
