I'm so looking forward to The Hobbit. I do hope Orlando (we're on a first name basis) is in it.
jboitnottDec 9, 2010
Uhm I called dibs on him first just so you know. :P
retroscifigeekDec 9, 2010
Sweet!
kaylayray783Dec 9, 2010
Someone else can't play Legolas so if he doesn't commi they better take him out of the script
elmuerte17Dec 10, 2010
He shouldn't be in the script to begin with... hate how screenwriters think they can "improve" stories adapted from books.

I have read the books several times and thoroughly enjoyed the movies that Peter has done thus far. The adaptation of the hobbit should not be a literal adaptation necessarily especially with all the other source material to use such as unfinished tales and the simmilarian to fill the void in other goings onwithin the middle earth universe. Peter Jacksons vision of the original was great not an exact replication of the book but a good adaptation non the less. How are you to say that Peter Jackson a lifetime Tolkien fan cannot implement certain creative licence within a different medium. I hope to god the book is not a literal adaptation I don't want to see the kids story necessarily that I read in the hobbit but would rather enjoy a more grown up fariytale
angrycat70Dec 10, 2010
Odd. I don't recall Galadriel or Legolas appearing in the Hobbit.
The only elves they encountered were in Mirkwood and they weren't too thrilled to see a platoon full of axe-wielding dwarfs marching across their forest.

aww f**k, let's just get the entire original cast to cameo in it, just for old times' sake!
Viggo can play... umm... Aragorn's dad
topwolfDec 10, 2010
i think you are taking the idea a bit far and exaggerating the merits of a legitimate point

@angrycat70 -- "The only elves they encountered were in Mirkwood..."
What about all the elves in Rivendell?
jareddennisDec 10, 2010
Makes me wonder who will play Thranduil.
rethreadDec 10, 2010
Samuel Jackson? :)
OK, maybe not that much tinkering.
warpfieldDec 10, 2010
Was he the one on the skateboard during the battle? If he can tone that down, I guess it's okay.

The Silmarillion puts events and people on the map, in general, and will probably be used as an improv guide to getting Legolas and Galadriel into the script. They'd best get the others. That said, The Hobbit was and always will be a standalone. An idea... That blossomed. I think the movie should do the same thing going backwards from the idea of the Lord of the Rings movie. Got the idea, allow it to blossom out in movieland - and The Hobbit.
I've seen the original Hobbit movie, in a classroom in High School, no less. I'd love to see the polished high tech blockbuster version of it, including the hot chick/guy. This is one movie that should be tinkered with and can be tinkered with safely.
Credentials: Read the entire series four times, it's in the trunk of my car right now - original edition, and read the Silmarillion (Not pleasant, but had to do it).
silentspyderDec 10, 2010
despite his effeminate look, Legolas was the man in the other movies.
breakspiritDec 10, 2010
I certainly don't remember Legolas in The Hobbit, but if they can make it make sense, I'm all for him appearing in the movie.
wingdomDec 10, 2010
I would like to quote the article here:
"...they’re first priority is to solidify Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Andy Serkis (Gollum) and Hugo Weaving (Elrond) whose characters are actually in the book."
volfie99Dec 10, 2010
The rumor going around, was that The Hobbit was going to be two movies: the first would be The Hobbit itself, and the second would be the events that happened between The Hobbit and the LOTR. For some reason.
willnevDec 10, 2010
Yes, I believe that's till the plan. I think they are going to include some elements from The Silmarillion as well.
ParentingCoachLisaDec 10, 2010
I'll wait for this movie mixed-up.
digghasnoethicsDec 10, 2010
Two things:
1) Can we have a cut of this that follows the books, no mucking about with two movies?
2) While they're filming this, can they finally film the Scouring of the Shire? Not only does that give them a reason to re-release the final version of the disks again, we can finally have a version that includes one of the most important parts of the books.
elmuerte17Dec 10, 2010
Ever since books started being made into movies, the rotation of the Earth has been powered by dead authors turning over in their graves
GrnDolphinLvnDec 10, 2010
Ok He wasn't in the book... Who playing Bilbo???
willnevDec 10, 2010
Martin Freeman. He was Tim in the British version of The Office. He was also in Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead (briefly), Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and. more recently, in Sherlock (which is great). I think he'll make a great Bilbo.

Orlando Bloom is really a nice actor. I am a fan of him.
willnevDec 10, 2010
After seeing what Jackson did with Lord of the Rings, I have complete faith that if he includes Legolas (and Galadriel for that matter) in these films, they will be great.
johnferringtonDec 10, 2010
i really look forward to this movie!
