I like how them playing cellos doesn't stop them from rocking the headbang.

I love these guys
startbasAug 14, 2011
i'm a big fan of their work for now, can't wait for more, they definitely know what they are doing
cranelakeAug 13, 2011
Wicked! I never knew cellos could rock like that.
netantAug 13, 2011
Pretty awesome performance. Odd though, they did cheat just a smidge. I'm pretty sure at minimum, there was some reverb applied to the output. I'm not sure about other effects, but there were points where I thought certain sounds could not have produced naturally by a cello. I would have been happier with no audio processing at all.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
frosty72Aug 14, 2011
There's definitely some distortion on this... which just makes it work that much better on a fracking rock song.
oldteaAug 14, 2011
First of all, they're electric cellos. How is this any different than distorting an electric guitar. As for reverb and other effects, there are few tracks in recent years that are completely untouched by processing. Since the big recording studios have started to shut down it's harder to record in a space that has natural reverb. Almost everything now is EQ'ed, compressed, and fed through a large variety of effects units that range from delay to things that can completely change the timbre of the sound.
netantAug 15, 2011
Wow, 7 buries. Did people dislike my statement that it was an "awesome performance" or that I DARED suggest that it was a non-acoustic musical performance?
You see, back in the day, musical instruments were not hooked up to amplifiers, and they could only produce the sounds that the performer could coax out of their instruments. Then in the 1960's, those acoustic instruments, primarily guitars, had the initial sounds radically changed using electronic devices. They are referred to as "effects" boxes.
Now understand that you can still be entertained by a song that does not have audio modification of the "sound". This type of musical performance is colloquially referred to as an "acoustic" performance. They will not sound anything like the "original" processed sound. It usually takes a talented performer to make an "acoustic" performance sound good, that was ORIGINALLY presented as a "heavily" processed sound.
There is NOTHING abnormally difficult about playing a guitar song on a cello (for a competent cello player). Its the same notes and timings. But to MAKE it sound "as good" as the heavily modified original, does take exceptional talent and usually, they will modify their playing to help "simulate" the original sound.
Now granted, because the cellos had no "bodies" (don't know the technical term for the enclosure), they would require some form of sound processing. But the sound is the same generated by the strings. The only sound processing the electric cello would need to do would be to take those miked strings, and run it through a sample of an acoustic cello (with enclosure). That would be duplicating an acoustic cello without actually having an acoustic cello. You can actually do the same thing to an electric guitar, to make it sound like an acoustic guitar.
What these guys did was have programmed presets (or a separate sound engineer) to make the cello sound different at certain points from an acoustic cello. I definitely detected this, and thus registered my disappointment. These guys were so good, they did not have to incorporate "effects" to sell the acoustic performance. But, as I said, I believe they cheated a little.
Yes, you can bury this post too, because it is a condescending FU to the buries. Kids who only listen to s**t produced in the past decade and a half have NO f**king clue to what real music is supposed to sound like. They've probably never even seen an MTV "unplugged".

Sam and Dean Winchester are at it again! Awesome cover but, IMO, it does not top their cover of Welcome to the Jungle.
alanocuAug 13, 2011
I think I like this instrumental version of the song better without the lyrics. There is no message behind the song. He just took a bunch of words that sounded catchy and threw them together. I loved Nirvana, but I think people give him too much credit sometimes. RIP, KurtComment is buried, click here to see the rest.

These guys may have the coolest parents in the world, no idea, but I bet when they started paying for cello lessons, they thought all they would hear is classical . . . not classics. ;-)
buryTHISAug 13, 2011
There is definitely meaning behind this song. You have no idea what you are talking about. And you must be retarded if you like a cello rendition of this song more than the real version.
PS- The more comments of yours that I read, the more I realize you are definitely my least favorite digger. Hate to break it to you buddy but you kinda suck. Big time.
JLF2035Aug 13, 2011
Actually at the time it was written, there wasn't much meaning behind the song. Though, now it does have alot of meaning to those of us who grew up listening to nirvana. So depending on how you look at it; it either does or doesn't have meaning.
Cobain has said, "The entire song is made up of contradictory ideas . . . It's just making fun of the thought of having a revolution. But it's a nice thought." Drummer Dave Grohl has stated he does not believe the song has any message, and said, "Just seeing Kurt write the lyrics to a song five minutes before he first sings them, you just kind of find it a little bit hard to believe that the song has a lot to say about something. You need syllables to fill up this space or you need something that rhymes."
And calling someone retarded simply because they like a lame cover over the original, is just plain silly. We all have different tastes.
JLF2035Aug 14, 2011
I think it's funny how you keep getting dug down, even though you're essentially correct about this song.
eschercubeAug 14, 2011
"It's unintelligible
I just can't get it through my skull
It's hard to bargle nawdle zouss
With all these marbles in my mouth"
