cinemablend.com— The brand new Tron: Legacy trailer which debuted at San Diego's Comic Con just moments ago is officially online and ready to de-rezz your mind.

Everything about this movie looks incredible. How can anyone not be excited about this movie? The de-aging process on Jeff Bridges is surprisingly successful. Usually that never works.
Thats one of the first things I noticed, and it's an amazing effect. The original was the first to use graphics in a movie, and the sequel looks to be revolutionizing things again with a 'synthetic actor' that looks real. The possibilities from that alone are very interesting.. find good voice talent and you could start making movies with actors long dead perhaps?
The latest Empire magazine has an interesting interview with Steven Spielberg, James Cameron and Robert Zemeckis where they talk about all the possibilities of this technology and one of the things that comes up is having an accurate version of a historical character on screen.
Also your comment about the voice talent is inaccurate. They aren't doing just voice-over and then having animators create the performance. The actors act everything and motion capture is used to capture not only the body movements but all the facial movements and expressions. The animators job is just to clean things up a bit, not to create the performance.
But I thought this was different. With ben button, you're right, the actor act everything and it's mo captured. But that's using a 3d model. I thought this was an effect applied to filming an actor, similar to X-men 3.
X-Men 3 had the de-aging process used extensively.
Terminator:Salvation had Arnold Schwarzenegger added as a completely digital character.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
i have no idea why you're being buried. i had the same thought too regarding xmen 3. it was cool then, and i'm sure it'll be cool now, but i don't know if its worth seeing the movie for
I'm sorry, but de-aged Patrick Stewart in X3 looked creepy as f**k, like a wax puppet. It was the worst effect in the movie, by far. They should have simply left him as a back-lit silhouette or something.
I am excited about this movie but not because of some de-aging process. It could very easily suck, do solely to writing. All the trailers for the matrix sequels looked amazing but the movies were, shall we say, sh!t. All I am saying is that special effects don't make a movie. And while the de-aging process and the plane, are impressive on the computer screen, I will reserver judgement until the final cut.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
Well if you enjoyed the writing from lost, a couple of the writers from that show (Horowitz, Kitsis) are credited for the screenplay of Tron Legacy. I believe the original writer and director also helped with the writing.
The director on the other hand, Kosinski, is known for superb art direction. and that's about it.
So the writing might be fine, but what we see could suck.
While I appreciate that they had to update the look, I kinda wish the leap forward in technology was not as far. It doesn't look as much like the old TRON as I want it to. As for the sound, I don't care about Daft Punk...I liked the minimal music in the first movie. The sound was deadened and felt totally flat and the music simple - suited it perfectly. I'm still excited for the movie though.
This shouldn't be spoilers because this is all on Disney's TRON Legacy website spread out all over the place, but here is what I've pieced together:
Kevin Flynn created a new utopian world from the mainframe servers he moved to the basement of his old arcade after he defeated the MCP in the first TRON movie. He created CLU 2.0 to manage the world.
The Abraxas virus, colored yellow, infects Kevin's world. The source of the virus isn't revealed yet, but it may be linked with the upheaval at ENCOM which eventually removed executive power from Alan Bradley who took over after Kevin disappeared in 1989. The virus infects CLU 2.0 who then destroys Kevin's world and rebuilds it into his distorted view of a perfect world where he controls everybody, turning those who follow him yellow as opposed to white, and any dissenters are sent to the game grid to die in gladiatorial computer game combat.
Kevin flees to a safehouse that is disconnected from his digital world. CLU 2.0 can't get in but Kevin can't get out. He is trapped there for 20 years real world time which translates to approximately 1,000 years digital world time. During this time Kevin fights a guerrilla war against CLU 2.0 but is forced to stay almost completely disconnected watching CLU 2.0 do terrible things without being able to do anything significant.
In 2010, Kevin manages to eventually send the phone number of his office in his old arcade out to Alan's old pager. Alan, who no longer has any leverage in the ENCOM company, tells Sam Flynn who then investigates the old arcade and finds the computer desk from the first TRON movie which he activates which in turn activates the digitizer laser behind him sending him into the digital world. Sam is captured by CLU 2.0's minions and brought before CLU 2.0 who Sam initially mistakes as his father but is corrected by CLU 2.0.
CLU 2.0 uses Sam in the games to force Kevin to connect his safehouse to the digital world allowing CLU 2.0 and his minions access, but this is somehow used by Kevin to his advantage. Kevin also sends Quorra and her digital samurai sword to slash her way to Sam and save Sam while visiting the End of the Line club with its eye candy during their run.
At the end, there will be big fight involving a digital jet plane version of light cycles at least. I'm hoping that they will have an interesting ending plot-wise, but Disney's tendency is wrap everything up nice and tidily at the end. However, there is good news in that the sequel is already in the works, so maybe they will leave something important hanging at the end. It should be an interesting ride either way just as, relatively, the first TRON movie was for its time.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
What? Disney hired a crew to digg down your astute spoilers that you pieced together from the s**t they released?
Listen, you want mystery? Stop giving away the story to every movie in the trailers! Inception seemed to know how to awe without telling you everything.
f**k michael bay, that bastard ruined transformers! This movie has a good shot at living up to the hype and not being just another cash whore from my childhood. sorry I'm calm again.
He's Bruce Boxleitner; he programmed Tron, ran a space station, overthrew an illegal government and defeated the Shadows. He can receive a f**king page if he dam well pleases.
The flashier the trailer, the more cliches I see (a romance interest... really?) the more worried I am that the film is going to be an effects-fest hung on a standard action template and little else. I'll wish for the best but I'm not getting my hopes up.
This could be awesome, or it could go all Speed Racer if they don't hold down the CG for the 2D audience. Plot and character are what I'm hoping for, and it's pleasing to see Boxleitner in a non SyFy turd as well. I want this movie to succeed so bad.
To everyone complaining about Tron 2.0 having some cliche elements... Tron wasn't a deep, hard hitting narrative either. It was a fun movie about being sucked in to a computer and being forced to play deathmatch games. Thats it. That was the entire premise. Try to enjoy something for once.
Do you realize most audiences waste the entire length of the movie looking for the WOW 3D effect shot rather than focusing their attention on the film itself? f**king distracting is what it is.
I'd say 3d was pretty ignorable in Avatar. After about 10 minutes I completely forgot I was even watching it in 3d.
How to Train Your Dragon though is a different story, I think it's the only movie I've seen that 3d was actually used correctly to enhance the story and cinema.
I don't give a damn about all of you 3D debaters... If there's any move that is meant to be seen in 3D, it's got to be Tron. I'm going to see this movie in 3D and it's going to be awesome.
Disney is doing a good job with this movie, they even consulted with Pixar to help with character development and script rewrites. So far it looks amaziing!
I haven't been this intrigued by an upcoming flick since the original Matrix movie. I hate being caught in the hype but that was unavoidable since i am a fan of the original movie. I am really looking forward to this movie. Please don't end up being s**t!
from wiki:
"Electronic music duo Daft Punk will be composing the film score. At the time of the 2009 Comic-Con, it was revealed they have composed 24 tracks for the film..."
I'm surprised at how relatively low-key Daft Punk's involvement is. I'm still telling friends about it who had no idea. Either way, I'm more excited about the soundtrack than the movie...

Well, every time I hear Tron I remember that fat bustard w/ mustache in Tron costume from youtube,
he ruined it for everyone!
At least the movie seems to be fun. ;D
I rarely go to movies but I will be taking off from work and seeing this the night it comes out. I can't believe how excited i am to see this flick. Of all the bulls**t they've remade, or tried to cash in on from my childhood, I honestly think this one is gonna hit the mark perfectly. December can't get here fast enough, and I hate christmas.
Me, but I already said that. Thanksgiving is way better, all you're expected to do is chill with friends and family, eat lots of good food, drink some beer, and then pass out. Christmas is to hectic.
Stop with the 3D movies already...How many people here actually like 3D? Personally I get sick while watching them and have a hard time seeing in 3D. Just wish Hollywood would stop with the thought that every movie needs to be in 3D. Stop shoving this 3D bulls**t down all of our throats!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
I'm sure you can still watch it in 2D, and you'll probably save a couple of bucks. If everyone hates 3D as much as you apparently do, then 3D won't make enough money, and they'll stop doing it. If people like it, they'll keep doing it, but you'll probably always be able to see the 2D version.
Agreed, my wife and I took our son to Toy Story 3 in 2d, the only theater in town that was in 2d the rest were 3d. But I hope it doesn't become the norm. Overall I think its a great little gimmick but it should stay that way and not a mainstream feature.
Yes jackass, I have a hard time getting around.....f**king looser! I don't have a problem in real life with day to day depth perception or 3D but my eyes can't adjust to seeing a movie shot in 2D with 3D effects added. Its actually very common and about 12% of the population has this problem, I am part of that 12%. See this article here and next time do some research before typing with your big fat fingers or opening your mouth!
By the way did you know that no one can see in 3D....its all an optical illusion and your brain had been trained to see depth using perception, hence 3D.
I was just about to watch this trailer but I decided to hold out and not watch anything regarding TRON Legacy so I will not spoil anything in regards to the movie. Most of the cool CGI scenes in Inception were in the trailer and I lost all enjoyment from that aspect of the movie.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
One thing I worry about is that no new effects ground will be broken. The spirit of the original was that there simply wasn't anything like it at the time -- I remember leaving the theatre blinking and shaking my head and asking myself, What the hell did I just see? That was absolutely like nothing that came before. Well, that sure took it to the next level. The danger now is that, Legacy will be an okay flick but will not have anything truly mind-blowing/original.
Tron was the kind of movie that you had to stop and pick up the pieces of your mind because it had been totally blown wide open. Hopefully Legacy will be too. Disney certainly has the resources.
TRON inspired my interest in computers when I was a kid, and shaped my future. I am very psyched for the next installment... this time I get to take my daughter to see it :)

This is going to rock.
jtotheoeJul 23, 2010

*sniff* i'll never let go, jack... i'll never let go... *SOB*
davenp0rtJul 23, 2010
What the f**k, dude, grow a penis and never mention Celine Dion again.
jtotheoeJul 23, 2010
NEAAAAAR FAAAAAR WHEREEEEEEEEVERRRRR YOU ARREEEE..... :'(
drcyclopsJul 23, 2010
That was kind of a weird thing to admit to, but you admitted it without fear. So, one upvote for you, sir.
tek69Jul 23, 2010
I hate celine dion but that was funny.
chrgroseJul 23, 2010
Then she let go like 4 seconds later. What a bitch.

Disney also revamped the main site with all sorts of goodies, including some of the new music from Daft Punk.

I hate disney's flash sites. They were cool when I was 9 years old and it took 10 minutes to load it on dial-up.
mouchezdmJul 23, 2010
Now Iron man should know Tron is the real stuff.

georgesvaneedzeJul 23, 2010
Well, every time I hear Tron I remember that fat bustard w/ mustache in Tron costume from youtube,
he ruined it for everyone!
At least the movie seems to be fun. ;D
tek69Jul 23, 2010
I rarely go to movies but I will be taking off from work and seeing this the night it comes out. I can't believe how excited i am to see this flick. Of all the bulls**t they've remade, or tried to cash in on from my childhood, I honestly think this one is gonna hit the mark perfectly. December can't get here fast enough, and I hate christmas.
demdudeJul 23, 2010
Who the f**k hates christmas?!
tek69Jul 23, 2010
Me, but I already said that. Thanksgiving is way better, all you're expected to do is chill with friends and family, eat lots of good food, drink some beer, and then pass out. Christmas is to hectic.
tecuervoJul 23, 2010
I am still waiting to see TRON. He is kind of important for this movie.
killerkellerjrJul 23, 2010
Stop with the 3D movies already...How many people here actually like 3D? Personally I get sick while watching them and have a hard time seeing in 3D. Just wish Hollywood would stop with the thought that every movie needs to be in 3D. Stop shoving this 3D bulls**t down all of our throats!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I'm sure you can still watch it in 2D, and you'll probably save a couple of bucks. If everyone hates 3D as much as you apparently do, then 3D won't make enough money, and they'll stop doing it. If people like it, they'll keep doing it, but you'll probably always be able to see the 2D version.
killerkellerjrJul 23, 2010
Agreed, my wife and I took our son to Toy Story 3 in 2d, the only theater in town that was in 2d the rest were 3d. But I hope it doesn't become the norm. Overall I think its a great little gimmick but it should stay that way and not a mainstream feature.
chuxedoJul 23, 2010
you have a hard time seeing 3D? wow! you must have a hard time getting around.
killerkellerjrJul 23, 2010
Yes jackass, I have a hard time getting around.....f**king looser! I don't have a problem in real life with day to day depth perception or 3D but my eyes can't adjust to seeing a movie shot in 2D with 3D effects added. Its actually very common and about 12% of the population has this problem, I am part of that 12%. See this article here and next time do some research before typing with your big fat fingers or opening your mouth!
By the way did you know that no one can see in 3D....its all an optical illusion and your brain had been trained to see depth using perception, hence 3D.

Holy Crap Monkies! I dont even want to go to work now, I just want to watch all three trailers in a loop until this film comes out.

"Wow! This NEW Tron trailer is freaking sweet!"
That's what I said literally a year ago when this same exact "comic-con" trailer came out.

Go to the site. Look at the date on the trailer. 07/29/2009 - 51 weeks ago.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
quantumslipJul 23, 2010
fail. this trailer is newer, it just happened to debut at comic con as well.
theworldisflatJul 23, 2010
This trailer was *NOT* the one released at the '09 comiccon. You'll notice it has more footage in it, demo's "Cu" and soforth.
/cliffs: Obvious troll is obvious.
antdudeJul 23, 2010
Am I the only one who wasn't impressed by this trailer? It looks pretty, but meh.
Oh and nice SolarOS, http://verbisware.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Clu_server_2.png for a screen capture.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Disney certainly has the resources.
theworldisflatJul 23, 2010
TRON inspired my interest in computers when I was a kid, and shaped my future. I am very psyched for the next installment... this time I get to take my daughter to see it :)
frostbytJul 23, 2010
Wow. I am excited.
gfailJul 23, 2010
It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a movie.

Please don't suck. Please don't suck. Please don't suck. Please don't suck. Please don't suck.

Daft Punk... nuff said.

Only reason I'm watching it
