Max Blum- At last, a gay character on TV who defies all the ridiculous stereotypes: Max Blum is an unabashed slob who can’t carry a tune (as far as we know) and watches sports all day long.

Sal on "Mad Men" certainly wasn't "out and proud." He was closeted (as one had to be back then in that industry) and, at times, seemed ashamed of his sexuality.
