They make earplugs? And the kid belonged to a member of the crew. A lot of bands or crew bring their kids backstage, on stage, etc. when they're in town. It's no different than some little kid up front at a Jonas Brothers concert, just because this is a metal band. So long as a parent actually follows some basic safety rules, such as earplugs.

I saw them last week in Sydney and they were pretty crap live. Sure, I lost my voice singing the songs etc, but man their playing was just too damn sloppy. I should've taken a clue from the Big 4 DVD, where metallica played just as bad.
Don't get me started on the clipping crap in their last few albums. It's amazing that death magnetic sounds way way better on Guitar Hero, than it does on the actual album.

I saw them last November and it was one of the best shows I've been to. Volbeat and Lamb of God opened. In fact, this video looks like it was taken from that tour.
