Now this was a funny guy back in the day! I always thought there could be one more Naked Gun movie.
anomaly100Nov 29, 2010
Naked Gun kinda sucked. But, he was hilarious.
jdenzerNov 29, 2010
You must be too young to appreciate that kind of humor. That brought us classics like Airplane and the Police Squad series.
mhuntNov 29, 2010
Police Squad is the most under appreciated series ever.
godsbongNov 29, 2010
There's always room for one more, but missing out on Leslie Nielsen wont make the one more as special.
R.I.P

You are kidding right? Even before Frank Drebin died, there was not room for one more. to suggest that there is still room for one more, just not as good now is absurd. Who will it be? Just Ed? Don't even have Nordberg around to help out.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Back in the day? Dude..the world existed before the late 80s.
jdenzerNov 29, 2010
How old are you, ten? Haven't you heard this expression before? It means: at some time before the present. May refer to years, decades, generations, etc.
danconiaNov 29, 2010
He was in Scary Movie 3 and dare I say it... I actually enjoyed the movie.
ashur420Nov 30, 2010

Surely, you must be joking.
But seriously, this is very sad to me.

Wrong Airplane actor.

hediggmeNov 29, 2010
Just realized.... Peter Graves, Barbara Billingsley, and now Leslie Neilsen. They come in 3s!
mixmastabeefNov 29, 2010
His brand of comedy will surely be missed. He was one of the more memorable comedians on the big screen growing up as a child. May his legacy of hilarity continue on.
I am deeply saddened.

wrong movie
novenatorNov 29, 2010
In tribute to this king of slapstick, some of my favorite quotes:
“You're excited? You should feel my nipples!”
"Jane, since I've met you, I've noticed things that I never knew were there before... birds singing, dew glistening on a newly formed leaf, stoplights. "
"Striker: Surely there must be something you can do. Rumack: I'm doing everything I can... and stop calling me Shirley! "Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

He WASN'T the king of slapstick. His brand of humor was to play the STRAIGHT MAN as the humor happened around him.
digitonicNov 29, 2010
I always found his type of humor to be far superior to Jim-Carrey-style humor, for example.
eringobragh16Nov 29, 2010
I just want to tell his family: Good luck, we're all feeling for you.
Closed AccountNov 29, 2010
Why would you say good luck to a family of someone who died? (Or to put it nother way...don't FORCE references where they are not relevant.)
arschgaudiNov 29, 2010
Oh just f**k off
bdog2g2Nov 29, 2010
Dude, you and I rarely agree on anything, but I'll say this: when it comes to Captain Douche Nozzle above I'm with you 100%.

paranor01Nov 29, 2010
Gifted person. Drama, sci-fi (Forbidden Planet), Comedy. He could sing & dance too.
And an all round nice guy... Canadian after all, eh.
voxpunk88Nov 29, 2010
Heaven just got a hell of a lot funnier.
quillrootsNov 29, 2010
I always thought most people on here didn't believe in heaven. I guess when someone dies, heaven is real, and then back to atheism once the grief period is over?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
ozkrNov 29, 2010
Nice way of shoehorning a rather tiresome argument into a completely unrelated discussion. f**k proper context for the sake of making broad generalizations.
quillrootsNov 30, 2010
I probably watched each naked gun movie at least three times when I was younger. They were hilarious, largely in part because of him, but I don't feel the need to say nice things about him when I didn't even know the guy. I think it is safe to say voxpunk88 and all the 80+ thumbs were from people that have never met him and most likely didn't even know what type of person he was.
What "tiresome argument" are you referring to? Religion? Death? Heaven? I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just making an observation. I think this is the proper context, if not the only context for that observation.
This is the comment section for a story about someone dying. Does that mean every comment has to be about how awesome he was. I thought digg was a place where intellectuals could bounce thoughts off each other and grow as individuals. I find it interesting how people look upon celebrities as almost a superior person. No one here even knew him... What if he was a wife beater. Did it ever occur to you he might go to hell? Just cause he's funny he gets a pass into heaven? s**t, I better work on my comedy act.
I guess this is probably "too soon" or I guess not the right place to talk about this, but whatever.
Leslie, if you can hear me buddy... Thanks for the laughs. I hope you enjoyed life and treated everyone with kindness and respect.
ozkrDec 1, 2010
Someone makes a comment about a comedian going to heaven in a page about the news of said comedian dying and you see that as a good opportunity to make a snarky comment about atheism and what you thought most people here believe in. Please stop reading way too much into things, stop arguing for the sake of arguing, and just move on.
stephahneeDec 3, 2010

Very funny not all of as have English as their first language. But i was surprised that someone would look thou the forums and patronize people. Just keep we posted off all your comments it should be funny?
redchefcostaNov 29, 2010
that sucks, but he was 84
meribianNov 29, 2010
Hopefully Clint Eastwood sticks around and contributes more for a good while longer. He's 80.
live_wire_Dec 5, 2010
Average life expectancy in the U.S. is <80. That's a pretty good run.
harrisbradleyNov 29, 2010
with the possibility of making a huge mistake I showed my kids (age 4-12) Airplane I and II the other day. They laughed harder than they have ever laughed before (along with me). They didn't get every single joke, but I seriously was so happy to see them laugh and enjoy this kind of humor, because this was the same kind of humor my dad and I shared. I think it's more than just seeing a comedy. It was humor that my stuffy relatives just didn't get, and that made it even better to laugh at with my dad. I remember my mom rolling her eyes because we laughed so hard at the stupidest slap stick jokes. I have a feeling that kind of humor is going to die along with this passing. I Shirley hope not. R.I.P. Mr. Nielsen.
WreckedEmNov 29, 2010
So, have they ever seen a grown man naked?
harrisbradleyNov 29, 2010
Yes, but I'm keeping them away from the Turkish Prisons.
bosskeyNov 29, 2010
The great thing about seeing Airplane! as a kid is that as you grow older you understand more and more of the jokes...

lalongecarabineNov 29, 2010
Anybody remember him in Due South as the Ghost of Fraser's father?
immediateactionNov 29, 2010
This might sound callous but celebrity deaths usually don't sadden me much, but I remember watching all the Naked Gun films when I was a kid and I loved them, and I love them even more now having understood some of the more adult jokes in the movies (ie the dildo on the end of the leaf blower in the sex shop; I had no idea what that was when I was 7). He was great in Airplane! and he was great as Frank Drebin. I can say that I am actually sad that he's gone. Thanks Leslie for a lot of great laughs.
