I just don't like the way it perpetuates the gay stereotype that all homosexual males are prancing, singing, dancing, flamboyant little fairies. In reality, that type only makes up like 10%; you don't notice the other 90% because they act just like everyone else.
As for the kiss, people just need to get over it. If you find it offensive, that's your own problem. We've been seeing straight couples kissing on television for decades. If it isn't offensive in those situations, there's no reason it should be if two guys are involved, other than your own narrow-minded bigotry.

It doesn't perpetuate that stereotype. That's only one of the characters. The guy he kissed isn't a "prancer".
I hate to break it to you .... but I was a singer in school. The gay kid was there.

*A* gay kid was there. They exist. They're just the minority within the gay community; they just appear to be the majority to outsiders because it's only the super-obvious flamboyant fairies that they notice. Your average person tends to think of all gays as being those people you see in the gay pride parades, but those are about as representatives of homosexuals as Mardis Gras is of heterosexuals. And yet, you don't see politicians complaining that they don't like straights because they wear speedos and gyrate their hips. It's absolutely ridiculous that this standard gets applied only to the minority.

I'm going to bet that there is a large portion of the gay community in the arts. There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that.... but don't say that the kid in Glee is doing a disservice.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Oh, I don't deny one bit that there are numerous gays in show business. I would put money on it, even. My point is that those types aren't particularly representative of all homosexuals, and this show only reinforces that stereotype that this is simply the way all gays are.
Personally, I would really rather see more casual homosexuality in tv characters. Have a character who's just like any other character except, oh, he happens to date guys. End of story. No extra drama surrounding just the gay guy or anything like that. Just another character. Is that so difficult?
And besides, seeing as I'm part of the gay community, I have EVERY right to say they are doing us a disservice, because that's precisely how I see it.

Again ...the character that he kissed defies "your" stereotype.
I think there are quite a few gay characters on TV nowadays. I think of Modern Family and also that one with the family in California with Sally Field as the mom.
Glee...however...well....it's about the music. It's sad that you see the gay character as a "disservice" to your people.

Look, I don't think the character's all bad. I'm glad he's bringing the plight of gay youth to the public stage.
But I still hate that virtually every gay leading character has to be a flamboyant fairy. I don't regularly watch Glee, but I'd be willing to bet the masculine stereotype-defier isn't one of the primary characters. He might but, but that's just not how things usually go.
The last time I saw a normal-acting leading homosexual character was back in Buffy the Vampire slayer. It's sad that we've gone so long without another major character in a major series like that, but oh well.
I find it sad that you feel yourself fit to judge me over this subject. You have absolutely zero right, especially spouting off with language about "the gay kid." Being best buddies with Alan doesn't make you qualified to speak on the issue, and if you see no problem with portraying virtually all gay characters as super-feminine little dandies, then it's obvious you don't have enough experience in your own daily life to comment on the matter, either.

You can kindly shut up about me not being able to have a conversation with you, you bully.
Congratulations on your superior gayness.
I'll speak when I wish to speak. I have said NOTHING offensive.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Well, miss Quirkopatra, you can kindly go fornicate yourself with a red-hot iron rod. If you wish to describe your experience afterwards, feel free. I won't tell you to shut up then, since you'll actually have experience with what you're talking about. :-)

Maybe you should watch show on continuous basis before you say it's doing a disservice. Kurt is gay yes, and he may be "the stereotypical gay" to you... but then there is his boyfriend who is totally different. And then you even have Santana... and the football player... and hell Britney is bicurious too... All act very different towards it. I mean get the hell over it. This is a TV show about a Glee club. In this Glee club there is a gay member. And the gay member happens to act like that. Its perpetuating nothing. Should all white people flip out because Finn is the stereotypical horrible dancer? Should all Blonde people flip out that Britney is portrayed as the stereotypical ditzy blonde? Should all Latin woman flip out because Santana is portrayed with teh stereotypical attitude and latina temper? I mean really. Its saying here is a cross section of ANY highschool. Those people are there. Deal with it.

Couldn't agree more, get over the kiss. Remember Kirk kissed Uhura! Having a particular sexual preference is a personal issue and one that we should respect. So if you find out someone is into fat women, bondage, stockings, homoerotica, cross dressing or whatever don't judge them. Just let them be what they want to be.

Glee comes up with the stories are about how music brings us together no matter who we are. I watch all episodes of Glee @ http://www.xfinitytv.com/glee

Glee is one show which comes up with different songs, with heart touching stories that indicate how the music is pure and binds each other without differentiating no matter who you are.

This was an interesting article. I think the writers are doing a pretty good job dealing with Kurt's sexuality.

Can't wait for the Sex Pistols episode. I wonder who they'll get to get addicted to heroin and overdose? And then someone else can sing a tribute of "My Way" to the deceased.
