Although I'm sure this is going to be hilarious, sometimes I wish Hollywood would just let great movies be great movies by themselves. Why the need for a sequel?

...because we would have never had the Empire Strikes Back, Back to the Future II or The Dark Knight.
True, the number of movies that surpass their predecessor are few and far between. However when done correctly it makes it all worth it. Plus you have the option of not seeing the movie and if you unfortunately do, you can pretend it never existed like I do with Rocky V

Yes I did panic and felt I had to throw 3 in there and I couldn't think that fast. Let me qualify it and state that in place of BTTF II - I submit Terminator 2
For the record though, I do like BTTF II better, but that is my my own humble opinion

Every once in a while we'll get a gem where the 2nd movie was actually better than the first. And even rarer will a director manage to pull of a hat trick and each film improves sequentially.
So here's to hoping that the movie is good and The Dark Knight Returns doesn't screw it up!

You also have the 3rd movie curse...
Seems that 1 is a hit, 2 usually isn't as good as 1 and 3 is outright awful in comparison.
Very few movies break this rule ( LotR: Return of the King, and Indy: Last Crusade are clear standouts and Personally I liked Godfather 3 even if it wasn't as good as the 1st two it isn't as bad as most people make it).

Exactly. They only care about the money and since they ran out of original ideas about 10 years ago they have to try to make a franchise out of anything that's successful.
I loved The Hangover. I just hope that this sequel will not sully the good name.

Meh...The Hangover was way overrated. Watch the trailer and you've seen the movie. "OMG, these guys are hung over! And they have a baby with them! And Andy from The Office is missing a tooth! Look, a tiger! There's Mike Tyson! This is crazy, how did it all happen!?!?!" Let the digging down begin.
