Will the new Digg have a shout function?

Will the new Digg have a Dig and Bury functions?

If it doesn't, it will be Mixx for me or Reddit.
Notice how Mixx seems to be how the new Digg is described by early users.

Am I wrong?

Whassa madda phee? DP won't be able to manipulate the system when your precious buries are gone?

Sadly, it really won't be Digg anymore, and there really won't be much unique about the site.
dadumtishAug 4, 2010
In my day we called it a survey, not "crowdsourcing"

140 signs film reviews are just wrong
disappointedAug 4, 2010
Nice idea but I don't think it works.
E.g. http://fflick.com/movie/Despicable_Me
At time of writing, the first two hits are links to the NY Times and E! Online reviews. Third, fourth and sixth are retweets of the same thing, which isn't a review at all. In general, it's full of the randomness, hashtags and URLs of the twitterverse, which do not make for easy browsing. Then at the top right of the page is a percentage score which appears to be based, not on twitter but on visitors to the site.
Needs a lot more work to extract any goodness there might be in Twitter.

Proof this concept sucks: http://fflick.com/movie/The_Twilight_Saga_New_Moon

To be fair, it's an accurate representation of what the population (as it were) of Twitter thinks about the movie. Needless to say this says far more about Twitter's demographic than about the actual quality of the film.
eroc668Aug 4, 2010
The first thing I saw when I clicked on Inception was a spoiler of the end. This is going to upset people looking at reviews to decide which movie to see.
zomgorlyAug 4, 2010
I kind of see the movie industry using this site more than average person.
maxmwoodAug 4, 2010
I sent fflick an email with all of this in earlier -
First of all congrats on a successful launch and an absolutely gorgeous UI but there are a few glaring problems (in my opinion) with fflick. First of all let's say I'm planning on going to see The A-Team so I want to find out what my friends and other people think.
I search for 'The A Team" - nothing turns up, so I try "A Team", "The ATeam", and then finally "The A-Team" you guys can easily fix that one so it turns up movies similar to what you search for.
Now I see that one of the website I'm following has posted a review for The A-Team but if I pay any attention to my Twitter feed on a daily basis (which I do) then I've probably read it. Also I know that this particular website tends to put spoilers in their reviews so I've already purposely avoided it anyway. So let's see what other people are saying -
I click Interesting and the top post is "New Movie Poll: Can Karate Kid School The A-Team? http://bit.ly/9QdPcg not really very interesting.
Next I click Latest and the top post is "Bradley cooper shirtless - bringing joy to women and gay men everywhere in the a-team film...." that doesn't really interest or help me either.
So I click Positive and the top post is "today/tonite i watch THE A-TEAM and it was incredible i <3 it. And i watched THE LAST AIR BENDER and that was a pretty good movie to haha" she's obviously an idiot for thinking The Last Air Bender was a good movie so I definitely shouldn't listen to her.
So then I click Negative and the top post is "The A-team movie looks dumb as hell. I can't believe Rampage gave up UFC for that stupid s**t." so here's a guy who's saying UFC would be a smarter choice than a multi million dollar blockbuster and he hasn't seen the movie. Yeh, forget him as well.
So now I've had no help. Showtimes button works nicely, Buy Tickets is for US only and Netflix is non existent in the UK :(
If I saw the film and decided to use the Love/Hate buttons then I would but I don't want to have to post it to my Twitter. I'm happy to update your stats on fflick but not if it includes sending tweets.
You guys could absolutely destroy IMDB by allowing reviews by users and a proper rating system as well as use the Twitter features on the side. You've got this huge social website but there's not much social activity going on, why not include a chat or a forum or something. Also it's probably best to allow users that don't have twitter accounts to register also. If you like my ideas and include my suggestions then I definitely want in on fflick because it's got huge potential.

Hi Max,
Awesome feedback, I'm one of the co-founders of fflick and we are making bug fixes left and right and search is a top priority. Please keep the feedback coming, we love it!
We have been getting a ton of requests for simple voting and interaction independent of any social platform and will definitely add it to a very long list of ideas ;)
Hopefully you can find a few folks to follow on twitter who share your movie tastes, follow them on twitter and get a fflick movie stream on your profile that is useful to you.
maxmwoodAug 4, 2010
Hey Marc,
Thanks for listening to the users. I'm looking forward to the future updates so keep up the great work :)

Hasn't this existed for years at www.tweetflix.com? Granted, the implementation is much better here.

@phoenixTx
I am currently beta testing the New digg and I asked that same question to the guys at digg. This is what they said:
"Bury doesn't exist in the same way -- at this time. But if you don’t want to see a story in your Top News or My News pages, you can close the story from your view by clicking on the ‘x’ that appears in the top right of the story item when your mouse hovers on the story. This will remove the story from all your views and ensure that you don’t see this article again. If you want to report a particular story for being inappropriate, you can click on the ‘Report’ button on the story permalink – this can be accessed by clicking on the story description. On that next page, directly beneath the description of the story will be a ‘x Report’ button – please click Report here to submit an inappropriate story to our attention."
Best,
- Digg Support Team

You've got to be kidding. After just reading a few of these micro blogs it becomes painfully clear that all you are going to get is some bland catchy phrase or two, like Inception = Loved it! Also most of the people sending these idiotic tweets are mindless narcissistic suburban troglodytes who have no concept of what is a good movie.
So fflick = f**king Stupid!

Giving "everyone's a critic" a new meaning...
yourbrokenovenAug 5, 2010
fflick auto-friends itself on twitter, and tweets when you sign up and make other actions on the website without disclosing this information to you. Do not sign up for fflick until it fixes this.
