The story is very late being posted lol and ive read it before way back in the year 2000 but its still relevant.
This brings to light the real reason the **AA wants to curb piracy. Piracy has shown the world that artists dont need labels to get their music out there. These days an artist could self publish online and keep most of that money for themselves. True it would be harder to set tours up with a major label but its possible with good management. The RIAA knows this but they dont want artists to know. Once artists start making it on their own the major labels will cease to exist...what a sad day that would be.

Wednesday, Jun 14, 2000 Very timely Digg!

Nice to see a lot has changed since :(

Just sad to see we are still fighting this and now it's worse than ever! Yep, old but very timely.
luigisonJan 22, 2012
I have a newfound respect for Courtney Love. I also now know why so many bands I loved from decades ago only made on album.
innercool22Jan 22, 2012
You omitted a crucial "e" from your statement.
luigisonJan 22, 2012
Thanks.
pc25Jan 22, 2012
it's called lack of viable material.
satori3000Jan 22, 2012
I really don't like Courtney Love or her music... but damn, she makes some good points here.
norman619Jan 22, 2012
Who cares if you like her music or not. I don't get why you felt you had to tell us that. This isn't about her music.
lilbambiJan 21, 2012Submitter
Excellent article.

Here's where this thing was submitted to Digg back in 2007
http://digg.com/news/story/Courtney_Love_does_the_math_or_Why_you_needn_t_shed_any_tears_for_the_RIAA
lilbambiJan 22, 2012Submitter
Yep, funny it didn't show that when I submitted it.
But as far as I am concerned it's as relevant now as it was then; maybe more so.
norman619Jan 22, 2012
Courtney Does The Math is VERY old.
narrowgateJan 22, 2012
Perhaps Courtney Love does METH is more appropriate.
thenovascotianJan 22, 2012
Wow! Courtney Love actually says intelligent things sometimes!
thefirewireJan 22, 2012
When she is sober she seems to be a very articulate, rationale, and calm person.
When she is not she is the complete opposite of all of that.
qubeularJan 22, 2012
a quarter way through the article i was stuck with the notion that i had already read it, ages ago.
i think its funny she sympathies with s**tallica and yet talks about how she uses napster, oh courtney u so crazy. uh, ive always held that ulrich is just mad that people can find out that their music sucks without buying any of their awful cds.
in their defence, they were of the few bands of the 80s that didnt make people want stab themselves in the face with ice picks, as much.
um, ok.
mbraynardJan 22, 2012
What's Napster?
glamour2012artJan 22, 2012
so nice
narrowgateJan 22, 2012
I find it suspicious that the train wreck known as Courtney Love could write an article this lucid. That aside, it's a well written piece that gets to the heart of SOPA.
d0x360_Jan 22, 2012
it was written during her clean i wanna be an actress phase
Dazza_TucieJan 22, 2012
It's like they say with the X Factor finalists when they don't make it. They end up being sued for whatever advance they have left. Started off with nothing, fifth in a tv talent show, one sided contract, straight in at no. 35, straight out, dropped, bankrupt!
somedummyJan 22, 2012
If they can't make it after being an X Factor finalist then that's that. Risking bankruptcy is a pretty fair trade for the chance at an audience of 10 million.
Dazza_TucieJan 22, 2012
I guess you're right, in a lot of cases it probably would have happened anyway. You can only sing 'I believe I can fly', start crying because it means so much to you, and expect to keep your job.
