They sucked, no other way to put it
conservative_zombieFeb 7, 2011
Given Christina Aguilera's butchering of the National Anthem, they were in good company
inetroadkillFeb 7, 2011
For some reason, they nearly always find the worst people to do the national anthem. I can't figure out why each of the people singing it feel the need to butcher it.
entangledphysxFeb 7, 2011
Idiocracy!!
djstormieFeb 25, 2011
Yeah most just change it or butcher it
blklightningFeb 8, 2011

conservative_zombieFeb 8, 2011
She's a f**king performance artist. This is her profession. She's sung the song dozens of times before.
biggestofmikesFeb 8, 2011
Or even rehearsed. Ya know, practice before hand. As a music ed major, I've done my share of musical performances. The article is about right. A quality of a high school talent show.
palomabonitaFeb 11, 2011
She did rehearse, rather brilliantly.

I want to high five the sound guy in charge of that show for putting what sounded like the BEP's monitor mix as the main out, dry mics and all. Anyone who embarrasses them like that is a friend of mine.
thezonerFeb 7, 2011
Fergie should never sing Guns N Roses ever again -- even if it's karaoke
bossm4nFeb 7, 2011
Amen. That was horrific. Slash should be ashamed to have been apart of that. Maybe he can hook up with Josh Grobin or Celine Dion for his next project.
gamerchick420Feb 7, 2011
Yeah... don't get me wrong because I do like the BEP, but after last nights performance.... omg, lol. thezoner, you are absolutely right about Fergie singing sweet child of mine, when she opened her mouth and started to sing like that I was like....wtf are you doing? that was just god awful.
mysedaiFeb 7, 2011
I didn't see it, but I have a hard time believing it was any worse than Sheryl Crow's cover...
kronk42583Feb 8, 2011
it was.
think train wreck with 0 survivors.
darthmeatloafFeb 7, 2011
Hey, now... SOMEONE had to sing it, and Axl would have broken the stage.
Have you guys SEEN him recently? He's got an appetite for destruction, all right. He's also got an appetite for two large pizzas with extra cheese...
kronk42583Feb 8, 2011
The stage was broken, the big chunk of the red lights on stage failed to light.
darthmeatloafFeb 8, 2011
In all fairness, you almost have to expect busted lights on a hunk of field stage that gets moved around...
kronk42583Feb 8, 2011
This is the super bowl, its unacceptable, it was't a couple of incandescent bulb out of many. It was a large section in the middle, almost a 1/4 of the stage. Add in the sound mix being terrible, microphones switching on and off, and the complete and total lack of talent by the performers, i'd call is a complete disaster.
darthmeatloafFeb 8, 2011
I didn't say it was acceptable, just not unexpected.

kalucardFeb 8, 2011
she didn't have her autotune, that's why it sucked.
justjohn025Feb 8, 2011
She shouldn't even sing Guns N Roses if she's playing vocals on Guitar Hero or Rockband
guestaccountFeb 8, 2011
I missed the super bowl because I had to work, so this is the first time I've found out about this tragedy. I went to go look it up, as I still found it hard to believe Slash would lower himself like this, but sure enough he did, and it was terrible.
I think it's worth noting that on the site where I found this video, one of the related videos is footage of an abortion. I think the comparison is fairly accurate.

diggsmckenzieFeb 7, 2011
Really? The Usher part was painful to watch. Its like he couldn't decide whether he should sing along or not while he and the BEP guy obnoxiously kept going OH OH OH MY GOD randomly.
rockergirlieFeb 8, 2011
Someone asked me why Usher kept repeating the same phrase over and over again, and I couldn't answer him... I could only tell him that Usher's most popular song went "Yeah yeah yeah.... yeah yeah - yeah!"

Could of been worst. Bieber could of been their guest
rockergirlieFeb 7, 2011
I thought to myself during the performance, "The only way this could get any worse is if Justin Bieber was performing. The only way this could get any better is if they dropped in Justin from the sky like Usher, only without any safety lines."

It's a shame that poor kid gets so much s**t from everyone. I mean, granted, his music brings me to a strange place in between imulses to commit genocide and suicide, but he seems to have his head in the right place. That could just be because I saw a portion of his music video tailored to show his good dees in society. *Shrugs*
Regardless, just like every other young celebrity, he is going to be in a world of s**t. He doesn't need help from the rest of us to be completely screwed.

It must be the curse of the half time show(or bad choices in musicians) that has led to the pathetic shows of the past couple of years.
darthmeatloafFeb 7, 2011
Not a curse, per se, it's that Disney has apparently come to believe that no single artist/group can hold people's interest for the full duration of the show.

Pretty much solidifies my stance that I will never purchase another CD of theirs, and I wouldn't go to their concern unless it was free.
Fergie is just a terrible singer, and looks like she started back on her Meth habit.
joghobsFeb 8, 2011
People still purchase CDs?
dare978devilFeb 7, 2011
They were terrible. Stick to rock and roll, hip hop just doesn't play to such a large audience. Usher was just as bad, he didn't even bother to move his lips most of the time, it was hilarious to watch him dancing away while his song sung itself.
atomic1fireFeb 8, 2011
Maybe just have one Pop act, then lead into a rock one.
Satisfy both and play off each artist.
Usher atleast did something other then sing.
The B.E.P wore those weird robot costumes and fergie sang that guns and roses song, and I didn't even understand what she was saying.

That was our revenge for slavery 100 years ago. Now they dont get to ask for a dime in reparations, I've had it up to here with them..
Cant play the "Discrimination" or "Persecution" or "Violated my rights" cards anymore. We gave you a chance and tolerated you for years. Thats it, no more. I could've seen that during any day of the week on BET or MTV, and what they did to poor Slash is just beyond forgiveness. Fergie was doing little more then living the american dream of wanting to be a minority.

This is when I appreciate social sites. I've seen some people say they loved it. I thought it was a trainwreck and was running a commentary last night. I wanted to enjoy it. Then it started... I said:
"It seems like the mics aren't working...you can only hear one of them."
"Wow...there's no excuse for sound this bad at the SB Half time show!"
"Did they rehearse?"
"Oh, now her mic is on."
"OMG! Turn her mic off ... could she hit a note with a tennis racket?"
"Wow... they really sound TERRIBLE ... I like some of their stuff on the radio... but LIVE this is a disaster."
"Oh, is Slash appearing? He's really a TERRIFIC guitarist, there's none better..."
"WHY is Fergie singing this song? "
"Oh..... Usher ... good .... WOW that jump and landing in the splits was excellent!"
"Ok...maybe they'll just end with their best and not do their new song because it's bad..."
"Uh oh... the new song."
"At this point...it just needs to be over...it's painful."
Of course, other family was talking, too. When my brother heard Fergie butcher everything he said, "They should have left her mic off."
My grandma said, "I don't even know what this is."
My niece said, "Oh, I like their songs! I know this one."
But we all just kept looking at each other like, "Is this really as bad as I think it is or am I just too old?"
sevenvtFeb 7, 2011
Yes, we all lamented their last minute decision to actually turn on Fergies mic. Especially without the music being loud enough to somehow balance out the ear drum, which undoubtedly spent most of its time in my head trying to reject the sounds it was hearing from the tv.

I enjoyed Tom Petty and Prince. Was it The Who last year? They were pretty good.
I even saw the wardrobe malfunction.
I just COULD NOT BELIEVE how bad the halftime show was last night.
sevenvtFeb 7, 2011
There was no forgiving last nights half-time. I heard The Who was bad, but then again, I didn't see it.
"wardrobe malfunction" ... who goes on stage wearing pasties under a garment without the intention to malfunction. Sheesh.
Closed AccountFeb 7, 2011
We have a tradition of sharing Super Bowl Sunday at my grandmother's. I cook.
For the wardrobe malfunction...I was the only one actually WATCHING the performance.
I said ... "Oh my! What was that! I think he ripped her top off and exposed her! Maybe I'm wrong, but I think ... I dunno if I just saw that but I think ... this might be a pretty big deal tomorrow...." My uncle said, "I missed it. I wish I'd been watching."
The Who was so-so...but no where NEAR as bad as last night.
I was almost embarrassed for AMERICA last night. We can't do sound and we pick people who can't do live music to perform LIVE at the Superbowl.

digitaldeadstarFeb 7, 2011
I didn't think it was horrible. Nor great. I've seen them do much better at other performances. I've also seen Fergie's rendition of Sweet Child O' Mine be a lot better than this one. Granted she's probably singing it better than Axl is these days... but that's neither here nor there.
In defense of those planning the Superbowl and the halftime entertainment, it must be a bit difficult to select musical artists. You're stuck trying to find groups that appeal to a wide spectrum of people as the audience is quite diverse.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
