splicetoday.com — Comic books are always a delicate, contentious subject. Forever relegated to the world of geekery, it’s rare that a comic book storyline finds its way into the newspaper. The death of Superman and his later, temporary costume change, the death of Captain America, and the breaking of Batman are probably the only few times that the world was aware that comics are an ongoing narrative and not just a bunch of emotionally-arrested, pseudo-sexy pictures drawn by really old teenagers. I'm dating myself, but I remember when Batman/Superman/Superboy DC comics were fairly straightforward, not a trace of P.C., and unaffected by current events. Of course, that's when each comic was a dime apiece. One of my kids is a huge Batman fan, and what kills me is how convoluted the plots are, not to mention the price of the Batman "books": about 20 bucks for 100 words, although the artwork is gorgeous, as is the paper.

I had a little bit of a giggle at that last sentence. I still can't figure out how they are going to pull this off, since by batman beyond, Bruce Wayne is a crotchety old man. Not that the cartoon series would have anything to do with the comics, but I can't see batman as letting just anyone take his place in a city.
