Digging this to raise awareness.
norman619Dec 30, 2010
Not sure what raising awareness will do. Most people are very aware of this disorder. Parents need to teach their kids to love themselves and not let others tell them how they should look or how they should feel about themselves. I'm thankful that my parents gave my sisters a strong sense of self-worth.
ravagedsoulDec 30, 2010
Many people are not really aware enough to notice the disorder in its early stages, especially parents with teenagers who are actively hiding their behavior.
Also, this is not something that only affects women; plenty of guys have anorexia as well. Pointing this out because a couple of comments imply otherwise.
andyaldrichDec 30, 2010
Norman, that's great for your sisters and your family.
I'm not a father, but I imagine that there are a whole lot of things to do as well as teaching a sense of self-worth to children.
I also imagine that most parents have a huge amount of love for their children, so if Anorexia still exists in the face of that, then there must be something else going on.
So I stick with what I said.
norman619Dec 30, 2010
Well, it really does begin at home. Even my own self-worth was instilled in me by my parents. You build upon whatever foundation your parents helped you lay out. If your parents haven't helped you value yourself enough then the assh**es out there will eat you alive.
bicolanoDec 31, 2010
Anorexia is a mental, as well as physical, disease. You can do your damnedest trying to instill in your child a healthy sense of self-worth, but he/she could still end up with it. Like ravagedsoul said, the public needs to be educated on the warning signs and symptoms of anorexia.
I remember back when Karen Carpenter died due to the long-term effects associated with anorexia nervosa. She was the first high-profile figure to die because of it and her death brought it, and other eating disorders, out into the public's awareness. Health professionals know much more now about the disease, but the public's ignorance really hasn't lessened that much since then, IMHO. Like most mental diseases, they don't think anyone they know would ever have it, so they don't bother taking the time trying to understand it.
danconiaDec 31, 2010
We need to bring awareness to treatment for eating disorders: psychological therapy!
Feel free to name any other effective methods of treatment. Psychologists are the only good one I'm fully aware of.

straight up starved herself to death. she looks really freaking old too.
thealisonpageDec 30, 2010
And yet 'we' never learn...
norman619Dec 30, 2010
Who's "we?" Women who suffer from this need to go through therapy. Mentally healthy people do not choose to starve themselves to death to look good.
somedummyDec 30, 2010
Speak for yourself. I like big boobs too much to get into skinny chicks.
norman619Dec 30, 2010
I'm into women who look like normal healthy women not those that look like 12 year old boys.

Poor cow. It's a shame that people have to suffer this affliction, to show others how superficial life really is.
norman619Dec 30, 2010
Life isn't superficial.
Closed AccountDec 30, 2010
Oh yes it is.
norman619Dec 30, 2010
Can you please clarify? I don't think we are on the same page.

Oh yes we are.
laptopsandpartDec 30, 2010
Oh, hope you feel fine.
norman619Dec 30, 2010
She's dead.
bloginityDec 30, 2010
It's a very sad disease, at least now she rests quietly.
acidfairyyDec 30, 2010
Would be nice if the Daily Mail stopped posting bikini pictures of women who've gained half a stone.
Such a hypocritical paper.
norman619Dec 30, 2010
Not sure what you mean.
punchingpenguinDec 30, 2010
Every time some female celeb gains 500 grams, the Daily Fail has an article about how she is turning into a real porker.
roddackDec 30, 2010
How is this hypocritical? All they are doing is reporting on the death of someone
acidfairyyDec 30, 2010
Because they report on anorexia quite often, and I do believe there was a story sometime this year saying one girl's case of anorexia may have been exacerbated by the media; yet they don't do anything about their own reporting. They did a story a couple of months back about Katy Perry and her 'belly'. WHAT belly?!
alterliteDec 30, 2010
Stupid is as stupid does--- to quote Forrest Gump...
fx666Dec 30, 2010
I like skinny girls. However, she was too skinny even for my taste.
Q. Why the models look angry?
A. Because they are hungry.
justatoolDec 30, 2010
28? sad
norman619Dec 30, 2010
It's life. She chose this and she was mentally ill. What I find disgusting is how the industry exploited her.
ravagedsoulDec 30, 2010
What an ignorant statement: "she chose this" followed by "she was mentally ill". Those things are mutually exclusive.
norman619Dec 30, 2010
What? Mentally ill people can't make choices?
acidfairyyDec 30, 2010
Healthy people don't make a choice to become mentally ill, no.
Nobody chooses anorexia. Some stupid girls might try it, but they can't do it for very long because only a mentally ill person has the willpower to starve themselves to death.
scooternrocketDec 30, 2010
Why would anyone employ her as a model - are they trying to sell death or seomthing ?
weirddemonDec 30, 2010
Don't be a jerk
scooternrocketDec 31, 2010
Who ever employers is doing her a disservice - firstly they are sending thewrong message to other women who do the copy cat thing and they are telling her that her image is right because now shes wanted as a model.
mikedehaanDec 30, 2010
That image invokes pity.

rzmudDec 30, 2010
truly sad- its good that a fashion company wanted to show the side effects of the negative body image that is so often perpetuated by their industry.
cyberdactylDec 30, 2010
The people who were involved in promoting her image as a "model" are pathetic.

Sad and tragic
urbanguerillaDec 30, 2010
She'll might actually put on a few pounds now that she's dead.
zephyrprimeDec 30, 2010
My sympathies to the poor girl and her family. She bought into a perverse view of herself and the world. Even realizing her problem, she was unable to overcome it. However, we should remember that this was a self inflicted problem so she was not wholly innocent. The fashion industry needs to change. It is run by ridiculous people who have a vision of female beauty that does not even conform with what most guys want.
star8749Dec 30, 2010
it is so sad that she died. I hope she finds peace.
davidtcDec 31, 2010
Is this the same girl that Tyra Banks was exploiting on her stupid model show? Even if it isn't I hope Tyra feels guilty for exploiting another anorexic model for her show.
zamatoDec 31, 2010
I'm fat, give me sympathy.
