Very 90s costume from Jim Lee but I like it
cawpinJun 30, 2010
The only thing "Wonder Woman" about the costume is the person wearing it.
Closed AccountJun 30, 2010
And he still can't draw decent feet.
ontainJun 30, 2010
I thought that was Rob Liefeld.
falconearJul 1, 2010
No, Rob Liefeld just can't draw, period. This was the guy that gave Captain America giant man-boobs, and thinks that every uniform should have like a billion pouches attached to it.
hulezAug 30, 2010
I would digg that.
yeselguapoJun 30, 2010
She's too covered up!
xwhyJun 30, 2010
Nice for an Elseworlds ... but like Spidey's new costume, it'll disappear before you know it.
And changing the origin?
SHEESH!! Just come up with a new character, why don't you?
trdrstvJun 30, 2010
Honestly.... if Paradise Island was basically destroyed why can't this be a different goddess, and have Diana as a mentor figure ?
mrdeadheadJun 30, 2010
i'm getting a wondergirl vibe from this.
give it time, this'll be back to normal soon.
just like the last time they did this.
or like superman.
or the many many green lanterns, and variations thereof.
or batman.
or anyone else who's had moderate enough a following to warrant a change.
it's a quick ploy for increased readers.
they piss all the fans off, which pisses normal people off, everyone throws a fit about it, and then they changer her back for some "landmark" issue and their readership goes up nominally, as they basically reboot her allowing new fans to come in.
remeloxJul 1, 2010
The previews for Superman, where Lex Luthor is amicably having dinner with Lois Lane, make me wonder if this is a cross comic deal.
lastdawnofmanJul 2, 2010
OF course if they did that then you'd bitch that they'd just ripped off Wonder Woman.
xwhyJul 2, 2010
Different costume, different origin? Why would it be a ripoff? Well, maybe if she had bracelets and a lasso, sure.
sequentialheartJun 30, 2010
ZOMG PANTS
tofu3dJun 30, 2010
Lady Gaga can get away without wearing pants, yet Wonder Woman can't.
Today is a sad sad day. This costume makes me want to puke.
zeibenJun 30, 2010
In the alternate time line, she has terrible cankles and cottage cheese thighs. Tragic, really. Not unlike the Flash's man boobs.
claytonshipmanJun 30, 2010

This costume redesign has got me to thinking - if I were a superhero, I wouldn't have a costume. I'd just fight crime in jeans and a t-shirt. Why? Because the bad guys would never suspect me of being a superhero until I proceeded to kick their asses. It just seems to me that there'd be an advantage in not immediately announcing who you are every time you bust a crime. I mean think about it - a villain sees Superman coming after him, if he has a kryptonite ray or something, that'll be the first thing he uses. However, they'd probably react completely differently to Clark Kent coming after them.
warlok480Jun 30, 2010
^^^ This I think is why Batman skulks on the rooftops and drops on you cheap shotting you before you get a chance to react....someone SEES batman coming and its "Oh s**t, its a normal human with no superpowers, get the ray guns and the howitzer out" But batmans fighting style is to sneak out of the shadows and neutralize you before you know its him.
charlotte_webJun 30, 2010
Superheroes always have the worst footwear. How does Spider-Man run around in what is essentially bare feet? And you know the fabric under his feet would be shredding on a daily basis.
Most superheroes have boots, but how can you run and be athletic in boots?
Superhero footwear in the real world would be a pair of sneakers -- with a steel toe, so you can kick some guy's nuts up into the roof of his mouth.
myempyreanJun 30, 2010
Ninjas run around in nothing more than tightly wound fabric around their feet. it allows them to mold their feet onto anything and also be a lot more quiet than loud boots.
Closed AccountJun 30, 2010
Military has been running and being "athletic" in boots for ever...
sdcarterJun 30, 2010
www.vibramfivefingers.com I have a pair and they're awesome. Sure, I feel every rock I step on. But I also feel more stable when I'm running or climbing. Eventually, if you wear them enough, your feet get stronger and don't hurt.

Good point about the Army boots. I wore chukka boots in the Navy and trust me, you don't want to be running around in them any more than you have to. But the Army boots are cloth and foam rubber, and lace up tight around your ankles to provide support.
I imagine that, after a full day of fighting crime in THESE boots, however, Captain America spends his nights soaking his feet:

Pretty much how Wolverine fought for years...
invictus125Jun 30, 2010
I think this is a great idea. I've always figured that if I were a superhero i'd just blend in with crowds in civilian clothes, and keep a ski mask in my pocket. then, when i needed to so something out of the ordinary, i put the ski mask on, take care of business, and retreat through an alley, at which point i remove the mask and blend in on the other side. It would prevent unwanted attention from the media, police, etc. At least for a while.
earthforce1Jul 2, 2010
Fight crime in the nude. By the time the bad guys get over the shock you can whomp them.
sciguyajJun 30, 2010
Yeah, I think it was time. The old outfit was really dated.
isaacandJun 30, 2010Submitter
I understand the need for a change, so for that, I guess I can respect Jim Lee. To me, the old one was a classic

seltaeb4Jun 30, 2010
Because that's who they voted for, and so deserve to wear the mark of shame.
charlotte_webJun 30, 2010
That kind of stuff always makes me think of The Spider, who was a crime fighter in old pulp novels. He wore a ring that had (of course) a spider insignia, and when he socked some thug in the face, it would leave a spider mark.
I only remember that story because Stan Lee said the name was his inspiration for creating Spider-Man.
That kind of stuff may have been cool back in the 1940's, but is the height of superhero camp today.
philbertJun 30, 2010
The same goes for The Phantom, who just had a movie on SyFy. Except it's a skull on the ring.
http://wearenotarockband.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/the-phantom.jpg
falconearJul 1, 2010
Which of course they busted on Mythbusters. You cannot punch somebody in the head and leave a ring shaped mark. Not before taking their head off first anyway.

palehorse864Jun 30, 2010
Jim Lee's X-men designs are still my favorites.
tgc1Jun 30, 2010
I loved Jim's work throughout my early years in comics. But I have to disagree. I did like where the costume design went in the movies because as was said, super heroes running around in spandex wasn't going to cut it for a hollywood flick. Jim has a talent in drawing our favorite heroes on paper, but on the big screen it just doesn't translate.
palehorse864Jun 30, 2010
Why does everyone say spandex though. It doesn't actually have to be spandex on screen. Use looser materials or whatever is popular in movies at the time. Leather, pvc, but just use it within t he same designs.
The Matrix used a lot of tight cloth and pvc and such and it worked for them. I think the outfits could translate onto screen if done right, and with either thicker grade or looser fitting materials.
Granted, some might not work. Wolverine is better off onscreen without his headgear, both because it would look strange in a movie, and also because the studio would want you to see Hugh Jackman after they gave him all that money to appear.
Nightcrawlers outfit is one that wouldn't translate so well on screen, unless you kept his origin story and changed him out of it later.
Other designs would translate pretty easily. Jubilee's outfit is made up of street clothes anyway and Gambit's outfit wouldn't be difficult to translate either.
bobon123Jun 30, 2010
Jim Lee's X-men were the best, even because Chris Claremont writings were amazing.
The best duo working on the mutants until I followed their lives...well, something like 10 years ago ^_^
Onslaught was the last event I read ... it was crap enough to kick me out of the Marvel's Multiverse. But I still remember X-Tinction as a pristine comic book.

I'd hit that like a screen door during a hurricane.
crichton101Jun 30, 2010
The costume is, meh, but the origin change is stupid. If they just wanted to change the costume, fine, whatever, but now they feel the need to make her "urban". That is just stupid.

tgc1Jun 30, 2010
The Gods are out of ideas.
blooieJun 30, 2010
If you gonna change something, change it for the better. It's kinda lame in design. As others have said, very 90's, a bit dated. Clearly Jim Lee needs to brush up on his fashion sense. As 'dated' as the original clothes were, they are iconic and stand the test of time. This design - not so much.
rizzosbackJun 30, 2010
I don't really care about Wonder Woman, but in general, f**k J. Michael Straczynski and all his s**tty books, tv shows and comics.
He gave us years of the s**ttiest Amazing Spider-Man in decades.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
frequentflyerJun 30, 2010

warlok480Jun 30, 2010
there too much nerd love for him because of Babylon 5, but I was never too impressed with Bab5 -- yes it was a different take on sci fi but they couldn't find viewers so they muddled along before finally dying, and love them or hate them, LOST and Heroes have shown the viewers are out there. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
anixmanderJun 30, 2010
You obviously know nothing about B5 then. The show never "muddled" along before dying, it had a specific 5 year story arc, and when that was done, so was the series. It didn't die, it ended. Deliberately by design.
earthforce1Jul 2, 2010
Why? He gave us Babylon 5, the best Sci-Fi in recent times.
darkphenoxJun 30, 2010
Why did she steal Superboy's leather jacket?
brenisaJun 30, 2010
Love the 80s shoulder pads. good times, good times. And if she doesn't have a date, she could pass for spidey's girl.
warlok480Jun 30, 2010
I liked her outfit in :Justice League : The New Frontier" the DC Animated Video....it looked like battle armor with a classy skirt...so she looked more like a female spartan warrior than a star spangled bikini babe.
Someone stated she looks too much like Black Canary - gotta agree there. Both costume and concept scream Black Canary.
This new look is ok, but as an above poster said, it'll be 'back' to what it was given time, and thats sad too, as Wonder Woman and Superman both really need an update that sticks (Batman is always updating and always looks good, generally)
frequentflyerJun 30, 2010
I'm pretty sure she wears Victoria Secret under that costume.
chesdougJun 30, 2010
Everything on the costume looks fine except the jacket. Just doesn't look comfortable nor functional.

No interest in reboot/revisioning of WW. Don't care who's writing, no reboots!
Why not just create your own new character rather than make me feel like I wasted all the time invested in reading the last 20 years of something.

That sound you hear is me not caring.
I love Wonder Woman. But this is nonsense. The costumes should have changed a long time ago. This is more a gimmick to help push some more books. Like killing off Captain America a few years back. Just nonsense. I've been in comics a LONG f**kin' time. And I love it. I love it all. But seriously, this s**t is getting old. To be honest, I don't think the new costume is really that great either. If that's what they came up with, they should have stuck with the old one.
Many characters need costume updates, but to me it seems like they should have done that decades ago. Improving the costumes with time. Like Batman. He's gone from the gray spandex bulls**t to something more dark and brooding and reflective of his roll in Gotham. But whatever. There's just no questioning things at DC and Marvel these days. They know what they're doing. I'm just some chump who's got hundreds of these damned books all over the place.
But I don't collect 1/10th as much as I used to. Mostly because the stories these days are repeated endlessly, and I can sense the desperation pouring from the top. Comics these days are more about trying to prepare themselves for licensing deals with things like movies, action figures, games and the likes. Comics have become cliche. Just repeats of the same old s**t. Same Bat thing, same bat channel.
Don't get me wrong. I love comics dearly. And I owe keeping my virginity until my early 20's for that. I didn't so much find myself a social outcast as I chose to literally stay in the god damned basement reading comics for half my life. If that's not dedication, I don't know what is. But you're not hear for my life story. The costume is a meh. Like todays comics are a meh.
You want to try something funny? Go to the comic book store, see how many Wolverine covers are out this month. I'd just about fall over if it were under 5.

Absolutely terrible. New costume is so ugly, it'll make me not want to read the comics.
If the new Wonder Woman movie uses this costume instead of the classic, it'll be an epic failure just like that Chun-Li movie.
WW is ruined.
neomark627Jun 30, 2010
I like the new costume, I think it is a vast improvement. Her old costume made her look more like an American themed stripper than a superhero.
However, I am less enthusiastic about the storyline changes; it reminds me too much of the 1970s Wonder Woman when she was powerless. Part of what makes Wonder Woman cool is the fact that she can nearly match Superman in a fight. If they weaken her it will remove the most powerful female icon in the DC universe.
