Jimi Hendrix had a band. That band's name was The Jimi Hendrix Experience. I'm sure someone more learned in 70s rock and such could prove something wrong about that statement but that's the gist of it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
I only listen to contemporary classical music. Not everyone listens to everything you've listened to. I don't even care about Hendrix. I'd rather listen to Glenn Gould.
Music is one of the most important and influential shapers of global society and culture, and always has been. It also unites people like nothing else in existence. You really shouldn't discount its impact on the world around us.
What's mediocre is based solely on opinion; complicated music is not necessarily better music. Johnny Cash's songs were the simplest of songs. That said, twenty years from now, the generation who listened to Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber will be saying the current music trend of that time will be, "mediocre."
hendrix wasnt complicated... he just thought outside of the box... his chord progressions were nothing new and his soloing consisted of basic pentatonic and blues scales... it was the sonic mastery that made him so revolutionary... what he did with feedback and excessive overdrive... the wah and fuzz pedals were made because of him... he changed the face of music with the way he played... the way he voiced his chords and his total reconstruction of r&b music... i guarantee you i could pick any modern band at random and the chances of their guitarists being influence by hendrix are very high...
I don't think this is the era of the most mediocre music of all time. Out there are really good, creative musicians, the problem today is that there is just too much music to choose from.
I didn't get it (now I know), but this has little to do with knowledge or taste in music, as a piano player. For example, if there was a joke about Chopin's scherzi, would you think you'd get it? Or about the three B's? There is just too much music (and knowledge in general) to know everything. And don't come telling me that you were not born in the Chopin era, 'cause many of us were not born in the Hendrix era.
Sure, I didn't get the joke at first. Then again, I was never exposed to his music, nor have I exposed myself to it. I prefer to find less common music, especially because of the personal feeling that comes along with it.
Today while I was at chapter's letting my kid play with the cool train set they have there, I saw a Justin Bieber book. It even had a poster and "cute" stickers. I almost bought it so I could plaster my friends laptop with them, but stopped when I realized I would have to be seen buying a Justin Bieber book.
Interviewer's question: Nice resume, Mr. Hendrix but are you experienced?
Jimi's answer: Let me prove you... trumpets and violins I can hear in the distance, I think they are calling our names.
Jimi's other answer: *Crazy guitar solo
I just posted a 3 day old digg front page link to reddit. Go back there and see if you can find which one it is. Have a nice day, dickwad.
btw diggers, it only takes a few seconds to create a reddit account. If you want to submit an old digg story to reddit, may I suggest diggsearch a "css tutorial". By the looks of their site design, they could use one.
To everyone who doesn't get this: Consider this a PSA and go f**king download Jimi Hendrix's discography (or at LEAST just The Jimi Hendrix Experience's discography) and get to listening.
Personally, I think the "Band of Gypsies" album is some of his best work, but that's just me. I love it all, far beyond any other rock music of all time.
I'd rather download Jimi, as all the money he posthumously makes goes to a woman who isn't even a blood relative, yet his own brother was left pennyless.
