Well, this is just more anecdotal evidence, but I just got back from a two-month stay in China and can confirm that the Chinese really do love Edelweiss and Backstreet Boys. As for My Heart Will Go On, that is practically China's national anthem.

I'm of Chinese descent. I remember my parents buying a CD of Chinese top songs for 2007 or something like that, and apparently the top song in 2007 on the Chinese charts was a rap song titled "Listen to what your mother says". And it wasn't sarcastic. The whole song was about how you should listen to your mother, how learning the ABCs was more important than playing games, etc.
