I am saying that most of the student brought in for reasons of "diversity" are socially and educationally disadvantaged coming from a poor educational environment with little to no idea of how to work in an integrated environment nor have they ever been taught effective study skills and have little concept of personal responsibility. It is not about how smart they are, but how prepared for the rigor of college level classes and the social responsibility to study instead of party. I would love to see more inner city students thrive in a collegiate environment, but I feel that until the social aspects of their college stay are taken care of in addition to remedial classes to make up for their poor educational environment most students coming into such programs will not succed. However, it is not politically correct to say that the inner city students have a broken social structure (caused in large part by the government paying more for irresponsible social behavior), therefore, it will not likely be properly addressed.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=col ...biologically speaking, slight racial differences do exists. the problem start when someone thinks their race is superior because of these differences. yes we have a half black president, but he fact is racism still exists in our institutions and employers, there no point in ignoring it.

It's a very PC term. I only use it when I'm in front of my PC.

this is a bad view though because it marginalizes so much cultural and ethnic heritage.

Go to a University in Sydney, Australia. White Australians are a minority. We already have a ethnically diverse city as it is, then we get thousands of students coming from Asia paying top dollar to study at our Universities.

I don't really agree with you about feeling like you can't say the phrase "black people", I've never felt it was wrong. In fact if you say African-American to a black person they are probably more likely to feel awkward than if you say "black".I used to know a chick who said anytime a white person uses the phrase "African-American" you can tell they don't have any black friends.

Laws do not change how racist poeple think or act. The difference between a black African who MIGRATED from Africa today and most natural-born African Americans is SLAVERY, and then the Jim Crow laws, etc,etc (fyi many of the black African's ancestors sold the others into slavery and they know it!! They sold the smaller groups who did not hold a lot of power in their area for profit. The migrants today still discriminate against native-born black americans). But no one wants to talk about the damage SLAVERY does to generations and generations -- selling people into harsh slavery, forcing them to give up their religion, culture, language, constantly separating the families and selling them off like cattle, killing people who TRIED to educate themselves. No one want to talk about the PEOPLE WHO DEFENDED SLAVERY AND JIM CROW LAWS and discrimination, the PEOPLE and their families who held and still hold positions of power. The laws that this country was founded on DID NOT INCLUDE SLAVES, an ammendment had to be added. And, no people did not just fall in line just because of that ammendment. READ HISTORY. Did we forget that we even had a need for a civil rights movement just 30 years ago??!! The people that fought AGAINST it are still alive today, their generations following the same beliefs, their policies, neighborhoods, businesses and schools unchanged. It became easier for many blacks to self-segregate than to have to constantly fight to be treated as human beings in areas where they were minorities or where they had NO POWER (which was everywhere). And lets not even get started on how social policies are designed and operated in blatantly racist ways because again, laws do not change how racist people think or act! But most folks don't know or even SEE it unless they are the ones being discriminated against. To them IT DOESN"T EXIST. Like, police brutality didn't exist until someone finally caught it on tape AND put it on the news, but black folks have been speaking about it for YEARS before that. Not to mention the fact that even to THIS DAY there are unspoken rules separating black and whites in many parts of the country, especially the South. People need to wake up and stop commenting on a race with whom you have no real contact or real discussions.
