Concentrate Mae! Quit bobbing your head around! People are going to look at this 90 yrs from now and wonder what you're on.

I always love seeing really old pictures and films in color. It makes that time seem so much more real to me.
Say what you want about colorization and the colorizing of old footage, but seeing things in black and white detaches you from the material so much that I think in many cases adding color is a wise decision.
When you think of Adolf Hitler, do you see colors? I don't. I see a grey man in grey clothing in front of grey people. That doesn't make him seem that real to me.
shieldwolfAug 25, 2010
There are color movies of Hitler FYI: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WePTBgi9rXs

Yeah I know, I love when those are on TV. Its just that the vast majority of them are in B&W. It was kind of wild the first time I saw him in color. I was like: "the uniform is brown?"

Cool reminder that standards of beauty and fitness change over time.
juniorbAug 25, 2010
Those women are attractive, no matter what the era.

Beautiful! Anyone know what the music is?
theobviouschildAug 25, 2010
Yeah, I really enjoyed that music too. Would love to know what it is.
cedexAug 25, 2010
Isn't there an app for that?
boejanglesAug 25, 2010
No, however the second song after the 2 minute mark reminds me of a happy version of NIN songs,
e.g. : "Right where it belongs", or "A warm place"
If you subbed out the music, they fit in a creepy way.

In a 80 years will people be watching a similar clip about 3D with clips showing the girls from Avatar and making similar comments?
evange106Aug 25, 2010
Avatar is not the first 3d film.
whitegripesAug 25, 2010
It's interesting to me how the models posed back then compared to now.
biglouAug 25, 2010
That looks better quality than many YouTube videos.

Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
the4thaggieAug 25, 2010
Strange. I, for some reason, feel that these women are more attractive than 98% of all the women I've seen on modern print and screen media.
slackdragonAug 25, 2010
I realize this film test was from the early 20's, but it's always been my opinion that women back in 40's were amazing looking. Just the way they took care of themselves appearance-wise. The hair, dress and general decorum shreds anything nowadays.
Hell, if the sensibility of wearing a hat and suit every time we went out as men came back into fashion, I wouldn't complain.

Weird how he producer of the film was James Cameron's great grandfather....
volaitle86Aug 25, 2010
creepy
zoshchenkoAug 25, 2010
The acting is truly excellent, but I was having a hard time following the plot.
stevieraveonAug 25, 2010
I love how on the actual youtube page you can watch a 480p version....like it matters.
lunarparcelAug 25, 2010
Very cool stuff, but I was still left with the odd feeling that I need to copy this on to VHS and share it with other people and make them watch it, or else some creepy, long-haired girl is going to crawl out of a well in my TV set and kill me with horrific fright.

By the way, I have a phone message for you. It just said "Seven Diggs". No idea what that means.
praystationAug 25, 2010
This is the perfect tribute to the film cameras now living out its final years as we move onto digital formats nearly a century later. For me, MPEG could never replace the soul of film reels.
RIP

Kodachrome, R.I.P.
marogerAug 25, 2010
As a photographer, no matter what anyone says, nothing beats the quality of real film. Its limits were its palette and its soul. One of the reasons there was such beauty in film was its random clumping of silver particles- something that digital will not be able to mimic until fractals are incorporated into the digital camera firmware. Right now only digital enlarging software makes use of those algorithms. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

What did this blog add to that movie?
Nothing.
bluebirdgmAug 25, 2010
Color? Meh. It'll never catch on. It doesn't look realistic enough, it's too expensive to upgrade my equipment, and everyone else is just fine with black and white. It's just another gimmick for the movie studios and theaters to make more money off of us.

No, but anyone remember when Digg didn't suck (like yesterday)?
Sorry to comment-bomb this discussion but this new layout for Digg sucks balls. Can't find anything and half the pages won't load or produce errors.
