Hey! Nice Doogie. Not hating or anything but didn't I hear somewhere that he was a homosexual?
laurenelderAug 16, 2010
http://www.buddytv.com/articles/how-i-met-your-mother/neil-patrick-harris-discusses-5939.aspx
Yep!
bobosmitorAug 16, 2010
I do not know where I have been. I didn't know he was gay.
xgrillAug 16, 2010
But Barney Stinson said no kids until you are 45! http://www.cbs.com/primetime/how_i_met_your_mother/community/barney_blog/index.php
tgjerusalemAug 17, 2010
Oh yea, he's gay. That's why his partner/co-parent is named David :)
808atheistAug 17, 2010
Hell if you can tell with all the girls named Chris etc. Worse in hollywood you get all these brats trying to be special with names like "Oh, I'm Jack, its short for Jackie, but call me Jack. Its soooo now"Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
revchris2Aug 17, 2010
I immediately filled in the summary "Neil Patrick Harris and his longtime partner David Burtka will have their hands full later this year. The actor confirmed the pair are expecting twins.... they are expected to arrive via fed-ex by Friday."
Congrats to the new parents! Hopefully the kids get some of the talent.
numbskiAug 17, 2010
Of course, I filled it in with "...they are expected to arrive in skimpy lingerie..."
But hey, whatever. (yes, I knew he was gay, but he does play the character...)Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

It's true. He was born that way.
spiderman0505Aug 16, 2010
who else didn't know he was gay?
laurenelderAug 16, 2010
and who else don't care what his preference is at this point in his life?
amadeus2490Aug 17, 2010
It isn't a preference.
/nitpicking
skyfyreAug 17, 2010
So it would be an incorrect statement to say that "He prefers men?"
stephendAug 17, 2010
Sure it is - it is a biologically dictated preference for one gender over another.
tmanvAug 17, 2010
Haha it's just that it's surprising when all you've seen of him lately is him playing himself in Harold and Kumar, and then as Barney.
jjremyAug 17, 2010
tmanv: That's part of the joke.
blizzardwaveAug 17, 2010
hate to nitpick, but "orientation" would be more appropriate. again, hate to nitpick
wagnerianAug 17, 2010
Yeah it's an orientation. Preference implies choice. It's a bit of a sticky political issue. The nuance matters in this case.
mweatherAug 17, 2010
"So it would be an incorrect statement to say that "He prefers men?""
Would it be incorrect to say you prefer women? No? So you've tried sex with men?
ps3meAug 17, 2010
I love to nitpick! Who else doesn't care about what his personal preferences are at this point? The closest way of saying it properly using your own words.
chofstoneAug 17, 2010
Right on, I plan on watching his movies and TV show, not on f**king him. So I don't care. Nor do I care about his future kids, they are none of my business.

csdcoAug 16, 2010
I had no idea, but reading the above comments it's a good point that it's not my business. Interesting, after having Hollywood throw everything in my face for 25 years I suddenly find myself complaining that I wasn't spoon fed the sexual preference of Doogie Howser.
ed3839Aug 17, 2010
He came out of the closet shortly after the first Harold and Kumar movie (in which he was clearly very hetero while playing 'himself' sort of.)
talahramaAug 17, 2010
I think this is one of the very few times where his sexual orientation actually matters if just for making his cameos in Harold and Kumar that much more hilarious.
joejitsuAug 17, 2010
It doesn't bother me that he is gay, but I always assumed he was straight by the roles he played.
avsfan1Aug 17, 2010

More to him, I certainly didn't know. Before white castle, I had this image of a genius kid in my mind. Then, a coke snorting whore of a man driving down a road with titties everywhere in white castle. This has been my image of him since. No matter, now I know that if he's on set with a really hot actress, my chances are now 999999 to 1 instead of 1000000 to 1. I've got a chance.

rreadysetnoAug 16, 2010
pretty sure twins aren't twins when each child has a separate father.
verbist18Aug 16, 2010
I heard that one's a boy and one's a girl, which would make them fraternal twins, so yeah, they could have separate fathers.
isendreAug 16, 2010
Not sure if it's the case with NPH, but I've heard of situations where the men each give a sample, then the samples are mixed before the surrogate is impregnated. So they wouldn't really know whose children they are biologically. He and his partner look similar so they might not be able to tell after the kids are born without a paternity test.

zerocubedAug 17, 2010
It's common for gay couples to either switch off on each instance, or to combine semen.
Closed AccountAug 17, 2010
I never thought about this before, but if they separated what would the custody deal be? Let's say one of them is the biological father of both twins, what happens to the non-father, does he get any custody? I mean, he'd have no biological relation, so wouldn't he be more of a stepfather? Is that legally worked into the surrogate arrangement?
maybemableAug 17, 2010
it'd be an adoption situation so as far as I know, all else being equal, the biological father would only have an advantage at the discretion of an unprofessional judge.
yosafbridgeAug 17, 2010
Especially considering that most gay couples mix their sperm beforehand so that there is no way for them to know which one will be the biological father without a paternity test. They're BOTH the biological father in their minds.
elwoodbluesAug 16, 2010

hergioAug 17, 2010
Agreed, but did you ever stop to think its because gay couples actually have to not be idiots to go through the long and arduous process of obtaining children? It can't just accidentally happen like it can for heterosexuals. If gay couples could have kids as easily as straight couples, you'd have just as many idiot gay parents.
But anywho, agreed, happy for him!

yosafbridgeAug 17, 2010
Yeah, it sounds sort of hypocritical, but that's just how Hollywood works. He kept it a secret for as long as he thought he could all the way up to the pregnancy, and now he has to inform people before someone in the press gets wind of what is going on.
He's gone through this before with his sexuality, when he realises that someone is poking around in his life he goes on the offensive and is very open about whatever it is that the paparazzi wants so that the press doesn't get the first go at the story and get all the details wrong.
thedudediggsAug 16, 2010

tgjerusalemAug 17, 2010
He's a real star, can play characters totally foreign to his real personality and make them believable.
And I think he may be the only openly gay leading man star around right now. Even great actors like Ian McKellen are more character stars, but NPH can play the straight male romantic lead (or straight male jackass), and take his partner to accept his awards for it.
orangetideAug 17, 2010
I'm straight and I would have a great deal of difficulty playing a womanizer. It would feel very unnatural to me.
byikesAug 17, 2010
He did great work in the Harold and Kumar movies.
chuckdontsurfAug 17, 2010
When I watched 'Six Feed Under," I had no idea that Michael C. Hall was straight. So yeah, I guess it's the acting thing.
worldofsmutAug 17, 2010
What were they feeding under again?
somnambulatorAug 17, 2010
Dude
Being gay doesn't mean hating the opposite sex, it's just about preference. In fact most gay guys I know love women in a way that some straight guys couldn't begin to understand.
That means a lot of gay guys are probably *better* at womanizing.
tiakAug 17, 2010
Womanizing tends not to be so much about actually liking women...
cpmartinAug 17, 2010
Oh what you said was so gay.
somnambulatorAug 17, 2010
Some gay men are very good at attracting a lot of women, some of which think that they're the one that can f**k the gay out of the guy.
Most straight guys can only dream about getting that sort of attention.
spicychickadeeAug 16, 2010

I'd rather two gay fathers who love their kid versus a straight couple who neglects or does a s**t job with them.
Fact is, sexual identity doesn't mean s**t when it comes to loving a child.
coolhandremyAug 17, 2010
Kind of a false choice there. Not saying it's the case, but they could end up neglecting and doing a s**t job too.
tdogg241Aug 17, 2010
But it's **much** less likely they will be neglectful since two gay men will not get accidentally pregnant and have an unwanted child.

younastyyAug 17, 2010
what was the need of personal attack? Closet homosexual perhaps? Either way its obvious my comments struck a nerve. last time i checked being gay was a lifestyle. But with all these privately funded scientific studies and imaginary claims that kids raised in gay homes turn out normal people have been brainwashed.
just because i feel that a child should be raised by a man and a woman like its supposed to be no matter how you look it at. I'm viewed as backwards and that's fine. Gay sex is the dirtiest and easiest way for STDs to spread. The lifestyle in general is wrong and I could care less if i'm ostracized for believing so.

byikesAug 17, 2010
The science of what makes a person homosexual is still undecided but starting to stack up against you. It defiantly doesn't come from your "gut feeling". Even if if turns out to be proven to be a choice, are you going to chose to ban a child that needs someone in this world someone that wants to care for a child? That is just crazy.

moderntenshiAug 17, 2010

No guy, in his right mind, would wake up one day and say, "I feel like sucking dick for the rest of my life."
That isn't to say gays are in a wrong state of mind, but seriously, I don't think any man would choose to be gay.

I don't know. Have you seen Val lately?
blackstaffAug 17, 2010
Two dudes 'expecting' twins? Only Neil Patrick Harris can make the impossible, possible. He's LEGEN-wait for it-DARY.
grandpamunsterAug 17, 2010
NPH is making love stains in your car, I love that movie.
tgjerusalemAug 17, 2010
<3 the NPH, and I bet they're going to be absolutely friggin' beautiful kids.
And among celebrities NPH seems to be a remarkably well adjusted, decent guy. Don't know much about his partner but I'm sure he's similar. It's so great to have a growing number of openly gay stars who are such good role models, both for gay kids who see people like themselves having strong and long lasting partnerships and raising families (and seeing that gay life doesn't end at 30), and for straight people who may not know many gay families in their real lives.
monkeynachoAug 17, 2010
Well said! I wish I could digg your comment twice :)
groovydooAug 17, 2010
I am sure they are both gentlemen and quite capable of raising a family but sometimes I think movie stars collect babies like they were puppies.

You give them wayyyyyyyy too much credit. In Hollywood...the more dysfunctional you are, the more attention you get.
tgjerusalemAug 17, 2010
Of major actors NPH has been remarkably well adjusted, with a stable and respected career and a committed relationship with David. These are their first children, and they had no way of knowing they would be twins. Why even bring up the family dysfunctions of some other actors, when Neil and David show absolutely no signs of being similar?
slartibartphastAug 17, 2010
The did it doogie style.
Boy I don't envy them, so which one is going through with the rectal birth?
kaiosamaAug 17, 2010
I just got a face-full of bulls**t reading your post. So odds are, your mom did.
usuckatlifeAug 17, 2010
hahahaha nice!
krandenAug 17, 2010
Its funny because I clicked on this link not knowing who either of these guys were, and the first thing that came to my mind is these guys are gay.
bloodwineAug 17, 2010
You never heard of Doogie Howser? Shame on thee!
Neil Patrick Harris has done a lot of great, entertaining roles.
Doogie Howser
Military Scientist in Starship Troopers
Dr. Horrible in Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog
He is probably currently best known for being Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother.
krandenAug 17, 2010
The only one I recognize now is Doogie Howser, I guess I just didn't know who he was, that was a good movie.
maybemableAug 17, 2010
Dr Horrible is on youtube. (it was on hulu last year, dunno about now). Watch it and fall in love with NPH. Either in a gay way or not, whichever suits.
bubbashineAug 17, 2010
It's a f-in sausage fest in here.
dieindiggAug 17, 2010
seriously, lot's of gay going on

Disgusting....
You have to pity the "twins". They have about a 1% chance of not growing up to be dysfunctional wards of the state.
garhentAug 17, 2010
Haha. Right, the kids hit the jackpot. You will never be able to provide for your kids as those kids will be provided for.
Its more like the kids are in the upper 1% of the Nation for financial stability.

malexAug 17, 2010
Actually, Children of gay couples have a very strong statistical tendency to grow up healthy, happy and well cared for. Probably because most gay people have to go through so much additional effort.
You don't have to approve of two men being in love, Diggreiver, but you shouldn't let your self-righteous, priggish, ignorant bigotry get in the way of reality.
kaiosamaAug 17, 2010
There are kids born into poor single parent families, kids born to live in foster homes with no parents, millions of kids born in the most impoverished countries on earth, and kids born with crippling disabilities that'll never allow them to live a full/healthy life.
Keep your bigotry to yourself, and save your pity for those kids.
Neal's kids will be growing up in the lap of luxury with *two* parents (both of whom fantastic and wildly successful).
If anything you should be envying these kids. I know I do.
mikeoxbiggAug 17, 2010
When I was two my biological father took an extension chord and threatened to choke my mom with it. Afraid, she locked herself in the bathroom so I got it across the back instead.
Thank God there was no queersexuality going on in that house, right? That could have severely messed me up.
nudarAug 17, 2010
So because you can give an example of a messed up heterosexual couple, kids should be raised by two dads?
mikeoxbiggAug 17, 2010
Yes, that's exactly what I was saying. On an unrelated note, did you drink the stuff under the sink as a child?
The point of my example, which you'd think would be obvious, was that heterosexual or homosexual; it really doesn't matter in providing the children with the stability and nurturing that they need.
Being raised by a father and mother does not a stable environment make. Being raised by two (or one) loving and nurturing parent(s) does.
sprucecabooseAug 17, 2010
No. Because someone can have a f**ked up childhood is not a good enough reason to bar someone else from having kids on the *chance* that they could also have a f**ked up childhood.
There is no "perfect" parent, and someone's sexual orientation does not make them a better or worse parent. Some people are great parents, some are terrible. It is the same across all preferences.
mhugginsAug 17, 2010
Sorry for your difficulty in growing up bro, but good for you for thriving and succeeding despite it all. I know that's not the point of what you wrote, but still...
hivoltage815Aug 17, 2010
I completely agree with what you are arguing. But the fact that you ended up going to Harvard makes your anecdote a a poor example of a heterosexual household destroying a kid. Just wanted to point that out.
Good for you though.
mikeoxbiggAug 17, 2010
Thanks.
Though to be fair I have a pretty severe fetish about being choked. And no, I'm not kidding...just enjoying internet anonymity.
malexAug 18, 2010
Well, just as long as you don't go all David Carradine on us.
redmo0nAug 17, 2010
It's a pity you fell into that 1% diggreiver
esperoboyAug 17, 2010
I'm just sad that you had a horrible parents to make you grow up like this
peck3277Aug 17, 2010
I doubt NPH will be the biological parent. The worlds just not ready to handle that much awesome.
spacem00seAug 17, 2010
I'm glad some kids found a home and all, but anyone get the feeling that if they weren't actors (one of them more famous), they probably wouldn't have been able to adopt? Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
bloodwineAug 17, 2010
As far as I am concerned, the kids won the jackpot. NPH seems like a generally nice guy and down-to-Earth.
My wife's coworker has a PhD and a very stable job but they won't let her adopt because she is too old (her and her husband are in their late 40s). She would make a great home for some orphans, but the system won't allow it.
Then you hear so many stories of people who adopt many, many kids for the money and treat the house full of foster kids like s**t. I don't know how common bad foster families are, but I fear it is somewhat common.
I don't understand all the crazy rules and loopholes, but any kid who can get the hell out of foster care is a lucky kid in my opinion.
ltpenguinAug 17, 2010
They aren't adopting. The twins are from a surrogate mother. One of them is the biological father.
spacem00seAug 17, 2010
Visiting a surrogate center can mean he either donated the sperm, selected sperm from another donor or selected from a client list of newly pregnant clients.
You could be right, but a single report of visiting a surrogate center last year means nothing, plus only the tabloids are reporting that.
tgjerusalemAug 17, 2010
Neil and David live in California, which has a second-parent adoption procedure designed for same-sex couples. It allows a gay parent to adopt their partner's child without their partner having to terminate custody first, even though they aren't married.
This allows both parents to have full legal custody of the child, though it doesn't happen automatically the way it does for straight married couples who adopt or have children with the assistance of a surrogate.
