I hope they don't jump the shark this time. Harold and Kumar was somewhat believable. They were just two ordinary guys on a supposedly simple quest.
In the second movie, they ceased being ordinary, they became too outrageous. The CIA, and especially Gitmo did not fit in the atmosphere created by the first movie.

I enjoy both. However I do agree with you. The first one is more light hearted. However they do escape from jail in the first movie and ride a cougar. That is pretty outrages.

I don't quite know the timeline between when he came out and when he first portrayed himself in the movies. That might have something to do with it, but at the same time he's not really portraying himself. He's portraying a loveable former child actor who is the exact opposite of the image he projected as a child. But not in a bad way. The first and second movie were known for their unexpected crazy randomness and how crazy and random would it be to randomly pick up a hitchhiker and have it turn out to be doogie howser on X.

Hopefully Kumar isn't a total dick in this one. There seems to be a new theme that buddy pictures have to have a large portion of the movie where they don't get along. How cares if they are friends at the end or if they have some lame fight at the 3/4 mark.
Pineapple Express: A buddy movie in which Dale acts like he isn't and then tell Saul that he isn't his friend.
Role Models - Danny was a prick to Wheeler until the last two minutes and was pretty much a s**tty friend.
48 Hrs - Cates wouldnt let Reggie get laid and he was pretty much a racist who treated his woman like s**t.
Training Day - Alonzo makes him smoke PCP laced with weed at gun point and pays some 'Vatos to nighty night his ass. This seemed more like a crime drama than a buddy pic but any movie with Snoop Dogg and Macy Gray has to be a comedy right?
A couple of dicks: Couldn't bring myself to see the mighty Bruce fall so far and Kevin Smith purely directing as in he was hired only to direct...once again he directed something he didn't write because someone hired him to. I mean how many guys could have said, put the camera right here at eye level and don't move it. Guessing Tracy Morgan was kinda a dick or maybe both they were thus the name.
