Say what you want about Iron Mike, but say he's candid, honest, interesting, and intelligent. A sociopath, to be sure, but he's healing.....
joculatorAug 16, 2010
The interview/documentary about him changed my opinion of him quite a bit, but you have to admit - the guy's got problems.
derangedpenguinAug 16, 2010
More importantly he admits he has problems.
eshinnAug 16, 2010
I feel terrible. Whenever I hear about the Kid Dynamite I still think of this and chuckle:

Tyson is an excellent example how much a role a person's upbringing and surroundings shapes them into the person they eventually become. He is still a horrible human being and there are no excuses what he has done in the past, but I respect his efforts to try and turn his life around. Hopefully, he is able to leave behind a lot of the events that turned him into a psychopath and become a good person.
I feel very fortunate that I was lucky enough to be raised in a good family, since if I were raised in the same neighborhood as Tyson with a lack of parental guidance I wouldn't be the sane individual I am today. I may very well have been dealing drugs, be in prison, or be dead.
rudegarAug 16, 2010
a sociopath can by definition not be healed it's not what you'd call an illness
CSA4everAug 16, 2010
Tyson always needed a good role model or mentor. Until going into recovery, he never had good direction. As bad as he can seem, many of his notorious incidents were just over reactions to provocation. I hope he continues to make it and that he sticks with the winners.

You know, people say, "My god is better than your god." But how do we prove whose god is better?
Human being are better than GOD
random314Aug 16, 2010
Mike does it by knocking you out.
thatebayerAug 16, 2010
human beings*

God*
Capitalised.
Not god.
drgt1987Aug 16, 2010
There is no God but God and human beings, as everything else what exists, are created and ruled by God so anyone who tries to compare humans and God is pretty stupid human being. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

“I want to throw down your kid and stomp on his testicles, and then you will know what it is like to experience waking up everyday as me. And only then will you feel my pain.”

I want to eat your children.
smokeydabearAug 16, 2010
So you're saying the pain my child will receive getting his nuts crushed isn't as painful as your personal pain?
eshinnAug 16, 2010
"I want to throw down the ref and bite your ear off and then you will know what it is like to experience listening up everyday as me. And only then will you hear my pain"

No one ever said Tyson is problem free, but i will say this about the man... We really have no idea what he had to go though in his youth really. I mean yeah we heard his story in that "Tyson" movie a year or so back, however i couldn't have imagined living through what he did and be a sane person. Truly one of the most interesting people in the world, no question, well at least to me he is.
chikenshitAug 16, 2010
He doesn't trust anyone, that's why he can't form healthy relationships, as evidenced by his childhood, druggy mom
ewaffleAug 16, 2010
He's still got it.
ampledismantleAug 16, 2010
God would probably use proper grammar.
krahzeeAug 16, 2010
Tyson always bums me out. As dominant as he was, he could have been even greater if he wasn't surrounded by "yes" men and Don King after Cus died. They took advantage of an uneducated, barely literate (Tyson didn't learn to read well until prison). They used him up financially and then discarded him. It's sad such a strong fighter was so weak with those in his personal life...
mhf03Aug 17, 2010
His mentality towards fighting was his downfall. His belief that he was invincible led to him not caring about being in peak physical condition, and he started to underestimate his opponents. Any professional fighter if given one good shot can knock you out.
Later on it seemed Tyson went from striving to be the champion to becoming insecure and losing the fire he once had for the sport. He started abusing himself even more, and didn't even attempt to get himself in shape. At the end he just did it for the money and didn't care for the outcome.
As great as Tyson was to start off his career boxing fans really missed out on seeing a player who could have dominated for a long time if he had the right attitude and dedication to training.
derangedpenguinAug 16, 2010
Recovering drug addict once told me, "Religion is for people who are afraid of hell, spirituality is for people who have been through hell." it would sound like Mike Tyson has discovered spirituality.
staticfireAug 16, 2010
I really like that quote a lot.
oxidaneAug 16, 2010
Psychopathy/mental illness is what happens to people who have been through hell and remain there. Spirituality is woo-woo bulls**t.

I didn't expect to hear Iron Mike talking about Clovis and Frankish history.
mitchdishAug 16, 2010
I'd rather hear the audio of this interview than read about it.
frostbytAug 16, 2010
Wow he really let himself go. But he did lose 100 pounds. Keep it up Mike.
mojonandhaAug 16, 2010
The freaking journalist spent 8 hours with Tyson in 2 cities and got only 10 mins worth of stuff? Wat the f**k did he do with the rest of the time?

Tyson is very interesting. People do norealize it but he is very intelligent. Uneducated yes...stupid no.
confuciussayAug 16, 2010
Odd he hasn't mentioned his fetish for ears..
randall814Aug 16, 2010
If anyone has not yet seen the "Tyson" documentary, I invite you to watch it. It is a fantastic view into his life and career. You see "the baddest man on the planet" only to realize he's actually a giant teddy bear. That could f**k you up.
mhf03Aug 17, 2010
It made me realize that people who may seem so intimidating and confident are just as insecure about themselves as everyone else.

bluesmann353Aug 17, 2010
But Mike had solid support from many people in a different environment for years from age 14, then he reverted backwardly. People in the early years of his training and mentoring were not after his money, fame or anything that a famous athlete gains. He tossed those people aside for deals with convicted street thug Don King. So the lesson from Mike to the rest of us is also to be wary of the person with a similar harsh background---they could be dangerous.
mhf03Aug 17, 2010
Yea, tt is difficult to change 14 years of upbringing. He may have gotten his life on track when he was with D'Amato, but when he passed away he started to revert back to his old ways and it the fame, money, and group of people surrounding him didn't help.
While the lesson you got from Mike is to be wary of people with a bad past the lesson I got from him is that people should appreciate what they already have in life. After all, if they had been raised in a different environment they would have been a completely different person compared to who they are right now.
bluesmann353Aug 17, 2010
Mh I don't entirely disagree with you. However what Mike proves is that money is a tool in the hands of the beholder. When the money started pouring in, Mike used that tool for his own ends closer to his roots and early upbringing. The small army of decent people who came to his rescue initially had suddenly become irrelevant to him. So, a bit of isolationism would have been better for them instead of trying to mold a hero out of a brute bound for prison. In court your upbringing is not that relevant if you commit a crime.
gkiltzAug 17, 2010
At least two of the three are something he has had personal experience with. That is more than can be said for most "commentators."
