I blame Clifford
data1001Aug 24, 2010
Martin has always seemed like one of the nicest guys in the world, besides being one of the most genuinely funny entertainers working today. And his & Nancy's 36-year relationship (30 of which were as a married couple) is nothing to sneeze at, especially in Hollywood.
My thoughts are with you, Marty.
effoffpunkAug 25, 2010
Is he still working? What is he up to these days?
My condolences to him and the family.
lmn8rAug 25, 2010
He was absolutely brilliant on the latest season of Damages (which was also brilliant)
treshnellAug 25, 2010
He was nominated for an academy award in Damages, too.
dirtyfriesAug 25, 2010
Also travels doing a show...I saw him in Boston last year. Hilarious.
jordanlgtaAug 25, 2010
Your thoughts don't really help him, but it's nice for you to let everyone know what your doing.
data1001Aug 25, 2010
Wow, snarky much?
As long as you're so against anyone thinking of another, I can pretty much guarantee you this is the last time I'll do so with you. Hope that helps *you*.
nraphaelAug 25, 2010
jord> don't worry about data1001, he's a douche. I'll be thinking about you. Take care.
jordanlgtaAug 25, 2010
Fact is most of you are probably visiting digg while fapping, then saying something nice about Martin Short, and then returning to fapping.
mikeytwitAug 25, 2010
Martin IS one of the nicest guys around. He is a local boy from my town(Hamilton, ON, CANADA), even though he left over 35 years ago for his career, he still considers himself a local boy involved in local charities and community endeavors. He is a class act and has this city's deepest sympathies.
sanmanAug 25, 2010
This is terrible - I used to love those BaaBaa Waawaa skits - she was so funny on SNL
fightyAug 25, 2010
Aww, that's terrible. My heart goes out to Martin and his family. :(
felidaeusAug 25, 2010
Condolences to Martin.
ilfirimainAug 25, 2010
That's quite sad. I've always really liked him. What a horrible thing to have to go through, after being married to her for so long. I can't even imagine. My thoughts are with him.
iwantawiiAug 25, 2010
Life is too short...
mlyzzAug 25, 2010
We're all gonna see Martin in a white Bronco tomorrow.
tsothaAug 25, 2010
Short must be the only guy in Hollywood who didn't trade the wife for a new model. My condolences.
kingnerdAug 25, 2010
Meh, she was a pretty attractive woman. Far more attractive than Short is handsome, but I agree 36yrs in Hollywood is pretty unheard of.
(Tom Hanks' marriage is getting up there as well.)Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

MAAARRRTIIIINNN!!!!!!

Digg me down!
kgbeatsAug 25, 2010
her life was cut short
bawbzillaAug 25, 2010
Seems like cancer got to her in fairly short order.
qazwsAug 25, 2010
Clifford is trying to back again, just to trick us.
azwethinkweizmAug 25, 2010
Who the f**k is Martin Short?
bloodwineAug 25, 2010
You have never seen The Three Amigos?! BLASHPEMY!!
azwethinkweizmAug 25, 2010
Nope.
macjaxAug 25, 2010
He's not famous, he's INfamous!
smemilyAug 25, 2010
I was going to say, "Can I have your watch when you are dead?" but it seems tasteless. I'll go with, "Can I kiss you on the veranda?" "Um.. lips would be fine."
ronpauliskingAug 25, 2010
you damn kids today with your popular music
eddiepotatoAug 25, 2010
He probably hasn't heard of you either.
azwethinkweizmAug 25, 2010
More reason why this isn't news.
archiesteelAug 25, 2010
@az: most diggers seem to disagree with you.
drleephdAug 25, 2010
I guess you could say her life was....
*sunglasses
SHORT-LIVED.
(this totally deserves to be buried).
diggydougieAug 25, 2010
I thought he was gay.
kleon777Aug 25, 2010
Am I supposed to know who this is?
goldiegillsAug 25, 2010
Normally, I don't give a s**t about a celebrity related deaths, but this bummed me out. RIP.
enantiodromiaAug 25, 2010
I think it's pretty generous to call Martin Short an "actor".
He makes anything that he is in terrible.
enantiodromiaAug 25, 2010
You may digg me down but you cannot ignore the truth: he sucks.
miamisunAug 25, 2010
My sympathies go out to the Short family. f**k Cancer! if that indeed caused this. f**k Cancer even if it did not cause this.
jasonkostempskiAug 25, 2010
I'm sorry to hear about this. I know this is really not the point of the story but "Short, best known for his role on Saturday Night Live and the Father of the Bride franchise.", Father of the Bride 'franchise'? Really? Never saw the first one, had no idea there was a second one. Is that really a franchise? What about Glick, Three Amigos, Innerspace, Clifford (creepiest comedy ever), The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley (my all time favorite)? Even his work on Arrested Development would be more relevant.
overlord555Aug 25, 2010
ohh i don't know this guy and thought it said "Martin's short wife dies."
theholotropeAug 25, 2010
I love Martin Short. I wish him the best in these hard times.
qwed88Aug 25, 2010
"Gained fame on Saturday Night Live"?
He was famous before tha,t anyone remember Ed Grimley from SCTV?!....... ......no? damn I'm getting old.
Thats sad to here, The guys awesome RIP
... oh I see someone is old enough
neonevermoreAug 25, 2010
Of course I remember Ed Grimley, I must say
neonevermoreAug 25, 2010
Of course I remember Ed Grimley, I must say.
generalobviousAug 25, 2010
...seriously?
Without reading the article, did any of you know her name?
No? Ok, then why is this news?
data1001Aug 25, 2010
Actually, I did know her name. Nancy played a recurring character on "Soap", one of the most brilliant and subversive television comedies of all time. And her brother, Bob Dolman (who was at one time married to Martin Short's SCTV co-star Andrea Martin), was a writer on SCTV, and also wrote the screenplay for the movie Willow.
But even if that were not the case, I can only attribute the attention this story is getting to the my own feelings, and assume that this is news to certain other people because they feel like they've gotten to know and care for Mr. Short over the years -- as much as anyone can really know or care for someone they've never met, that is.
Forgive me if I'm putting words in your mouth, but perhaps the reason this makes no sense to you is that maybe you're just not the kind of person who would ever feel any connection to someone you haven't met in person... and that's fine. But there are plenty of people who don't need face-to-face contact in order to bridge that gap -- like all the people who have developed close friendships over the Internet, or in earlier days, through being "pen pals" -- who never occupied the same breathing quarters at the same time, and yet felt some sort of kinship with that other person.
Your neighbor's wife's death is certainly also news, just that there may be a lot fewer people to whom it is, since they didn't know the people involved (either in person or through their work). But I'd guess that most folks who knew your neighbor, even in passing, considered that to be news.
It doesn't have to be a competition -- nobody's death is more newsworthy than anyone else's death, except for how it affects one personally or emotionally.

Short lived?
jshhmrAug 25, 2010
I am really hating this "new" digg!! I can't digg anyone, I can't access my profile, this f**king blows. Everything gives me an error.
thesparkleAug 25, 2010
My heart goes out to their family. What a loss...

huggingthecoastAug 25, 2010
Loved him on SCTV and SNL. He was great in the sadly underrated film Mumford too.

The new digg is absolute garbage.
