6502samAug 21, 2010
What?
whomodAug 21, 2010
He's saying that right wingers will only accept logical arguments like Heston's when it is they who are the ones under attack. Not when they're the ones doing the attacking, fear mongering and hysterics.
Seeing as how i've not heard anything but paranoid histrionics coming from the right, i'd have to agree.
bigviAug 22, 2010
They have no problem banning mosques (dont lie, 7 states now are seeing protests) but dont you dare forget to tell them Merry Christmas otherwise you are part of the war on Christmas.
deathweaver108Aug 21, 2010
and dugg for Jon flat out saying "I was wrong"
mochamanAug 21, 2010
Moses bit was awesome, but more importantly I have more respect for Stewart because he had the balls to admit he was wrong then, when the NRA was been vilified for holding their gathering in Colorado after Columbine.
atarioAug 22, 2010
I'm not so sure he was wrong then.
Columbine massacre: Apr 20, 1999; NRA Convention: May 1, 1999. Time elapsed: 11 days.
9/11 attacks: Sep 11, 2001; current manufactured nonsense (not even actually the building date of the community center yet): Aug 22, 2010. Time elapsed: 3,267 days.
Not to mention, the NRA advocates for the availability of the devices which made possible the Columbine attacks, whereas this community center advocates for the availability of basketball courts and cooking classes, which, to the best of my knowledge, in no way contributed to the 9/11 attacks.
Jon said in the clip that being opposed to the community center on sensitivity grounds made a certain amount of sense, but they lose him on the part where they start arguing against it on the grounds that it is really a terrorism command center. I don't remember anyone arguing against the NRA convention based on the idea that it was an event to help plan and encourage more Columbine-like massacres.

Westboro Baptist are Christians. I think it would be in poor taste for any church to ever be built near Arlington Cemetery, since Christian Extremists protest at military funerals with such signs as "Thank God for dead troops".
Do we really know that this church isn't funded by Churches elsewhere? I think an investigation should be done into who funds them. They spend so much money on picketing and travel, it has to be supported from outside.
I wont be satisfied until all churches publicly denounce Fred Phelps. Why haven't we heard of churches publicly denouncing them? Some people don't even know who Westboro Baptist Church is, much less that their church denounced them!
The Christian religion fosters bigoted opinions and way of life. They consider only themselves to be equals, and everyone else is a sinner that's going to burn in hell. I find it very likely that Westboro Baptist Church is displaying hate on the behalf of many other Churches.
This must be investigated.
brettbAug 21, 2010
Stop making blanket generalizations on a very large group of people without proof. I agree wholeheartedly that Fred Phelps and the gaggle of idiots calling themselves Westboro Baptist are a mass of ignorant people because they have proven themselves as such, but saying that every Christian church should denounce Westboro is a bit overboard. Are there Muslims in the world who can cite certain passages of the Koran as to say that the jihad spoken of is a outward, physical war to be waged upon all non-believers? Yes. Well, what about the majority of Islamic people who believe in the inner jihad that focuses on fighting sin in their soul and doing their best to balance out their good-to-evil deed ratio? Do they need to denounce their differently thinking Muslim counterparts? I certainly wouldn't expect them to. Extremism in all aspects is bad; there is no need to punish the masses for the stupidity of the few.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

you either failed to get a joke or you took this opputunity to educate the masses on the different terminology of jihad. both?

I heard a rumor that they are nearly 100% funded by the lawsuits they file against people who touch them while they are picketing. If someone lays a hand on them they immediately cry ASSAULT and sue the living daylights out of the person who touched them.
Could be just a rumor though. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

FOX NEWS is DEFINITELY a Terrorist Command Center.
6502samAug 21, 2010
Yes.
Since Fox gets money from someone who may support terrorism they're pundits are being paid with that money. Which means, Hannity and O'Reilly may be getting terrorist money.
I just have to ask is why is Hannity and O'Rielly accepting terrorist money?

How could anybody on the right argue with the Charleston Heston speech? Say what you want about Stewart, but that Heston speech was an epic win. That even got Stewart to admit he was wrong in 1999. It proves beyond a reasonable doubt that the right has zero credibility on this issue.
daimposterAug 22, 2010
it's interesting that the right has zero credibility on this issue when the strongest case i've heard so far was from a right winger debating the same logic (using different amendment & target though). The right wing just does what is best for their elections. This was not an issue many months ago UNTIL Palin and Newt started chiming in and throwing lies around to create more fear mongering. It's just sad.
particleman420Aug 21, 2010
wow, its even got the brownshirt brigade speechless.
it throws them for a loop when you use their own stuff to prove them wrong.

atarioAug 22, 2010
It won't affect them. It didn't stop them from accusing President Obama of being a wuss when he signed that nuclear reduction treaty despite seeing footage of Reagan, their Ultimate Toughguy, advocating for a completely nuclear-weapon-free world.

but-but-but - outta' context!
(I'm guessing that will be the official response by the anti-Jon Stewart crowd. They seem to always try to float that one when he owns some jackass simply by researching and playing back their own stated positions/comments on an issue)

Bless Jon Stewart for ridiculing stupid US officials & politicians who seems don't know what they are talking about. Things 's just gone crazy in US, Americans should stop panicking and finally see how things really stand, to stop prejudice and open their minds.

Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal is the second largest shareholder to Murdoch of News Corp (Fox News), with 7% holding.
Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal (also spelled Waleed bin Talal) (Arabic: الوليد بن طلال بن عبد العزيز آل سعود; born 7 March 1955) is a member of the Saudi Royal Family. He is the nephew of the Saudi Arabian King Abdullah. An entrepreneur and international investor but without real political power within the House of Saud or in Saudi Arabia, he has amassed a fortune through investments in real estate and the stock market.
As of March 2010, his net worth is estimated at US$19.4 billion, up from $13.3 billion, according to Forbes, making him the 19th richest person in the world on their list published in March 2010.[2] He has been nicknamed by Time magazine as the Arabian Warren Buffett.
In October 2001, following the World Trade Center attacks, New York mayor Rudy Giuliani turned down a $10 million donation from Al-Waleed for disaster relief after the prince suggested the United States "must address some of the issues that led to such a criminal attack," and "re-examine its policies in the Middle East." However, Giuliani interpreted his statements as drawing "a moral equivalency between liberal democracies like the United States, like Israel, and terrorist states and those who condone terrorism."

Hey, but Fox News and News corporation are on the right side ... right?

I'm a political independent who, not by choice, has to put up with fox news being on 24/7 at my place of employ.
I used to watch the channel willingly, about 6 or 7 years ago. I could clearly tell there was a slight right-leaning presence, but I never felt they were going out of their way to scare me into a certain belief.
Fast-forward to today. Even over my lunch break where I only see a half hour of "America's Newsroom" (one of Fox's self-labeled actual "news" programs - not opinion) I come away having been informed about 3 or 4 reasons why I should be afraid of the POTUS or some person that's not white or some "socialist" idea. What scares me is that a stunning number of my co-workers simply eat this stuff up. They comment about how they "knew Obama was a crook" or "see what THOSE people are capable of?" I do my best to try and point out the most egregious logical fallacies that are presented, but I'm often just met with responses like "no one wants to hear from you, socialist" (I mentioned I was a political independent, yeah?)
The bottom line is that it shouldn't take a comedian talking on comedy central to get this point across. We need republican leaders in high places to step up and do exactly what Stewart just did. Admit you were wrong. Admit to us how you use Fox to push your fear-mongering agenda. Earn your votes by garnering people's respect and by presenting solid ideals, not by sleazy manipulation tactics on the ignorant and giving lip-service to issues you don't care about like abortion and gay marriage to the religious. (Did I mention I was a Christian too?)

It was a great speech. Most diggers are liberal it seems and i a republican. Where we need to come together is understanding that our government takes our liberty away in the name of security. So for our government these attacks are a win win situation. Kinda makes me wonder if they have a part in these attacks like 911, Oklahoma, etc. Are these false flag operations designed to take liberty in the name of security? The North Woods Document's kind of answer that question don't they?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
whomodAug 21, 2010
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" - Benjamin Franklin
It got a lot of traction during the Bush era and the Patriot Act discussions but it also applies to this issue.
roofviewAug 21, 2010
The gang at Fox have not learned an important lesson, spit out crap and Jon Stewart will show it for what it is, the sad part in all this, it takes a comedy show to tell like it really is. Pity don't you think.
twohoundogsAug 21, 2010
The problem, and Fox news knows it, is that most of the people that watch Fox news will probably never watch Jon Stewart.
vodkataimeAug 21, 2010
Man I love how Stewart makes all these idiots on American TV look ridiculous. Sometimes it's just completely unbelievable what those bigots on Fox News tell people, and a lot of them believe because it they're so gullible. It should honestly be illegal to mislead people like that. IMHO, If anything, building a Mosque near the site would be a step towards reconciliation.
guitarjunkieAug 21, 2010
The funniest thing about this is that people that consider themselves "politically active" are being baited by a satire news program with a lead-in of a guy telling jokes over youtube videos and reruns of danny devito and friends getting into wacky situations.
