I've had a bunch of people send me this because I have a couple videos on youtube of video games in String Quartet form. Here's the Mario one which has a bunch of themes from Mario on Nintendo all the way through Mario Galaxy.
i dunno. there was a time when i thought i would never get sick of alternative super mario themes, but i think i might be there now. i might just be sick of "super mario brother's played on a ______" videos.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
Not quite as old and tired as the vuvuzelas in real life -- if I were at the cup right now, I'd probably freak out and lose my mind, not capable of enjoying this "football" everybody came to celebrate.
I was going to say he would be good at "The devil went down to Georgia" until I looked it up and saw that the Guitar Hero version sucks so much, it would not be possible...
That would be Koji Kondo. He's been the principle composer for most games made by Nintendo since the beginning. His other credits include the whole Legend of Zelda series and Star Fox.
Also when I saw the man standing next to the TV with the violin in the topic picture I thought he had some kind of violin controller and was playing the game.
Haha, I actually haven't seen this guy before. He actually did a lot better job than the other manualist I saw. And 'The Trooper' was absolutely amazing! lol
At the beginning he was "playing" the jumps and sound effects for stomping goombas, but at the end he kinda quit and was just doing the music. There were some sounds in there that I did not know you could produce with a violin.
It was amazing through. Anyone who says this guy has "too much time on his hands" needs to die in a fire. That took dedication and creativity and was infinitely more awesome than anything the haters have ever done or ever will do.
I was actually hoping they had somehow rigged up a control scheme where notes were mapped to buttons, and he was *playing* (controlling) Mario with a violin.

I never get tired of "super mario brother's played on a ______" video's.
ayeroxorJun 23, 2010
I'll never stop being tired of people acting like apostrophes are only slightly less confusing than nuclear reactors.
smihalikJun 23, 2010
Did I do it wrong?
ortomediusJun 23, 2010
Yes you did.
smihalikJun 23, 2010
I need the Oatmeal to do a piece on apostrophes

i might possibly agree if this were just someone playing the mario theme on a violin.
this time hes kinda being the live soundtrack for the game, coins, stars power ups and all. IMO this was pretty cool.
omicronnineJun 24, 2010
That is not possible. You are clearly just trolling.

lektroluvJun 23, 2010
Weird, I was expecting someone playing SMB WITH a violin. Kinda like that guy who played it with a DDR mat.
medjJun 23, 2010
I was expecting someone to be playing the game regularly while standing on a violin, I was pleasantly surprised.
ripple123Jun 23, 2010
in this case, its ok to hate the player *and* the game
matt11952Jun 23, 2010
The sound effects were awesome. The coin sound was perfect.
socialstacyJun 23, 2010

As you must have noticed, all but two or three of those submissions got about 3 diggs and nobody saw them. And none of them made it to the front page.
darkw0ndersJun 24, 2010
That you even spent the time to search for all of these is rather sad...

byobyobJun 23, 2010
Impressive. I couldn't even figure out where to plug the controllers into my violin :(
poppingweaselsJun 23, 2010
why would he even play the dying sound instead of the killing sound?
huskygeekJun 23, 2010
How do you play a video game with a violin? Oh...
I thought it was a new rock band style interface.

I like the part when you notice he's asian.
No wait, that was totally expected.
powderedtoastyJun 23, 2010
My favorite composer of all time is whoever wrote the Mario songs. I still get that song stuck in my head about once a week, but in the good way.
rain12913Jun 23, 2010
That would be Koji Kondo. He's been the principle composer for most games made by Nintendo since the beginning. His other credits include the whole Legend of Zelda series and Star Fox.
greg2kJun 23, 2010
The day Koji Kondo dies I will cry for two days straight. He's a f**king genius.
powderedtoastyJun 24, 2010
I wonder if it'll sound like this? http://www.entertonement.com/clippr/lmlbdhmxkk
ortomediusJun 23, 2010

jwcolourJun 23, 2010
Pretty damn cool...
Also when I saw the man standing next to the TV with the violin in the topic picture I thought he had some kind of violin controller and was playing the game.

namtarJun 23, 2010
i thought he would use his violin to control mario , i was disapointed
1b2aJun 23, 2010
Really? He's not even good.
jackdudJun 23, 2010
This may seem 'cool' now, but don't forget, this is how games were played in the 1900s, before we had soundtracks.
sockhead360Jun 23, 2010
dugg for his outfit, wtf
uselesstriviaJun 23, 2010

darkaspitchJun 24, 2010
How... else does one play their super mario brothers game, might I ask?
tuki83Jun 24, 2010
