Haha thats pretty neat.
ubermannAug 19, 2010
What's also neat is that the name Wendy comes from a fictional character as well. It never existed before Peter Pan.
skurtAug 19, 2010
And Disney's Peter Pan came out in 1953, 10+ years before the letter of '64...

Very cool. I like how Walt Disney's personality shows in the very short letter to the other Walter.
atarioAug 19, 2010
I like how it took a month for Disney to write back, but Lantz wrote right away.
1badAug 19, 2010
Maybe because one was a in response to a letter from some random girl and the other was in response to a letter from Walt Disney.
akronite14Aug 19, 2010
Disney got a letter from a little girl.
Lantz got a letter from Walt f**king Disney.
atarioAug 19, 2010
"Would you be quicker to open a letter from some random person or one with Walt Disney as the sender."

Really? You seriously think Walt Disney was a classy guy? I bet if little Sally mentioned that she was Jewish or black we wouldn't be reading this article today.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
mrswapAug 19, 2010
There's actually no evidence that I've ever seen that he was a racist/nazi other than the jokes that fly around. The Disney universe Family Guy scene was my favourite.
arfikeAug 19, 2010
Indubitably! That cat Disney was tops!
thanakarAug 18, 2010
Would have been more believable had they included the picture.
arfikeAug 19, 2010
In the age of internet, perhaps. In 1964, probably not.
tntbassAug 18, 2010
So... did she get her picture of Woody Woodpecker?
I know Walt Disney sent her a picture of him and his "friends", but there was no mention from the other Walt.
joemanmanAug 18, 2010
Lantz probably doodled one up, that's what it sounds like at least.
uglymoodAug 18, 2010
I met Walter Lantz while clerking at a store in the mid-80s, and he drew me a Woody Woodpecker picture on the spot when I recognized him. (Yeah, I'm that geeky about animation.) I'm sure Wendy got her picture.
tntbassAug 18, 2010

theeggandiAug 18, 2010
at first glance, i thought she had written "woody wood f**ker"
bosskeyAug 18, 2010
well the name "Woody Woodpecker" isn't exactly lacking in innuendo.
gamer2k4Aug 19, 2010
Um, Woody is a name (Toy Story, anyone?) and a woodpecker is a bird. It's completely lacking in innuendo.

Being a classy person has nothing to do with one's ability to perform classy acts, only a bearing on the frequency at which they occur.
rogersausagesAug 19, 2010
It's too bad that people are so busy and apathetic nowadays that this kind of things is impressive instead of the norm.
hivoltage815Aug 25, 2010
I think its impressive because the medium was so slow. Today celebrities are on Twitter and respond to handfuls of fans everyday. It just doesn't take as much from them to do so.
