If true... hilarious.
timmyftwJun 28, 2010
Still hilarious. I have heard that about 5 times now and every time the person in the crowd changes. X with a Y accent says ect.

Not true :(

p0rtakal2Jun 28, 2010
Do you have to say that? I was about to tell this to my brother. Why didn't you just let us believe it's true... :(

That's a relief. I was worried Bono might be able to kill children by clapping...
userloserJun 28, 2010
Is that much text really needed for a demotivational poster?
lukas1051Jun 28, 2010
The de-motivational part of that adds absolutely nothing to the image, other than cutting off the bottom line slightly.
stanfan114Jun 28, 2010
It is not true, and was not funny in 2008 when I first read it. http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/bono.asp
analogassassinJun 28, 2010
Nah, it was funny.

Good luck in your search for a sense of humour.

Then how did it become funny since 2008?

Dugg up for snopes shout out.

It's even more funny since you're all, "..when I first read it."
Everyone laugh at the king of the internet!

God I hate f**king Bono.

Why? At least he's using his money and influence to try to make the world a better place. IMO more celebrities need to be more like Bono and less Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan.
freemarketfairyJun 28, 2010
I assure you Bono doesn't even know you exist.
user500Jun 28, 2010
I wish I could say the same.
gummicolossusJun 28, 2010
I wish you did one good f**king thing for this world before you started bad mouthing those who do.
licandresJun 28, 2010
God i Bono Hate f**king
gummicolossusJun 28, 2010
Yes...
Hate a humanitarian. Someone who puts money to good use more than most people who have that kind of money. You do all of this as you sit in your basement in front of a computer screen playing World of Warcraft and masturbating.
I understand why he may seem smug, but that doesn't negate the fact he actually cares about world epidemic issues and creates awareness.
sognarJun 29, 2010
He'd make a better humanitarian without vocal chords.
cosworth99Jun 28, 2010
Almost as old as the internet. Front page? Powerdigger?
NEXT.
sautechefJun 28, 2010
Well if you haven't seen it before, then it's new to you.
archfiendJun 28, 2010
Diggers are starting to be whiney little kids. So I'm right there with you.
If you don't like an upload, don't digg it and don't repsond to it. Fairly easy, right?
kinseyincanadaJun 28, 2010
I dont understand all the hate towards U2, War, Atchung Baby and Joshua Tree are fantastic albums, Edge is one of the greatest guitarist in the industry today. And they put on a fantastic live show. They are incredibly talented musicians. Bono does an unprecedented amount of charity work, far more then the vast amount of other celebrities. But just because South Park made fun of him, it seems that everyone thinks it cool to hate on them.
karatemediaJun 28, 2010
Funny thing about opinions: there's a good chance that yours is going to differ from mine.
I think Achtung Baby is overrated, especially compared to, say, MBV's Loveless, which came out the same month (2 weeks prior to AB, according to wiki). And IMHO, everything after Achtung Baby gets progressively worse and overbloated. And while earlier U2 was pretty good when I was a kid, it just hasn't held up over time for me. Perhaps the fact that much of it is overplayed has something to do with it.
The Edge is good with his pedals, and I would never fault a guitarist for creating an "sonic palette" or whatever, but I just can't see him as one of the best guitarists. So much of it just seems to sound the same, just effected variations on the same simple chord progressions. I caught a bit of the "It Might Get Loud," where Edge plays an effects-less version of a U2 song, and it just sounds like nothing. He even basically admits as much.
He's neither a technically proficient guitarist (which isn't as important to me), nor does he push the boundaries sonically. He a competent guitarist who has found his niche. Again, IMHO.
But in the end, regardless of all this, if you can't laugh at a joke that really could be applied to any crusading, slightly pompous star, then you're just overthinking things. And by the way, it's a joke that existed long before some South Park episode.
karatemediaJun 28, 2010
I bring up Loveless mostly because of (what I remember of) the sort of praise heaped upon Achtung Baby - how it melded electronic/club music with rock, how the Edge was pushing his effected guitar sound and layering guitars, etc - and how I kind of felt that Loveless did it all better. Do the two albums sound remotely alike? Mostly no, but some of the things that made people stop and pay attention to AB were being done better by other bands, who didn't tie their innovations to anthemic stadium rock songs and simple ballads.
As for the Edge, yes, it's just our opinions, but I think there are better guitarists doing more with effects and distortion than Dave Evans is. Again, going back to MBV, Kevin Shields did more with just Loveless (and Isn't Anything to a certain extent) than the Edge has done since Achtung Baby. (Although admittedly, Shields' output since has been lacking) From effects to guitar tunings to chord progressions, it's just more than the Edge brings to the table -- U2 songs sound like formula chord progressions with a bunch of effects thrown on them. The Edge just never seems to really push himself, at least from what I've heard. Like I said, competent and comfortable in his niche. Heck, I'd probably even put Slowdive's "Slouvaki" ahead of any U2 album, in terms of sonic palette/interesting guitar sounds. If I could think harder tonight, I could probably come up with some more current artists, but my brain is slowing down...
Not trying to change your mind or anything, and I'm sure that the Edge can comfort himself on his piles of cash and adoring fans... just ranting w/ my opinion...
