WWE is not a sport, it is a (not so) cleverly disguised drama. Use to watch wrestling years ago, but it has become so blatantly fake that watching it is a insult to my intelligence..
PhilbertRupkinsJan 8, 2011
I agree - it is not a sport. It is entertainment but lots of those guys are great athletes. They pull off some amazing moves. It is a true fusion of sports and theatrics - *full contact theatrics if you will. And a lot of those guys can transition into other sports a la Brock Lesnar. Many of them come from sporting backgrounds - Football, Wrestling and the such.
I dont feel it insults my intelligence. It is what it is and I watch it occasionally. Mankind's cage match is something any sports fan will appreciate. Mick Foley took it to a new level. That guy truly gave his body to the WWE (WWF) and put on a show that will be watched for years to come.
Those guys go though injuries just like other athletes. I respect the WWE, other wrestling organizations and the shows they put on. It is more 'show' than 'sport' but people need to understand that they still put their bodies on the line just like athletes in football games and other contact sports.
But better than MMA? I think not. I am entitled to my opinion.

Good stuff. The chair incident is classic.
ofoarheffinsakeJan 9, 2011
WWE wrestlers are athletes the way acrobats and stuntmen are athletes. They are very physically fit and impressive, but that's not what an athlete is. An athlete is a physical competitor. As there is no actual competition, that means they aren't really athletes.
They are in spectacular physical condition, however, and that's no less impressive. When an acrobat does some crazy parkour-style flipping or mid-air handstanding, that's an impressive feat of physical prowess, just like professional wrestling is.
But they aren't athletes.
PhilbertRupkinsJan 9, 2011
Valid point. By the strict definition of athlete, I agree. However, WWE is a show based on a competitive sport, unlike parkour, so it is difficult to classify these guys. In other words, do we call them 'actors' based on the show they put on or 'athletes' based on competition they simulate?
Even after raising that question/point, I would agree with you and say they are actors in spectacular shape to put on such a show.
Thank you for the correction my friend.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that big time. MMA is better because it is real. Hopefully it won't get corrupted like Boxing did. I used to be hooked on pro wrestling, but for me, knowing that what I'm seeing is real beats a performance....at least in the fighting world.
grammerpantsJan 8, 2011
It already is corrupted. It's real fighting, but other then that, stars rise and fall at the will of Dana White.
sithtigerJan 8, 2011
Uh as far as I know no one has taken a dive yet.

Comparing the two is like comparing porn to sex. Both are fun in their own ways.

Dude WWE is so fake and there is nothing fun about it, WWE can't even compare with MMA. The guy that wrote this article is DUMB!
kiffarrJan 8, 2011
WWE was more entertaining when it was WWF
puddmasterJan 8, 2011
WWF was the s**t back in the 80s and 90s. Then it became WWE and suddenly sucked balls.
ofoarheffinsakeJan 9, 2011
I would strongly suspect that it "suddenly sucking balls" coincides rather dramatically with "you no longer being 8-22 years old"
But that's just a guess.
feragoJan 8, 2011
Wrestling is simply unwatchable these days.

I really wanted to read this but there is some crap at the bottom of the page that keeps updating and is annoying to look at while viewing the site.
militantrabbitJan 8, 2011
I barely watch wrestling directly anymore. I watch it boiled down into the best botched moves via Botchamania.
TheTruth00Jan 8, 2011
MMA and WWE is like comparing real cheese to processed cheese. One's real and has many different flavours and styles... while one is fake and marketed to 11 year old kids
NatronMeansBusinessJan 8, 2011
This should be on the S.A.T.s
MMA is to WWE as...

But if you're an 11 year old kid you gotta admit that processed cheese is very yummy!

Ahhh, the good old WWF. That's the fun stuff to watch. Just a silly entertaining soap opera for guys.

Yeah! WWE is more entertaining than MMA. I love the fireworks during entrances.
dannyhirtlerJan 8, 2011
When all is said and done Midget Wrestling is still the best show I've ever seen. Those guys came through town two months ago and I've seen anyone put on a show like those guys

babywookieJan 8, 2011
Both are just gay porn for closet cases. If you are older than 13 and still watch this s**t, you are balls-touching gay.
incognito2008Jan 8, 2011
Wrestling in the 80's was unique and addictive. I was a huge fan. What wrestling has become now is similar to the feeling I get watching Olympic wrestling.
antimrbabymanJan 8, 2011
FTA:
"Cages need roofs, which is why you see so many MMA fighters climb up the walls and scurry away during a big match. They need to be locked in."
I don't think that's a valid argument, It's just not practical in a fight. Also, don't give GSP any ideas!
TEAM GSP
cockyjeremyJan 8, 2011
The title alone makes me LOL. A fake ass soap opera is in no way better than real violence.

This question is to idiotic. Comparing WWE to UFC isn't even like apples and oranges, it's like apples and rocks. They are completely different entities and don't deserve to be in the same category. I watch both of them just the way they should be: SEPARATE.
illestlyricsJan 8, 2011
WWE in its prime was a lot better than MMA. By the way, how the hell do you figure WWE has produced some of the finest actors. Besides "The Rock" there isn't anyone else.
sbfbobJan 8, 2011
MMA fighters get the mic...
tomgfromcanadaJan 8, 2011
only need 1 reason its not. FAKE
digitaldeadstarJan 8, 2011
I'd say it's more like comparing apples to oranges. You're comparing a full-on sport to sports entertainment.
That being said, I support professional wrestling more. However scripted the outcome may be, those guys go through hell day in and day out. Unlike most other sports, there is no off season for wrestling. They don't wrestle one, maybe two days a week. Usually three to four days a week, every week, all year.
So yeah, it might be scripted, pulled punches, poor acting, etc., but anyone discrediting any wrestlers shows just how little they know about the industry. These guys (and girls) go out there every night, putting their bodies on the line for the sake of other people's entertainment.
danconiaJan 9, 2011
This is why WWE/WWF CAN be better than MMA at moments:

FAIL! What a waste of time reading this article. Notice how everyone Boo's Lesnar when he fights? It's cause he still has that WWE attitude and fans of MMA hate that bulls**t. The only point I agree with is #4. Bruce Buffer and Mike Goldberg suck donkey dink, Rogan to a much lesser extent.
"Finally, the long-awaited match that we've all been waiting a long time for" -Mike Goldberg-
"aghiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit's tiiiiime." Not quite as catchy as your brother's slogan Bruce, but you're good at giving the referees the reach-around.
NofuneralJan 9, 2011
#9 - Props. Do you know what's better than props? Seeing someone get punched in the face, for really.
#8 - Substandard Referees. Yeah, 'cause everyone loves it when ref's blow a call in professional sports.
#7 -Outfits. Most WWE wrestlers fight in the same thing a MMA fighter wear, practically. They just come out in outfits. MMA fans would boo any douche who tried that s**t.
#6 -Vince McMahon. Meh, can't argue with that. Dana White, step in the octagon and put your money where your mouth is. You call all the fighters on TUF pussies when they don't want to fight.
#5 -Celebrity Matches. Yeah, those are a big draw on WWE Pay-Per-Views. Not one of those lame matches are memorable, not one!
#4 - Announcers. Agreed, UFC need the King!!!!
#3
e of those lmematches are memorable
NofuneralJan 9, 2011
Oops, posted it before I was done editing.
#3 -Gimmick Matches. Watching fights in the octagon is boring? And somehow would be better with a lid? And you've never been bored of a WWE match? REALLY!? The writer of this article was just lazy with this one, IMO.
#2 -Wrestlers Get the Mic. First of all fighters do get the mic, and it's the worst part of the ppv. They train for a punch in the face contest which usually means they aren't articulate. And WWE wrestlers read scripts, you know, that have been written for the character they play. They aren't speaking from the heart when they dis Detroit.
#1 -The Movie Springboard. AAAAHAHAHAHAHA. Hogan and Andre the Giant are big Hollywood movie stars? No Holds Barred and the Princess Bride, am I missing anything? And the Rock, okay, he's planted in Hollywood. Just one quick question:"Making s**tty movies or making movies s**tty?"
Sorry to WWE fans, I'm not trying to dis you or the WWE, I'm just dissing the article and the writer. This article was so pathetic it's offensive.
