Punisher would be a much better TV series than movie. here are the keys in my opinion.

-NOT on a big network - A&E and FX are made for sex and violence and they are the only "free" channels that could take this on
-You follow the regular story arc. criminal mastermind kills his family and he takes revenge, but he cant stop... the revenge is his drug
-Detroit type city would be perfect. A setting of economic disparity, Strikes, Poverty, corruption and Hopelessness, combined with a lavish upper class... Kind of like Robocop's setting.
-But!... you have to go all the way, don't give him a dog or a stupid sidekick... it's him, alone with his tortured aloofness that makes this show work. sure he may bang some chicks every now and then or someone from his past might show up and he might save some lives. but he is not there to save people he is there to punish the wicked.

That's a show!

Perhaps Showtime or HBO could finally do justice to The Punisher. I weep openly when I think of how bad the movies were in contrast to the spectacular work Garth Ennis did when he helmed the comic.
