50 is the man! This goes to show that nobody should complain about money as the opportunities are out there!
douglasqDec 29, 2010
Like selling simple, colour-by-numbers music to stupid people.
vega310Dec 30, 2010
Wow, you must be a multi-millionaire since you discovered the secret to easy success. Or do you just have too much 'integrity' to become a millionaire by making s**tty music?
cakesmackDec 29, 2010
This was all for PR. He could make more money doing something else during that time, like working on signing talent to his label. This was purely for the publicity.
ricksiteDec 29, 2010
I agree the opportunities are out there but not everyone can command $100 for a snow shoveling.
growlandsDec 29, 2010
Get more creative then... if you aren't a celebrity get naked or something. There are many ways to get that $100 price tag.
ljseinfeldDec 29, 2010

eroticturkeyDec 30, 2010
You'll have plenty of college money and never have to leave West Virginia!
namcoDec 29, 2010
That's the big problem right now for the snow shoveling industry. You aren't going to make any money as an independent snow shoveler unless you're a big name already. Like it or not, shovelers still need the marketing power of the big snow shoveling companies behind them.
3the3dude3Dec 29, 2010
Dude, the "Big Snow Shovel" lobby has been raping Washington for years. They're basically the teenage version of the Freemasons. They may not do any marketing but they're creating a new world order, or something.

couragewulfDec 29, 2010
As a kid I would door knock everyone on our street. 10 bucks a pop, 5-10 costumers = $50-100. Took me all day but I was $50 richer than the other 7th graders.
letterqDec 29, 2010
Yeah, sure they are, if you're a celebrity with over 3 million twitter followers. The rich get richer... Trust me, nobody's paying me or you $100 per sidewalk to shovel snow.
norman619Dec 29, 2010
Something tells me no one would pay YOU $100 to shovel their driveway. This is more about having a celeb doing it for you than anything else.
simonjester666Dec 29, 2010
I suppose it helps to live in a neighborhood where people can afford to Pay $100 a pop, they probably would have given the normal guy the same thing but 50 snagged the job up first, he probably enjoys shoveling (some people do) he probably got to skip a workout at the gym this week.
Closed AccountDec 30, 2010
Are you joking? Rich people didn't get rich by being stupid with their money. They would NOT give a "normal guy" $50 to do something that that same normal guy would gladly take $25 or so to do.
Driveway, maybe. Not a sidewalk.
And no...he doesn't enjoy shoveling, or want to skip his gym wrkout. He is doing it for PUBLICITY! Hence, the article about it. If he enjoyed doing it, then he would go to some poorer neighborhoods and do it FOR FREE to help people out.
phillaholicDec 30, 2010
Would it not be better publicity to go to poor neighborhoods and do it for free?
WreckedEmDec 30, 2010
I'm guessing that most people wealthy enough to be willing to pay $100 to have their driveway cleared, likely have never even heard of 50 cent, and if they have, I seriously doubt they'd be able to recognize him on the street.
hediggmeDec 29, 2010
So that's how he got all that cash to hide in his car
gvoakesDec 29, 2010
50 Cent is hilarious
notifynealDec 29, 2010
and he got the $25 shovel - with the curved handle for back support; i'm only 35 years young so I bought the $12 joint;
beshirthappyDec 29, 2010
Well, he's not afraid of a little hard work. And, I wonder if I could get $100 a pop to shovel sidewalks?
deadskinmaskDec 29, 2010
No.
tastemyrainbowDec 29, 2010
"fiddy the mane!"
WebiBizDec 29, 2010
he's better than me... I stopped at my driveway and my old ass neighbor's .. fuhk that!
bestatitDec 29, 2010
haha, 50 still a hustler!! get money!
alanocuDec 29, 2010
50 cent is non-stop entertainmÂent. He seems to be having fun with life The guy's life started on the streets and he has the gun shot wounds to prove it. I say live it up buddy.
grammerpantsDec 30, 2010
He got those gun shot wounds AFTER he stopped being a drug dealer and became a rapper. Always found that strange.
davidtcDec 29, 2010
People must be desperate to pay $100 for a one time snow shoveling. I know the job I got couldn't afford the $100 each day with the other expenses I have. But if he can find the people to pay, more power to him.
ajajadudeDec 29, 2010
No, they just want an opportunity to meet a celebrity and say he shoveled snow for them.
kinserDec 29, 2010
I think this is a little ridiculous myself. My fiancee and I cleared several of her neighbors driveways and sidewalks for free.
Why should the man charge for it? Does he not have money?
theyac3Dec 29, 2010
I honestly don't know what to say to this...
douglasqDec 29, 2010
Yeah I think this might be the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
Since New Digg happened, nearly all of the cool Diggers left, as I should have.
These days every time I come here I'm faced with a wall of homophobes, right-wing bigots, obnoxious people who misunderstand everything that's said, aggressive religious old-testament nutbags, and now people bigging up 50 Cent, so not even music is safe from what Digg has become.
This place used to be cool.
-if you see my username pop up again (and you probably will) be sure to mention this comment and what a hypocrite I am.

hipmanDec 29, 2010
Yes.So stop whining and leave.
quillrootsDec 29, 2010
What does digg not being what it used to be have to do with the submission? 50 cent isn't being "bigged" up because of his music, it's because he's a celebrity and he is doing manual labor for money, like a normal person. It may be a twitter publicity stunt that just happens to put an extra grand in his pocket, but I still think he deserves some props for the effort.
Digg is not the same, we got it. I know you have some seperation anxiety with the new digg, but it's all gonna be ok, just hang in there. I'm sure Reddit will accept you.
Closed AccountDec 29, 2010
you are right! Digg is SOOOOO right wing! And SOOOOO pro-religion.
Dude....if Digg is further right than you are, then you know you have gone SO far off the deep end that it is too late to function in modern society. Because you are now alienated from 99.99999% of society with your ultra extreme views.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

@douglasq
That explains the daily appearance of multiple Politicus and/or Alternet submissions that hit the front page.
frostyb007Dec 30, 2010
I don't know who told you that you're cool but they lied to you big time.
butchthevizslaDec 29, 2010
seems like false advertising - shouldn't he be charging 50 cents?
heatherlarsonDec 29, 2010
I think I'd pay 50 Cent $100 to shovel some snow ONTO my lawn here in Kansas. Would love to see some snow around here...
frostyb007Dec 30, 2010
ditto for here in Toronto
chendereDec 29, 2010

MRayduhDec 29, 2010
cents is pronounced like "sense". What incredible relevant wordplay, I cant believe people would thumb this down!
CaineslayerDec 29, 2010

filipmaresDec 29, 2010
You aren't gangsta if you don't shovel neighbouring driveways. Pow pow!
chucklingchuckDec 29, 2010
i think he must be the only guy shot x-amount of times to use the phrase 'lol'
stanly22Dec 29, 2010
I like the use a variable for his gunshot wounds. Bet 50 hopes he never sees x++.

living in a town with a lot of old people. Don't have to be famous to move white powder and make bank. Puns intended.
jeremiahjwDec 29, 2010
Man, I can't wait until I'm famous, and can charge people $100 to shovel snow off their lawns.
poultrychampDec 29, 2010
Mommy mommy there's a scary black man outside shoveling snow!
Closed AccountDec 29, 2010
This is the first and only thing I've ever seen 50 do that gave me any respect for him.
I have respect for all men and women that earn their money with real work.
This also says alot about him actual understanding money that he's willing to work to earn $1000 when that's what probably makes in royalties a day or in an hr etc.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
norman619Dec 29, 2010
You respect him for charging people for shoveling their snow? Man, you are easily impressed. I would have been impressed if he was doing it for free out of the kindness of his heart not for pay and the PR.
ajajadudeDec 29, 2010
You must have low standards.
What would actually be cool if he did for charity or just out of kindness. Taking advantage of star-struck morons is hardly something to respect.
amaoicanDec 29, 2010
Charity is just code for, "giving to people who are unwilling or unable to sell services commensurate with their lifestyle demands".
Closed AccountDec 30, 2010
That is an irrefutable statement of fact. Expect to be buried.
ericschc1Dec 29, 2010
There's so much wrong with your comment, from suggesting that your definition of "real work" is the only legitimate one, all the way down to what you assume he makes per hour/day in royalties.
"Oh, he's famous...he must be making a $1000 per hour/day." = the logic of morons in the peanut gallery.

I have very little respect for most music careers.
Having literally picked up a snowshovel, go out and do honest work is straight out of the Great American story. The hiring part at the end is on an extremely micro economics scale how our macro economics SHOULD work.
And the statement about making money in royalties, I know a very substantial amount about how the recording industry works and detest the RIAA. So a person that gets paid $100,000s and $1,000,000s my statement is very valid.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
ericschc1Dec 30, 2010
"I have very little respect for most music careers. "
Thats kind of a shame you're so dismissive about an entire industry. I can only assume you're not being at all prejudiced and know exactly how much or little is invested by an artist into their jobs.
"Having literally picked up a snowshovel, go out and do honest work is straight out of the Great American story."
Anything entrepreneurial in nature is straight out of the Great American story. Like I said before, you're awfully damn conceited if you think your definition of "real work" is the only one that counts for anything. The spoiled kid who lives down the street from my aunt in Colorado who shovels the neighborhood walkways because mommy makes him isn't a harder worker than 50 Cent or more the embodiment of "The Great American story". Hell, most of that "story" entails shady business deals, fleecing the public, murder and theft...not unlike hip-hop.
"I know a very substantial amount about how the recording industry works and detest the RIAA."
Ooooh, good for you. However, if you've ever actually received a check from ASCAP or BMI or SEASAC (the companies that actually cut royalty checks to artists, NOT the RIAA), you'd know its never broken down in a per hour or per day sum, Also, there's 2 "sets" of royalties for every piece of music that is released: one for writing and one for mechanical performance and in a given day its almost never that much, unless the performer wrote and produced and performed everything themselves and the song in question is consistently selling. Any recording has a huge drop off, about a month following its release and is almost un-trackable as per day/hour income beyond about a year or 2.
amaoicanDec 30, 2010
"you'd know its never broken down in a per hour or per day sum" Okay - seriously? I'm not saying 50c is the rainman or anything but I'm pretty sure he can divide the amount of money on his check by the number of days in the period for which the check covers.
PS - I read that as a rule of thumb, the artist gets about $1 per CD sold. Is that about right in your estimation?
norman619Dec 29, 2010
Is he that hard up?
danbarkerDec 29, 2010
Some one should report him to the trade-descriptions office. He's meant to do it for 50 cent.
meedDec 29, 2010
say what you want about the man, but he isn't afraid to do physical work he just wants a huge amount of money for it. Isn't America great?
fyberopticDec 29, 2010
Star power does not factor in to how well your driveway is shoveled. Therefore $100 is a total rip-off, and those people are stupid for paying it.
But as anyone who is in the maintenance/repair/lawn business might know, lazy people will pay anything to avoid doing work themselves.
grammerpantsDec 30, 2010
If a well known famous person offered to shovel my driveway for me, I'd pay the $100 and consider it worth it.
jginthehouseDec 29, 2010
$100? straight rrrrip off. and he still makes tone deaf s**t music
odinsfuryDec 29, 2010
Would have been cooler and better publicity if he had done it for free or for 10 bucks. Of course he might not remember that there are bills smaller than a Ben Franklin.
plebesotericistDec 29, 2010
At least this gives the urban youth realistic ideas to gain $, and I bet 50's neighbors aren't cowering in fear when they see him any more.

James Gandolfini not only helped shovel/push a stranded motorist that he nnevr met before for free, but when the car finally got unstuck, he went into a bar to get change for a $100 to hand out $20 to the other people who stopped to help.
THAT'S a story. Not some s**tty ass gangster overcharging people to shovel their sidewalks.
samir411Dec 29, 2010
he just wants constant attention!!!! so he will do s**t like this to come up in the news net word to mouth etc.
