Interesting, but it's like having GPS on a horse and buggy. Cards will be a thing of the past soon.

I liked your analogy.

Where can I get one?
pmc64Sep 18, 2010
That looks like a stupid idea to me.

Oh good, let's see how many more shiny things the banks can dangle in front of the average worker's face in an attempt to exploit human psychology to create a class of people permanently indebted to them.

I applaud their creativity and innovation.
That said, I can't see people wanting to take the extra time to "unlock" their card. I mean, that Taco Bell drive thru has to keep moving!
As for the multiple accounts idea, I'm not sure I'd be happy with having to go through the hassle of temporarily freezing all of my linked financial accounts or getting a new replacement card (with different numbers) when I lose the card or snap it in half. Why would I snap it in half? Because I pressed the buttons too hard when I was "unlocking" it at the drive thru at Taco Bell!
There are probably better applications for the technology in related industries though.

@innovyse: According to the inventor, if you lose your card, it becomes "a dead piece of plastic". Unless you know the code, it is useless. So why would you need to freeze your accounts and get new numbers?
innovyseSep 19, 2010
Good point. I suppose I question how secure the code is, and the card by extension. I mean, we've all seen how easily most layers of security can be breached.

I agree that most people aren't going to want to remember more passwords and go through the hassle of changing accounts on the fly

A credit card that can reprogram it's magnetic strip, it sounds like a dream for card thieves to be able to program there card to have dozens if not 1000s of their stolen card number all at once!

Regardless of the marketing gimmicks introduced with credit cards, the financial services industry has irreparably damaged it's reputation and trust among customers. As a direct result, this industry will see a significant drop in revenue and they'll have it coming.

Oh good! You mean they won't all be maxed out?!?? Phew!!!
