Our government has turned against us.
ninureDec 30, 2010
Gee, you didn't seem to mind when the Bush folks crafted the Patriot Act, threw American citizens in jail without charge or accees to to lawyers, wire tapped the phoms of ALL Americans....
badqatDec 30, 2010
That's because they knew President Obama would change all of that.
Oh wait...he just continued those things, didn't he?
16x9Dec 30, 2010
I voted for President Obama. And for the most part I'm happy I did. But I'd be dishonest if I didn't admit that I'm disappointed (and more than a little concerned) that he has continued former President Bush's "Big Brother" policies.
Closed AccountDec 30, 2010
No, he (not solely obviously) caused those things. He voted in favor of all of those.
joebrenderDec 30, 2010
Actually, the wiretapping of all phone calls goes back to way before bush. Echelon was in operation in the 1990's.
justatoolDec 30, 2010
It has always been like this..
aristotle0dudeDec 30, 2010
Democrats and Republicans are the "SAME" party. They even switch members from time to time on the house floor.
Stop voting for either of those parties if you want change.

So much for "government for the People"...

I've planned so many road trips lately. As far as I can tell I'll never have to fly again. Any way you look at it's just a pain in the ass..

I'm tired of all the complaining about the scanners! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Its not a right to fly... Its a prilege! If you don't like it don't fly. That what buses, trains, boats are for! SUCK IT UP AND MOVE ON! I rather do the scanner any day then get blown up!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

What's next? Checkpoints every few miles on the highways with armed soldiers asking for your "papers"?
Is that what you want comrade?

If it ever comes to that, my papers will have a barrel on the one end and a trigger on the other.

Unless you're refering to DUI check points (which I extremely disagree with) I've never seen one of these check points that wasn't at a national border (where we have every right to demand your papers).

Sorry not the point. Please read:
Taken from here: http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#Am4
Amendment 4 - Search and Seizure. Ratified 12/15/1791.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
This is what we are talking about. We are innocent until proven guilty. Right now it is the other way around.
crazysdaocDec 30, 2010
Seriously My point exactly by the last 2 comments! Your to worried about your privacy! Do you have something to hide!?!? That is what your telling me! Did you protest Metal Detectors? Is that a problem??? so this new "Scanner" is a newer system that has been developed that is more advanced then a metal detector! And as stated previously! Its not a right its a prilege! stop worrieing about OMG its a vitural Image without cloths! Seriously? The 1st time someone doesn't get scanned and people die from it I'll bet your the 1st ones commenting that the system is flawed!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
elmuerte17Dec 30, 2010
When the government sets up security checkpoints that start singling people out on roads and searching them, will you say that driving is a "prilege" (I'm guessing you mean "privilege")? When they can enter your house or apartment without a warrant or any reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing, will you say that having a place to sleep is a "prilege?"
This has nothing to do with "having something to hide," that is nothing more than an excuse used to justify violating people's rights.
crazysdaocDec 30, 2010
1st off :) thank you for the spelling correction. And yes Driving is a Privilege! Thats why in the US you need a license!
crazysdaocDec 30, 2010
And on the road stops... Isn't that what police check points are? Seriously? Learn what your talking about!
theunlearnDec 31, 2010
It's not a "prilege" or even a privilege. Flying is a service offered by PRIVATE companies. The fact that the Feds have muscled their way into the screening process is just another example of Government overreach.
"I rather do the scanner any day then get blown up!"
What a coincidence. I'd rather you get blown up after doing the scanner, as well. Oh, you meant "than." Well, that makes the meaning of that sentence completely different, doesn't it?
Seriously though, I know it's played out but I'm going to paraphrase Ben Franklin once again.
"Those who would give up essential liberty for a little temporary safety, deserve neither, and will lose both."

My question to you Seldon21 is If you are going to a different location and requesting access to another location AKA a plane and the requirements are for you to be "searched" or "scanned" you have every right to object! as per the 4th amendment! just don't expect to get on the plane. Remember Rights and Prileges are not the same thing!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Didn't the last President call it "just a Goddamn piece of paper?"
UphemismDec 30, 2010
No, actually he didn't. We don't need to make up s**t, to make someone like him look bad. However, how is the previous admin's behavior compare to the current one?
Not much. We were out protesting when it was the other guy - I wonder why we aren't with this guy?
joebrenderDec 30, 2010
You are correct, sir, that Obama and Bush, who seemed so different in 2008, seem so much alike in 2010. Every now and then i'm reminded of what others have said, that Republicans and Democrats are just different sides of the same coin.
UphemismDec 30, 2010

You know what? I'd feel a lot safer flying if you were bound, gagged, and fist f**ked by a TSA agent (just to make sure that you aren't hiding anything in there). And really, aren't my feelings of safety more important than your dignity, comfort, and Constitutional rights?
Why are you such a coward? The terrorists wanted to cause fear -- and people like you are prime examples of how well they succeeded.
geroncoDec 31, 2010
So you have fear of having a pat down? lol Did you ever get gagged anywhere? Airport, home...? Who sounds like a coward here? lol Please I'm done here, I get your view :) Travel by donkey next time you need to go anywhere. And by the way, I have no problem if you fantasize about getting fist f**ked. We all have choices.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
Closed AccountDec 31, 2010
You're a f**king coward; you're Bin Laden's bitch. I'm willing to get onto a plane today without anyone on the flight being patted down, X-rayed, body-scanned, or crotch-sniffed by explosives sniffing dogs. I'm willing to get on to the plane with passengers bringing on full-sized bottles of soda and shampoo, gel sole inserts in their shoes, or toner cartridges.
"So you have fear of having a pat down?"
No, I don't "fear" having a pat down. You don't need to fear something to be opposed to it or to find it distasteful and invasive.
"Did you ever get gagged anywhere?"
No, but I would feel safer flying if you were. If I should meekly submit to a feel-up by some TSA agent to make you feel safer, then you should submit to being bound, gagged, and fist-f**ked by one if it makes me, or any other person on the plane, feel safer.
That's basically your argument: Everyone else, even rape victims and children traumatized by molestation, should submit to a feel-up search because it makes you feel safer. Your safety is more important than the U.S. Constitution and the rights, dignity, and religious beliefs of others.
"Travel by donkey next time you need to go anywhere."
So that some jackass like you can be less scared of the mean old terrorists? No thanks. I'll travel by plane, just as I have for over thirty years, and speak out against every effort by you and others who wish to bow to the will of the terrorists by changing our way of life and weakening our constitutional protections.
"And by the way, I have no problem if you fantasize about getting fist f**ked."
I don't "fantasize about getting fist f**ked." I tried to pick something that most people would find horrifying. Apparently you did not find it to be so. My bad.

@Geronco
I'm starting to think that you don't understand the idea behind terrorism.
Terrorists' primary goal is to cause terror, fear, and panic. They want people to change their way of life such that they can't put the terrorism out of their minds. They want people boarding planes to be reminded about terrorism as many times as possible. They want people standing in long lines looking at fellow passengers wondering which of them might be terrorists. They want to disrupt society and cause fear.
The best way to combat terrorism: STOP BEING TERRIFIED! Get on the plane with the same boarding procedures we used prior to 9/11 and make your biggest worries be whether you'll be seated next to some morbidly obese smoker or whether you're souvenir hat will be crushed in the overhead bin. Don't give in to fear -- or at least don't let on that the terrorists achieved their goal of putting you in fear.
If the primary goal of terrorists was to keep you from thinking about elephants, then would you have the TSA going through people's magazines and books to check to make sure that there are no elephant pictures? Would you have people stand in line for an hour in order to ask them whether anything that they were carrying on board the plane had pictures of elephants? Would you strip search people to make sure that they had no tattoos which featured elephants?

UphemismDec 30, 2010
Remember a few years back, when everyone was protesting, and marching and the powers that be were so worried that the masses were about to march on Washington and give a bit of the revolution spirit back?
We stopped that and that allowed them to take the next step, which we still didn't protest about, so they took the next step......etc, etc, etc

Maybe the following year we'll be able to elect a president that's actually interested in the Constitution.
If only Ron Paul was our current president.

True enough. Think about it. No bailouts, no wars, no more spying, no TSA patdowns, etc, etc, etc....
No wonder people didn't want that.

Not just ending the wars but bringing home our soldiers that are stationed all over the world for no reason, like in Germany for example. Letting us end the wasteful spending on foreign military bases that serve no purpose. It would also allow those soldiers to spend their earnings in our economy instead of where they're stationed.
