gigaom.com — With a year-on-year growth rate of more than 250%, 850,000 new Android devices are activated each day, jetting the total number of Android devices around the world past 300 million. These numbers are a testament to the break-neck speed of innovation that defines the Android ecosystem.”

Dugg the story, but disagree it is bad, 850k users daily means 85+ new coders daily working on open platform droid.

Yeah, I don't see any negative stuff.

It's bad for their competitors like Apple but that's about it.

It's bad for who?
It's bad that consumers have several phones from several brands with several prices to pick from? It's bad that there's an open source OS that drives competition between several manufacturers?
It's bad that there's an OS that despite so much fragmentation, is still more stable than iOS?

It's almost if some people think we would be better off it there was just one company selling just one phone to everyone.

Imagine that.
300 million frustrated users. It`s windows all over again.

Bought my 65+ year old mom a Samsung Galaxy S II yesterday, and my unlocked physical QWERTY Samsung Captivate Glide is on its way to the United Arab Emirates :)
Give non-tech elderly users the latest technology, and you'll be pleased to see how quickly they pick it and enjoy using it.

It is bad because Android will NOT be able to sustain that much growth over the next year or so.
Also, please stop calling it "Droid"...dammit, it's ANDROID.

When in the last 20 years has it ever been different in the computing industry. This article is a lot of talk about nothing new.
I generally wait a while until the general costs come down to a point where I decide the cost is worth what I get and make a decision.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

The cost of ownership of a 2 year contract plus phone is dominated by the service cost, not the phone cost. If you want to pay less, shop for a good plan.

Android still sucks as overcomplicated, non user friendly. I recommend iphones to all but technofistos
