If I had the choice to buy any one of those cars then I would definitely prefer Chevrolet volt.
dirtyfriesFeb 2, 2011
Apparently the Volt is in the lead, but it's not really a big deal...they're both in the triple digits.
I'd go for a Volt if I was in the market for a car. I like the range flexibility and the infrastructure just isn't in place yet to juice up everywhere you go.
Both cars offer a great way to start tearing you off oil though. Good luck to both!
meccaydnaFeb 3, 2011
Sounds like a business idea to me! Develop some kind of battery exchange depot. Yeah the car design doesn't really allow it right now, but in the future...
lucas123Feb 2, 2011
Wow. Hundreds are selling!
charlotte_webFeb 2, 2011
Neither, because production is severely constrained and apparently there's a waiting list for both.
arpadFeb 2, 2011
And the winner is...neither! One's an economy car selling at a luxury car price even after a ridiculously large subsidy and the other's a sub-compact economy car selling at the price of mid-sized, and well-appointed, family car. Oh, and it only has a hundred mile range. On it's best day.
With any luck the Republicans in the House will zero out those subsidies relegating these idiotic vehicle to the same garbage heap of history as is occupied by the EV-1. At least it was only General Motors stockholders who took it in the neck for that stupid conceit.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Yea, it's way more fun continuously funding those wars for oil.
linuxpersonFeb 2, 2011
...which helps drive the price of oil down in the US, eliminating much of the demand for alternative energy that would have otherwise existed.
JustSayNoPartyFeb 2, 2011
Exactly, I hope Republicans are on the right side of history here. We must stop subsidizing alternatives to cars running on Gas. Clearly, there's no problem with dependence on oil. And, who wants to lead the world on the next generation of technologies? What benefits would come from that?

I'd take the Leaf, cuz 1; it's nicer, and most importantly 2; it's NOT a chev.
tomyclikFeb 2, 2011
'Yugo Car'. Remember?
It was a limousine .....
lotus22Feb 2, 2011
Nissan Leaf.
GM lied about the powertrain in the Volt.
bonestampFeb 2, 2011
What was the lie?
alienmushroomFeb 2, 2011
Leaf is one ugly car. Even worse than Prius.
ikelleighFeb 2, 2011
I'm not sure why auto companies are making these hybrids/electrical/green cars look so terrible. I can't imagine that those body styles are more aerodynamic than a Porsche-type design.
xtomtomxFeb 2, 2011
Question:
What's the impact to the environment for the footprint cost to produce more electricity to fuel the vehicle over it's lifetime, added with the extra energy needed to actually produce it, VS the traditional gasoline vehicles.
If there is a footprint reduction, then I'll be on board. Until then, I am skeptical.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
vigrocoFeb 2, 2011
It is more efficient to burn fossil fuels at a large power plants than in millions of car engines.
zjbirdFeb 2, 2011
The answer is, you don't buy these cards for the environment if you truly understand them. You buy them to help the country separate itself from a dependence on foreign fuel.
dennis0721Feb 2, 2011
If only GM could get the price so the masses could purchase one, they would have a winner. Not the end all be all but definately a step in the right direction.
superkendallFeb 2, 2011
The Volt is a far superior idea for a car during a transition phase to other forms of power. Little trips use no gas, but you still have plenty of range for long trips. You can also opt for slow wall plug charging or a fast charge, whatever works.
Also the great thing about the Volt is, if in the end the world switched to some other form of fuel like Hydrogen you just change out the power plat from gas to whatever - all it does is power the electric motor, so anything that can make electricity can work to extend the range of the Volt.
The only thing I don't like about the Volt is GM itself, I'm not buying anything from a government controlled company. But I hope the Volt is successful enough that other auto-makers take up the idea.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
ferretmanFeb 3, 2011
They're both very lacking, but I'd take the Leaf over the Volt.
babywookieFeb 3, 2011
Japanese Cars > American Cars
reefsurfer226Feb 3, 2011
Leaf... for a few reasons. One i liked the prototype volt that actually looked cool and im now bitter because its basically an electric cobalt. Two its like 10k less then the volt.
monvalleyFeb 3, 2011
How many Volts did the government buy from Government Motors? Who else can afford the price tag?
beadssupplyFeb 4, 2011
I like Nissan Leaf
