What is wrong with it is easy. It is a gimmick with no real substance. You fix it by not making it a gimmick which is problematic because what chemicals are in your laundry detergent doesn't make a damn bit of difference to the planet.

it's one thing to promise me i'll meet beautiful women or make lots of money if i buy XYZ product, but trying to appeal to my morals, saying "it's the right thing to do" pisses me off more than anything.

That is just ridiculous. Radiohead spends tons of time working on everything they do, it is not slapdash in any way shape or form. You know that both of their guitarists composed for the BBC? Johnny Greenwood was their Composer in Residence in 2004, and that Thome Yorke tours universities lecturing on musical composition?
