We discovered the smallest of issues with "Who Dugg This?" feature which we are fixing before rolling it out. It'll be live in an hour or two!
cdurukMar 1, 2011
I hear the culprit *cough*me*cough* fixed his bug and now Users Who Dugg is live!
anomaly100Mar 1, 2011
Good job! <clapping wildly>
On another note, Is there any chance of showing who buries submissions? There shouldn't be any harm in doing it, if they believe they have good cause to bury it.
sarahleeMar 1, 2011
I think showing who buries could cause too many fights, but it would be nice to have the ability to see who dugg back again.
anomaly100Mar 1, 2011
It would also show who is collaboratively burying. If the same people show up over and over, on every sub, the entire Digg community will see what's going on. What could be so wrong with that? I don't mind a sub buried, but repeatedly targeted by the same people....
sarahleeMar 1, 2011
You have a point there....
javaroastMar 1, 2011
Burying barely holds any weight currently.
mhuntMar 2, 2011
As far as I can tell, burying simply removes an item from your view. It doesn't seem to have any effect on anyone else.
novenatorMar 1, 2011
Very good work guys and gals. Love the added functionality, and the aesthetic design of it.
sardarsuduzeaiMar 1, 2011
I can't stand people that go back to their ex after they've hurt them
lethainMar 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
We're bringing some stuff back that we've seen before (the "Who Dugg This?" module), but we're also bring some stuff we've never seen before like My News - Trending.
We'll be hanging around on this thread, and will definitely respond if you have more specific ideas or thoughts about these latest changes or any others we've made!
bossm4nMar 1, 2011
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there still appears to be no way to easily find and follow what friends submit. Could you shed some light on the decision not to bring back that feature or have something like sharing again so people don't have to rely on buggy third party apps or other non-Digg alternatives? Seems like you could even make that a another tab or drop-down in My News.
As it stands now with My News, it still focuses more on what stories my friends have dugg or commented on. It would be nice to have the option to filter between what friends have submitted, dugg, and commented on.
Thanks for all the hard work.
lethainMar 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
We've been working on something that I think will address this issue!
justatoolMar 1, 2011
It will actually be great to have "who dugg this" feature back. Sometimes I like to know my audience. It becomes a great way to follow people with same interest.
cdurukMar 1, 2011
It's back! And the great American visionary Justin Timberlake would say, it's sexy too.

You mean it is a great way to keep track on your circlejerk and make sure there are no slackers.
fxspec06Mar 1, 2011
YESSS!! WTG DIGG!
FP is awesome now! Finally seeing the news I want to see in 'My News'!
More people commenting on stories! Able to see all my comments in profile!
Load more is working! New GUI is slick and super easy on the eyes!
Keeeeep it up!! =)
ashleyashy2013Mar 1, 2011
you seem happy =)
beshirthappyMar 1, 2011
So happy to have "Who Dugg This?" back and curious to check out the My News - Trending. Kudos to you guys for working so hard to make Digg better!
l0nerMar 1, 2011
'My News' is a ghost town where my comments and diggs go to die.
They are a votes heard by no one.
give me an option in my settings to make 'top news' my landing page.
please. i miss digg.
lethainMar 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
Such an option exists! Go to http://digg.com/settings/preferences and then select "Top News" as the default view.
lethainMar 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
That said, I hope that My News trending will help populate that ghost town with Digging, commenting Diggers. It was definitely hard to get enough density of activity on stories in the Recent sort for My News, but Trending makes it a much richer experience.

"They are a votes heard by no one."
Well your name is l0ner.
couragewulfMar 1, 2011
More people need to digg/comment from upcoming and "my news" so this doesn't happen anymore. I think removing stories from "my news" after 48 or 72 hours would be fair though, since something submitted over the 24 hour mark will rarely see the front page.
l0nerMar 1, 2011
Thanks, lethain, i set it as default...
didn't mean to be so dramatic, but the site has been... quiet lately.
here is to a rally!
ihartdiggMar 1, 2011
Impressed with how clean the UI is. Great job guys, keep it up!
gamingforeverMar 1, 2011
I'm glad they are making this more and more like v3!!!!!!! Will digg bring back friends who dugg this?
superman101Mar 1, 2011
How about instead, your friends should rank higher on the Who dugg this page and module. I think that ends up being more compelling and doesn't take up visual space.
sirsidMar 1, 2011
I like the idea
mysteralMar 1, 2011
Digg is finally back
SergeantSpankMar 1, 2011
Love the work going in, keep it up!
bs0lMar 1, 2011
Is the Find People page down for anyone else?
cdurukMar 1, 2011
The link is http://digg.com/find-profiles
Seems to be working right now for me.
bs0lMar 1, 2011
Ah, someone should edit the blog post. It's a broken link that sends you to " http://digg.com/find-profile " instead of " http://digg.com/find-profiles "
cdurukMar 1, 2011
Yep thanks for pointing that out. Getting right on that!
cdurukMar 1, 2011
Alright, Will fixed it. Thanks again.
bs0lMar 1, 2011
Yep, thank you!
johndoMar 1, 2011
Good job guys! Can we have the ability to edit titles after we submit it? The url wouldn't have to change, just the title...
esornosoMar 1, 2011
Good job team!!
diggpopoMar 1, 2011
Not to be Buzz Killington here but how about less attention on new features, UI tweaks and more attention to the community. The #1 issue with digg right now is not the lack of features but its lack of community. On any given thread you will see more spam, obvious fake account and one or two word "comments" than you will actual comments, banter and discussions.
There is no digg without its community and this place is a ghost town.
My 2 cents.
javaroastMar 1, 2011
Thanks for being the Buzz Killington. You speak the truth. The fake accounts and the stream of endless 1 line comments that seem to be used as a double digg are a big annoyance. The fake accounts that make comment after comment and generally have links to spammy blog sites have got to go.
lethainMar 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
Thanks for the comment! We agree. We're adding features based to make it easier to engage in the Digg community. We added "Who Dugg This?" to make it easier to find similar Digger to engage with, and MyNews-Trending to make it easier to find the stories your friends are commenting on.
That said, features aren't everything. We've been reaching out and talking with users, we had the Digg Dialogg where we responded to user feedback, and we're still looking for more ways to engage with you guys! Do you have more ideas about how we can grow our community? We'd love to hear.
diggpopoMar 1, 2011
While I appreciate the effort I don't really see how any of these features will deter the fake accounts and the fake comments. Personally I don't follow anyone and I don't use the My News feature. Maybe I'm not using digg right but I simply log on a few times a day and check out the news on the front page because thats where the good stuff should. If I had to guess that is probably how most people still use the site. If you leave it up to the community to do all the work, the community is going to continue to look elsewhere where the extra effort isn't required. Just following the good diggers and ignoring the spammers seems a little lazy.
There may not be a technical answer to the problem. My suggestion would be to have someone read all the post and use their judgement. The problem accounts and comments are quite obvious.
superman101Mar 1, 2011
We actually blend in the best of Top News into your My News. I would really encourage you to give it a try. You don't have to follow anyone.
diggpopoMar 1, 2011
I will make you a deal. I will try out Top News if SOMEONE WILL ADDRESS THE FAKE ACCOUNT, FAKE COMMENTS, SPAM ISSUE.
I put it in all caps so it could be seen. I guess the problem was that it was too small in previous comments. My mistake.
Also dugg for listening without hearing.
talonhMar 1, 2011
Good god, no wonder there are so many spammers and fake acounts on digg now. Here's an example of 2 of my personal favorite fakes
http://digg.com/ParentingCoachLisa/comments
http://digg.com/pethanks/comments
Lame blog google trap in link... Check
Bunch of meaningless 1 line comments in rapid succession... Check
Claim to be from the US, but speak in broken language... Check
And there are others out there en masse. Some other charecteristics are a comment with a simple summary of the title of the story, or a repeated thanks for the post comments, and on and on.
None of this has anything to do with Top News/My News, other than the fact that I guarantee that Top News/My News will have the fakes too.
While you are at it, fix the problems that have been introduced with the broken post comment.
couragewulfMar 1, 2011
"Not to be Buzz Killington" and then you proceed to be a buzzkill without actually contributing any real ideas. "bring back the community" no f**king s**t? That's what they're trying to do with these features.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
javaroastMar 1, 2011
Bounce off and quit being an ass. diggpopo has contributed ideas as have others. The first is do something about the proliferance of fake accounts and the endless stream of one line meaningless comments.
digg seemingly accepts these obvious fakes as I've personally contacted digg support about some of them and nothing has been done.
Read more than the last line of a comment next time before you proceed to go into assh**e mode.
Closed AccountMar 1, 2011
The Who Dugg This is a big step in helping get rid of the fake comments. Those accounts are maed to Digg crappy spam from usually singular websites. Or several websites that are all part of hte same bigger company. (Think totalprosports and hteir crap. Or limelife.
While it would be better if Digg did this themselves, at least with the Who Dugg This, it is possible to out the obvious face spam accounts. For example, the next limelife crap that makes it to the front page, check out the Who Dugg This. Thre will probably be about 65 people who dugg it, and most of htem will have signed up all within a day or two of each other, and they will have done little else but digg limelife crap. And then when another limelife article makes the front page, check it again and you will notice that the same 65 names are on that list.

I miss these on Digg :(
I can't recall the last well-placed pedobear on the front page....
kesk2006Mar 1, 2011
Because Pedobear content rarely gets through now.
sarahleeMar 1, 2011
Why is there a limit to the number of comments you can rate? It is way too easy to hit that wall if an article has a lot of comments.
lethainMar 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
We added ratelimiting to try to prevent bots from running amuck. We haven't heard too much about this one being a problem, but we'll take a look now that you've mentioned it.
casspaMar 1, 2011
I sent in a message about this a while back to the 'contact us' form. I had this problem on a spam article that hit the front page, which you admins rightfully removed promptly. But in the meantime I was downvoting all of the 140 or so spam comments, and in that time my ability to up/down vote comments was suspended. Even though what I was doing (so I thought) was for the betterment of the site.
cdurukMar 1, 2011
If you see a really blatant spammer, it might be more time-efficient to try emailing us from http://about.digg.com/contact.
Of course it's not the perfect solution but thought I'd mention it.
sarahleeMar 1, 2011
I was going to digg your comment up, but I got the "Slow down there partner, you almost broke and axle!" message, so I can't.
Do bots really go around rating comments?
I generally just leave when that message pops up because it makes me so angry :)
cdurukMar 1, 2011
Thanks for your feedback, it helps us tweak the rate limiting. But yeah, there are actually bots that go around do whatever a user would do; digg stuff, submit, bury or digg comments or even write relatively legible comments sometimes. It's a hard problem and we try to do our best against it. Of course, there are sometimes false positives so feedback like yours help us tweak the knobs.
sabazouMar 1, 2011
We've adjusted the rate limiting and you should have more leeway when voting on comments now. Let me know if you find it continues to be an issue
sarahleeMar 2, 2011
Thanks. I did hit it once tonight in one post with a lot of conversation.
When you work all day and have only a few hours for checking stories and news, it is a bit frustrating. Often the best (and worst) info is in the comments.

NEW Digg? these changes pretty much brings back OLD stuff that they stupidly took away.
ObligedcartonMar 1, 2011

ABOUT time with the Who Dugg This. Took over 6 months to make a change that a lot of people were asking for that could have been brought back in 2 seconds.
I guess you had enough data to realize it was costing you money...and THAT is why you made the change...not because of what anyone was asking for.
And even this...10 per page? So you don't want to make it convenient to see them all.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
lethainMar 1, 2011StaffSubmitter
In addition to the module, there is also the "Who Dugg This?" tab right above the comments which shows 40 diggs at a time.

I was going to digg your comment up as a less cluttery way of saying thanks, but I got the "Slow down there partner, you almost broke and axle!" message. :)

davidtcMar 2, 2011
Like the new features, but I think the design flow of pages is bad, really bad.
Front page:
Connect with facebook. Let us turn this off and have it never be shown on the front page again. Put this in the users settings so they can connect or not at a later time. Isn't this the same thing as the "connection" tab in our user settings?
Top ____ lists. These are ok, but in a bad order. Why does a site that is supposed to be about news have the Top News section half way down the page and the last item shown? Top News should be the first thing seen on the right side of the page, not the last and not at the bottom of the page. After Top News it can remain the current order in my opinion. Top News, Hot News, Top Comments, Top Users.
Submission page:
What ever happened to the top comments on the submission being shown on the side? If you are going to show top comments from random submission on the front page, why not the top comments of the current submission on the submission page? Have the top 3 or so show up on the right side of the page only if the comments have more than a +5 rating. This list could work under the "who dugg this" list that is currently shown, cause the comments are already lower on the page.
I like the concentration of new features, but design and flow is also very important. Current design and flow just seems off at the moment.
