I agree, with most of this. However, they have seemed to neglect one of the biggest movements in personal finance; the ability to invest in crowdfunding. For the first time, ever, people now have the chance to invest in local entrepreneurs and startups for a chance to gain a potential, significant ROI. It's the future of investing. The future of saving. And the future of community participation.

The first item on the list is "study the past" ... this is apparently why a lot of people got into the housing market - because it had never seen a real price decrease. Before the bubble burst, some people reported believing their house values would increase 20% a year over the next several years. That's insane! I think people are better served sitting in - and passing - a good principles class in micro & macro economics.

Futurists? Those same cranks who predicted that we would have flying cars, colonies on the moon and food in the form of a pill by 2000? They don't know jack. You can't study something that doesn't exist yet.
