I prefer to give my business to companies that do the same. Bravo!
kamtsaJun 23, 2011
Do they discriminate able for disabled? Does not look ethical to me.

Way to go Walgreens. I'm 33 born with spina bifida and let me tell you finding work is not easy with a disability. It's even harder now that we have to compete with able bodied people that have lost work.
People born with disabilities have a 60% unemployment rate, and that was before the great recession, I'm sure it's higher now.
Thank you Walgreens!

Walgreens > Walmart.

Half the cashiers at my Walmart are disabled too.
kamtsaJun 23, 2011
Becoming disabled on the job does not count.

Obama administration > Wallgreens

Totally true. I used to work with a medical center that helped with work supports for the disabled. Walgreens was ALWAYS the best place to go to get someone hired. They never failed to hire the differently-abled and happily trained and worked with them.
Great company, always happy to shop there knowing they support people like this.

oh geez..it is DISabled. Enough with the flowery speech. It isn't that they do things differently than normal skilled people. it is that they can't do it as well because of a handicap..and yes, they are handicpped, not handicapable.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
dirtyfriesJun 23, 2011
Not the case at all. Clearly, they do things differently because they accomplish the same tasks despite lacking ability in certain methods.
And in some cases, the "handicap" is beneficial, such as a young man I worked with who had Asperger's. He was excellent with numbers and often did accounting for Walgreens. Another gentlemen was autistic, but it allowed him to focus on very mundane, repetitive tasks all day that you or I would likely sour of quickly.
Flowery speech or no, it's reflective of some accuracy. Show a little heart.

For a 2 day old Troll you sure are a DICK!

That's pretty awesome! The biggest thing companies need to remember that these employees are much more loyal, much more grateful, more more dedicated - despite the lower pay and more monotonous (to them, more predictable) work. But if they ever got laid off, it will also affect them at a much deeper level. They would take it much more personally and not be as able to bounce up and find another another job.

"Special needs" Oh how I hate that term...
shingoexJun 23, 2011
As far as I'm concerned, these people don't have disabilities, and I'm happy Walgreens sees them the same way.
mrteflonJun 23, 2011
Good for you Walgreens!
adamclifJun 23, 2011
Whoa, according to the title I would assume Walgreens hires the staff for NBC Nightly News.
jegchaxiw1373Jun 23, 2011
That was pretty dumb.
Closed AccountJun 23, 2011
It WAS a very poorly worded title though.
jegchaxiw1373Jun 23, 2011
Yeah I guess there are a few people that might get tripped up by the title. I was not one of them though.
kamtsaJun 23, 2011
NBC? You are confusing disabled with retards. It's not the same, you know.

YES THAT S GREAT... I GET ALL MY MED'S FROM THEM..
meiravJun 23, 2011
Walgreens is hiring on NBC Nightly News?
gkiltzJun 23, 2011
Do they work for Walgreens directly, or is it like WalMart, where the ACTUAL employer is that county's social services agency?
jegchaxiw1373Jun 23, 2011
I would like to know that also. I went to them for help for a job and they take half your pay...
law1essJun 23, 2011
looks like MIB hq
smurf42Jun 23, 2011
f**king awesome. Keep it up.
barackalypseJun 23, 2011
I'd expect a new state of the art distribution center to be the most efficient in the company, I doubt it has anything to do with hiring disabled workers. Still though, good on Walgreens for giving them a chance.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
pinskiaJun 23, 2011
They might hire them but from what I Know from employee walgreens stores, they don't give that much benefits to their employees.
jegchaxiw1373Jun 23, 2011
You can't see good in anything can you?
pinskiaJun 23, 2011
Well considering my wife was fired by Walgreens for taking too many sick days even though she got told the managers the first day she worked there she was taking medicine that made her sicker.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
