Of course this means every case has to work it's way though the courts. I guess the lawyers win!
arpadJun 21, 2011
Then why did the lawyers push so hard for class action status? A class action mixes the phonies in with the people may have a real beef and *then* only the lawyers win.
gailcavJun 21, 2011
Right! The women need to come to grips with the fact that they need more education. The times have changed. You make more money by upgrading your skills. They are lucky they still have jobs.
Closed AccountJun 21, 2011
Everyone should rejoice when the court makes these types of rulings. These woman's individual case's are weak at best. It was a travesty that they sought class action status.
NetworkMrktingMeJun 22, 2011
do you work at WallyWorld????? it was UU!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol!
yony1Jun 21, 2011
why not just promote the best qualified people?
When more men are promoted, then people sue, when more women are promoted no one sues
When men do better on a test, people say the test is bias
When women do better on a test, no one says the test is bias
Why the double standard
davidtcJun 21, 2011
It's black vs white
....literally.
micahhurdJun 21, 2011
True point.
Americans have been taught over the last half century that they can get what they want without working for it just by pulling the minority / discriminatory card. (This is not to say that some groups haven't been truly discriminated against. But now people are just taking advantage of the system).
gailcavJun 21, 2011
This is not the time to enact class action suits. We are trying to recover from an economic recession and Walmart is the largest employer.
chadster1000Jun 21, 2011
They also consistently lobby against funding for education, and put people out of business.
Unregistered_CowardJun 21, 2011
WalMart bashing was so last decade.
mbraynardJun 21, 2011
And yet many of the women who were party to the class action suit aren't so bothered that they continue to work at WM to this day (as quoted in the linked article).
This wasn't a ruling on the merits of each complaint, but on the merits of the suit having class action status.
It was disappointing to see that shrew Ginsburg use this case to try to legislate rather than to enforce the laws re: class action lawsuits.
eraptorJun 21, 2011
Have you forgotten the slew of judicial activism by conservative justices? Their judgment in "Citizens United" ALONE ignored longstanding legal precedent and campaign finance restrictions by corporations and it risks burying our Democracy under a tidal wave of corporate campaign meddling.
By the way, Ginsburg CAN'T legislate from the bench because her conservative counterparts hold the majority opinion and they're busy engaging in their own partisan activism.
kyravonJun 22, 2011
In this economy, people may feel that they can't afford to quit even a terrible discriminatory job because they won't find another one.
And if they win this suit maybe their Walmart jobs would become worth it to them to stay at, so they don't want to quit.
gailcavJun 24, 2011
So why sue them?
KapsiotJun 21, 2011
Now get back in the kitchen you dizzy bimbos and make me a sandwich.
paultripJun 21, 2011
Lawyers sucking lawyers to get more money....and the head lawyers pass out the treats...Supreme Court....should be supercream court. Here's to the republican way of life....dontcha just love it!
NetworkMrktingMeJun 22, 2011
Shame! I heard about Wal-Mart being such a company many years ago...obviously there's some truth to it...1.5Mill. Women? Come to think of it, a WOMAN was complaining. Of course they won, probably own the judge too! LBVS!!!!
kyravonJun 22, 2011
They havne't technically won yet, they just made it harder by ruling that i can't proceed as a class-action lawsuit.
Which makes it harder for each women filing an individual lawsuit to prove that it's part of an over all pattern of discritmination against a whole class of individuals.
gkiltzJun 21, 2011
Some of these suits can still be filed state by state, case by case.
knquandelJun 21, 2011
WTWS
yony1Jun 21, 2011
this is why elections are important, liberal presidents appoint liberal people to the supreme court. Look at how the liberal voted on this and look at how the conservatives voted
I think other appointing people to the court republicans and democrats are the same, they both do what they lobbyist wantComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
gailcavJun 24, 2011
Interesting point.
hermiodJun 21, 2011
Buried for using a biased source. A writer who writes exclusively about women's issues is hardly likely to report this fairly.
Unregistered_CowardJun 21, 2011
What a f**king moronic comment
