I want to see an infographic about Crisco, because I eat it by the bucket and I don't think it's good for me.

Random question...but how did Cisco acquire Protego for 65 million in 1994 and then again in 2004 for the same amount? And in both cases it becomes Cisco's "self-defending network"?

The guy who sang the "Thong Song"? Remember him?

White people spell it differently.

according to this infographic, Cisco stock should continue falling for the next 2 years and rise again. So every 4-6 years, Cisco stock goes up and down. Only if I have money to invest.

CISCLOWS!

It's a problem because infinite growth is impossible.
However, due to ridiculous tax laws, companies don't want to pay out dividends as they are taxed higher. So instead of being a boring old dividend paying company, they try and keep growing.
Cisco does computer networks. Great... but once a country is wired, there's no more room to grow. Regular upgrades and what not keep your profit, but they don't grow the business.
So Cisco either finds countries without network infrastructure... which is a possible growth strategy... but most of that is in the developing world where costs are prime and they face stiff competition from Huawei and others.
Or they branch onto new businesses like flip cameras, data centers... where other companies do the same thing (HP, IBM)... and they all try this pointless growth strategy.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Get rid of the corporate tax.
Increase taxes on the rich.
And leave it be. It is causing far more harm than good.
Heck, just remember, even pensioners need boring dividends.

Flip sure turned out to be a disaster for them. They completely shut down the brand last month.
pcptornadoMay 12, 2011
Cisco has decommissioned hardwares/brands or whatever for years. When you navigate through Cisco's site you find tons of references to products that no longer exist for whatever reasons.
I think this graph dramatize greatly the situation, Cisco is a giant and it'll take the economy to TANK hard to bring them down.
A huge part of the core and access nodes of the Internet is made of Cisco equipments. And huge companies are totally depends on the wide array of features and backward compatibility their products offer.

I'm still pissed at Cisco for the way they screwed up Linksys. It once was automatic, Need a router? Buy a Linksys. Then Cisco took over and ran Linksys into the ground.
lostngoneMay 12, 2011
God I know, Linksys was known for rock solid reliability until Cisco bought them!
Edit:
Are you high?
socalchrisMay 12, 2011
Linksys used to provide reasonably good quality products for home users at a reasonable price. Now their products are crap quality at a premium price. That's been the case since they started slapping on the "By Cisco" to everything with a Linksys badge on it.

Crisco, cisco, sysco or sisqo?
member57May 11, 2011
Hopefully down until gone... The IT world would be better off, they have stifled competition for years, serves them right.

your infograph is incorrect
thanks.

Does anyone here know who Cisco really is?
Do you know when you buy one of their routers for thousands of dollars that you don't really own the software that's on it?
Did you know that if you sell one to someone else that the license does not transfer an the new owner needs to buy the software?
Did you know that when they screw up their software (like they have many times) that you have to pay them to get the fix?
Did you know that if you don't pay them for the fix, which is an upgrade, that the fact that so many people use it makes you a huge target for hacking?
You know that they had an exploit for a very long time that left routers open and they sat on their collective hands and said it wasn't that bad and then when someone proved that it was they sued them for exposing the vulnerability?
Yeah, I didn't think so.
CISCO SUCKS!
timedalkatMay 12, 2011
Couldn't they have squeezed something more out of the Flipcam, rather than just discontinuing it? It was a great product. Maybe they need a new management team.

Reminds me of the fall of Nortel. Although not as severe obviously.
