Auto industry paying attention? Fat people shouldnt be further justified for their self imposed issues. They need to lose weight.
Djb6Feb 14, 2011
shut up fatty.
torisutanFeb 14, 2011
Funnily enough, I'm 6 foot 2 inches tall, and actually not obese, but I noticed while shopping for cars that Japanese cars are actually much roomier than American cars. The Fords, Dodges, Chryslers, and even the freakin Hummers I sat in were too short for me and the seats had uncomfortable sides on the bottom cushion that would have been REALLY annoying for a person with a butt as big as most Americans'. Hondas and Toyotas were actually the right size for me, which was funny because asians are usually shorter than europeans (which we white folk are), but their cars were bigger than the ones designed by white people FOR white people.
ibdilbertFeb 14, 2011
I'm only 6 foot, and I'm finding the exact opposite. Regular size hummers have plenty of room for me, albeit the little hummers have about as much room as the Honda CRVs. My issue isn't the leg room, its the bottom of seat to roof space, my hair always seems to rub the ceilings. But I will agree with you on poor comfort features of most american profit car companies.

"Japanese cars are actually much roomier than American cars"
Bull-f**king-s**t. Not even close to true.
pw378Feb 14, 2011
You lost me at "bull-f**king".

I honestly think that tall people and short people aren't really considered by the car companies. More a matter of how things happen to work out than actual accomodation, since most cars up to a point were built for the average 5'10 male.. making short people and very tall people at the fringes.
For me, I think the Japanese automakers just got the message in the 1970s that they can spend a few bucks on longer seat rails for the front passengers, even at the expense of carrying people in the back at all. I personally drive a Prius and have no difficulty with comfort .. though granted that is with the seat all the way back, slightly reclined and steering wheel all the way up.
On other cars .. most GMs I've driven my head brushes the ceiling if it doesn't have height adjustments and VW Beatles listed in the article were downright dangerous to drive (knees folded up under dash and interfering with the wheel). .. and I'm only 6'4
cawpinFeb 14, 2011
Well most manufacturers, GM specifically, has people on every design team near the extremes of normal size for people. I remember reading a story about one of their new vehicles several years ago where they had a 5'1" woman and a 6'5" guy. Both could fit and drive the car comfortably, so they do keep it in mind.
banskiFeb 14, 2011
just get some bacon in there, the fatties will soon find a way to get in
agmlauncherFeb 14, 2011
Make sure you use the grease on the door frame first.
henchman626Feb 14, 2011
I am tired of the subject of obesity. Auto manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves for even considering making cars to accommodate grossly overweight people. Yes, I understand more headroom makes sense for tall people, but fat people need to lose weight. You should fit your car, the car shouldn't have to fit you.
troy64Feb 14, 2011
I don't think car manufacturers should be forced to make cars for obese people, but if they can make money from selling cars to obese people, why not build them.
chanoongFeb 14, 2011
I don't think we should be encouraging fat people. They can walk to work.
homerjr420Feb 14, 2011
"musician Popa Chubby"
Im pretty sure hes not refering to his weight
agmlauncherFeb 14, 2011
Or fat people could
(A) Raise their caloric expenditure to exceed their caloric intake
(B) Decrease their caloric intake below their expenditure
(C) Both
Fat loss is not a difficult thing. It's very, very simple actually.
FPSmotoFeb 14, 2011
Yeah it wasn't till I was about 23 that I found out what a calorie was. Once I was able to track all the technical data behind what I was eating, I was able to control how many calories I ate that day. I could also subtract calories for exercises I do.
Since then, I've lost 80 pounds and my back rarely ever hurts anymore, same with my feet. I am a happier person because I am skinnier.
I think very few people actually WANT to be fat. For some, they're just oblivious to what they eat. Others it can be an addiction, or a cause of depression. Stress is also a big factor in why we weigh so much.
Seriously though. I wasn't a ladies man in high school by any means. I was too insecure about my weight and rarely asked anyone out. It wasn't that I ever got rejected(ok maybe a couple times), but it was mostly because I gave up before I ever gave myself a shot. I accepted failure because that's what I thought I was.
Being fat isn't a laughing matter. It's expensive as f**k, meaning I was spending over $300 on fast food alone, not counting groceries, per month. Anytime I go to the movies, I have to sit separate from my friends by 1 seat. Cant sit in booths at restaurants. I mean it's ridiculous how much I limit myself because of my weight.
And it's a struggle. I mean, I don't have any delusions about losing all these pounds. I didn't gain all this overnight. I don't expect to lose 10 pounds every week lol.
The only diet ANYONE should follow is eating in moderation and exercising regularly.
chrisvazquez1Feb 14, 2011
It is also a very expensive, time-consuming, and arduous task. Back in high school I used to do water polo zero period, band (running a mile and several other exercises daily), and repeat after school, every day until six. I was never what you would call skinny. Of course I was also mid to high muscle index, but I could never completely lose my fat. As I grow up I enjoy seeing judgmental pricks see what its like to have a low metabolism. You're oversimplifying weight-loss.
agmlauncherFeb 14, 2011
"It is also a very expensive"
No, it's not. You eat less food. It's cheaper. My gym membership is $10/month, and if all I needed was cardio it would be free since I could run outside.
"time-consuming, and arduous task"
Both are a matter of effort. If you think exercise is an arduous task, then that's your first problem and probably explains why you had trouble knocking off the fat in high school.
The amount of exercise you describe is actually LOW to mid intensity, even lower depending on how much effort you put into it. Were you RUNNING the mile, or were you jogging? Running the mile = 7 minutes or less. Anything above that is jogging.
The difference between running the mile and jogging it is level of intensity, and level of intensity is what matters to fat loss. In ROTC, my best time was a 21 minute 3 mile run, so I was averaging 7 minutes/mile with my first mile being 6, and my last mile being 8. If I knew I only had to run a mile, I would have been able to knock my time down to about 5:30. The difference between a 5:30 minute mile and an 8 or 9 minute mile is astonishing in terms of fat burning.
So what was probably happening is you were falling into the same pit that most people do: Exercising, over-estimating how much it's helping, and then thinking it's ok to eat more. Your diet in highschool was simply too high for the level of activity you were engaging in.
chrisvazquez1Feb 14, 2011
Hmmm my best mile was about 6:45. I ate rice and chicken (with some teriyaki sauce) everyday for a month, did weight lifting in zero period, pool cardio exercises, and multiple field show runs (band field shows are extremely arduous due to the fact that you have to march in step, blow into an instrument, and have very good concentration paying attention to the conductor and your surroundings) and I still had body fat. I probably ate less because I was in school from 5:45 A.M. to a little over 5:00 P.M. I worked my ass off contrary to popular belief even with two semi-debilitating disabilities (asthma and flat feet).
All I know is that the army would never take me because of my bmi, asthma, and flat feet. I worked extremely hard and although I never did the measurements I do realize that seeing my peers lose much more weight than me doing half the exercise than me really pissed me off.
agmlauncherFeb 14, 2011
"I do realize that seeing my peers lose much more weight than me doing half the exercise than me really pissed me off."
Yep, that's what happens. I have the same problem seeing people gain pound after pound of muscle when I'm struggling to put on 10 extra pounds of it after 2 years of intense and focused gym training and proper eating.
Some people definitely have better genetics then others, there's no denying that. But, the mechanics are still the same, and are easy to understand/comprehend.
Science backs up all of my claims. 90% of the reason why someone is fat is because their lifestyle.
chrisvazquez1Feb 14, 2011
Really? I build muscle extremely easy. Most people who have a low metabolism do. The problem with building muscle is that it makes your body fat more noticeable while raising your metabolism. Damn I need to go back to the gym...Wouldn't it be much nicer if we didn't have to work this hard just to be healthy?
agmlauncherFeb 14, 2011
Agreed. But that's what happens when poorly planned government subsidies makes fruit more expensive than the soda and candy.
chrisvazquez1Feb 15, 2011
But hey we overproduce corn by the boatload and the seed corporations are happy! And whomever says organic and gmf food taste the same obviously hasn't tried fruit straight from the branch or a freshly killed chicken. Commodities are destroying our health. I do love that Yoshinoya takes food stamps though! A healthy chicken and rice dinner for less than $5.
This makes me wonder if we've created hormones that speed up the human metabolism to something more befitting of our modern diet or if the weight loss companies have lobbied the FDA to make those medicines illegal.
Maybe I should take off my tinhat... I need to spend another year in Mexico and lose all my body fat there...Much less fattening foods and my body metabolizes the natural sugar in Mexican Coke much easier.

Why not don't buy asian car?

Why?
texashikerFeb 14, 2011
Help those fat people get skinny - take the floorboards out and make them use peddle power to get to the grocery store. Kinda like the flintstones did.

Good thing that car is durable.. Or else..

It looks like she's smuggling something under her dress, a slim microwave? Or once you get that big, does your fat become rectangular?
