I will cut to the chase on how *$'s stayed successfull...
They violated most of the principles they drilled into their employee's heads about their business. This eventually lead to the cheapening of their products, especially when they replaced their manual espresso machines with the automatic espresso machines. Or when they replaced their "word of mouth advertising" with sponsoring MSNBC's morning show.
Honestly if there is any corporation that is the poster child for lowering the bar of quality it is Starbucks.
